Deep in the heart of Jakarta's slums lies an impenetrable safe house for the world's most dangerous killers and gangsters. Until now, the run-down apartment block has been considered untouchable to even the bravest of police. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, the building's lights are cut and all the exits blocked. jaka fought very well. if you compare this to last mad dog fight against rama and his brother, jaka really rocks.

The choreographer is the same short guy u see in this clip(mad dog) and Iko Uwais who is the protagonist of the film. Interestingly their fighting style is a martial marts called silat. You should check out the 2nd film, insane stuff man.

The second movie high point for me was the Iko vs Cecep, the one with the unique knife (kerambit).

@ when I watched the raid 1 and 2 many times waiting for 3 to happen, that one came along many of the same people, choreographers, etc. it’s damn good.

Plus when you're that much bigger than them you can eat most of their shots up close anyway bc they don't have the distance necessary to get nearly as much force. Once it shows mad dog being able to beat jaka when Jake has a hold of him that's where it kinda falls off for me

That was Mad Dog's advantage. The smaller the room, the more easier he can deliver hard-hitting blows at close-quarters

Maddog is an absolute king tier villain, just this monologue puts him up there. Shows that you don’t exactly NEED a villain to be as deep as a trench.

Better than Hollywood movies
The raid's fighting scenes are many times way better than the hollywood movies's
What I loved the stand off right here "0:13" is that even though Jaka had a knife, he is still out beaten with the "distance" between him and mad dog with just the knife aswell to get abit of extra reach with the weapon. While even I personally will not like the idea of dropping my weapon down knife or gun, this is a perfect shot right here that sometimes you gotta know when you are out match or beaten. Here unfortunately as much as I will love Jaka to just hold out that knife going all in with that weapon, it will just be pointless due to the distance he is at with Mad dog holding a gun. As someone who is also into a sport call HEMA distance plays ALOT in combat, espically with sharpen weapons of some kind when guns are out of the equation.
The tension and intensity of the film score, specifically this scene, is perfect.
The choreography is incredible but honestly with that much size difference once jaka has a hold of mad dog his strikes are not going to hurt nearly as much especially wearing a vest. The opening was PERFECT bc it was a direct thrust kick to the gut immediately followed by a leg kick followed by a head kick and gave the fight an air of mad dog is just too fast and technical and smart enough to stay back and pick his shots.
It also depends on how small he is but his strength is very strong
Mad Dog's strikes are around 90% NOT on the vest, but instead on the head or lower body. Jaka is taller but his build is more lean, meanwhile Mad Dog is more robust despite being shorter.
Raid has one of the best action choreographys I've ever seen.

An honorful, brave fight of real men / warriors. Sounds strange - but there was some respect, too.
This honestly says so much about Mad Dog's character, even if Jaka had the knife pulled, Mad Dog had him dead to rights with the gun, could have pulled the trigger and put it right between his eys before Jaka could even flinch with that knife, but he wanted the hand to hand combat, he wanted the fight, even says he never liked using guns, takes the "rush" away, he really is a.....Mad Dog, wow. Great movie/fighting scene.

I remember the first time I watched this film. I was truly expecting this skinny ass short guy to get put on his ass instantly. I get his character was being built up for a battle but I never would of anticipated he’d be one of the arguably toughest, insanely skilled OP ruthless and relentless boss battles in movie history. First time watching this. It was INSANE. Just couldn't believe it. Jaka is still a badass & a good cop. Mad dog was fast. Jaka using grips & locks most of the time.

From my understanding, the smaller guy is an actual fight choreographer.
I forgot the name of the movie, but he was in one in which he didn’t want to fight, but it’s the only thing he knows how to do.
The knife vs gun scene almost ruin the serious mood, but the fistfight scene were very clean and well choreographed 👏

I guess Jaka loose because of heavy bulletproof vest, that fast exhausted him during fight by weight.
Fighting techniques. Jaka tried to knock him out for three times. He used some jiu jitsu and judo grappling techniques. If he used krav maga then the story could be different. Mad dag used muay thai and few other south east asian raw,lethal and illegal fighting techniques. Before the fight starts. Mad dog realized that jaka will not kill him by beating. That's why he chose the path.its a tactical decision by mad dog. As Sun Tzu said. "A war is own in two steps. First at mind then in battlefield. If a person wins the first step. That person will easily win the battleground by taking over its control."

Mad dog already knows that both Andi and Rama are police. Mad dog, former special forces wants to beat the SWAT.
Chronology : Mad dog was triggered when Jaka pointed a SWAT knife at him, mad dog's adrenaline getting up , he wants to show off that he was better than SWAT.

a that much bigger dude if fight was more realistic would have something called,``unfair factor`` :his strikes that he lands would instantly stop the dog from whatever he was doing,but that would not go the other way around (the dog`s strikes would not interupt jaka`s combos or other moves when he would eat a strike mid action),and the bigger guy after eating full combo of strikes would catch up on dealt dmg by just landing single clean shot...
After seeing enough mma these movies no longer entertain me as i see all the flaws lol. You don't escape rear naked choke holds. Elboing the back of a guy shooting for a takedown won't do shit.
Really, if we followed the true phisic and logic of real human fight in movies, all choreographs will turn ugly and short.
