  • Through photosynthesis, plants take in carbon dioxide from the air and split it and use it (and water) to make carbohydrates. So surely plants can help us reduce carbon dioxide in the air? Possibly... But equally, the carbon in plants is then cycled back into the air in the carbon cycle (plants eat them...)
Before we started burning fossil fuels, the carbon from dead organisms was locked up underground. Pumping carbon dioxide back into these old gas wells could be an option.
Adding iron to seawater is another option so that more algae can grow in the oceans, locking up carbon as it grows. Some of this carbon is cycled back into the carbon cycle, but lots of it will be deposited at the bottom of the ocean as the algae dies. The problem with this is whether it can be carried out on a global scale.
Other problems we need to solve are how to capture the carbon before it enters back into the air; will we have to put bags over our car exhaust pipes? and over factory chimneys?!

when i grow up ill start a campaign which is planting trees in neighborhoods in southern CA which will probably take 2 or 3 years.

Honey Subs ya but the water insecurities and the pesticide use is still a big issue. If there’s no water all the plants will die and the carbon will go back into the air. The pesticides are used for just one growing season but take 100s of years to break down and we don’t even know the effects of these toxic byproducts. We’re sorta fucked but good on you for positivity.

In addition to these ideas, id like to remind you of one that was suggestet by Justus Liebig 180 years ago:
He said, that we would flush away all the elements of live (N, P, K) if we used water toilets. This would make our soils unfertile like the romans and greeks experienced it allready hundreds of yerars before due to there SPA-Culture.
Insead we should use compost-toilets to form ferile humus out of our excrements and recyle the elements of live forever. However, his old idea would not only safe the elemtens of live. It would also safe a lot of fresh water and also would save our surface waters from being polluted by huge amouts of sewage.
AND: As the main element in humus is CARBON, we could easily bring a lotof carbon from 8 billion people under the earth, were it woud feed the so called edaphon, the tiny animals, moulds and bacertia in the soil, that keep our soils fertile and moist. By the way: Keeping our soils moister, would also be a good to prevent seelevels to raise.

Adjust my point of view if I am incorrect: some retail stores, as far as I know, sell lumber or wood through out the year. There are companies that make wooden crates and pallets for wholesale distributors of all kinds. That's all year around as well.
Tree and plants won't grow back at the same rate that they are removed for economic purposes (and I partially depend on that habit).
It seems almost impossible to reduce CO2...planes, cars, trucks, and factories emit them while tree and plants are still being removed. Isn't that combination the main concern?

gmos bro, we can make trees grow faster if we want and make them absorb more co2 too. Its all in the science. we sent a man to the moon because we were pressured too, we'll stop climate change when we are pressured too as well. Hopefully our idiot president understands this and we can all agree that its happening

Can reducing the amount of car driving reduce the emissions? But this would help reduce the amount of C02 in the atmosphere. What plants would be most helpful in removing this excess of carbon in our atmosphere? #Livetree #Fairweb #reducecarbon

We must not remove carbon dioxide from the air because it's already 4x lower than required for optimum Crop Harvest. Perhaps you would rather starve?
