Snow Day In The Lifted Forester - First Run On The Kumho Road Venture AT51

  • I was able to get the Forester out in the snow with the Kumho Road Ventures on it.
My initial impression was very positive. They retained their grip even when the temps were below freezing and were surprisingly good at ejecting snow from the tread.
Weather conditions: The snow was very heavy and had previously frozen over. This made it hard to power through in some areas, but these tires still grabbed aggressively.
While this tire is less "heavy duty" than some of the AT options out there, I really like them on the Forester. They are light enough to still be functional without weighing down the drivetrain too much. They've been compared to the Yoko Geolandars, but I like how they're a little more aggressive and they're much cheaper.
The Road Venture also meets the standards for the 3 Peak Mountain Snowflake designation that many local authorities require on mountain passes.
Test vehicle: 2006 Subaru Forester X - lifted 2.5 inches

That pretty much echo's my thoughts on them as well. I have owned 3 sets. 1st was the previous generation AT on a RWD 2007 Ram 1500. Loved them! When I got my new 2014 Jeep Patriot FWD I put a set of 235/70R16's on it and I have a vid going through 3" deep pure sleet covered by another 3" of snow coming back home from work. Flawless. And that onw was only front wheel drive with a crappy CVT! When I got my 2nd Patriot it was a High Altitude model with a 6 speed true automatic and 4X4 (locking center diff) and before I had 1k miles on it I had a set of 235/65R17 Kumho At's under it. Just all out genuinely darn good tires for the money IMO.

That's awesome!! For an affordable AT that still drives nice on pavement, they honestly performed MINT. I love them. They're on another car right now and still kickin!

When I bought my 2019 frontier pro-4x, the dealership put a brand new set of these roadventures on the truck (the Hankook dynapro's on it were worn out, but I would've changed those tires anyway). I had never heard of the kumho brand before and I was curious to see how they would do and almost 2 years later I'm seriously impressed! I don't do any super hard-core off roading but I do enjoy being able to get out there and being confident in my tires (vehicle as a whole) is paramount. For the price point I'm considering getting them when I size up to 33s after I get the lift installed in my truck this spring

Absolutely!! They kick butt. They've got the at52 out now as well which I think looks even a bit more aggressive! I've still got these tires on a different car to this day.

Just got these for my 2010 Ford Explorer a few weeks ago. Have been impressed with the on-road performance in the rain and some slush. Haven’t taken them off-road yet but am excited to, especially after seeing this video.

@@clappedoutsubieshoopties2216 yes. Went up to snoqualmie pass in Washington to go snowboarding for a few days. It snowed 21 inches on my first day up there. Plenty of cars around me were getting stuck but the tires worked like a charm and I tanked through the snow. On the last day when I was about to leave there was snow up to my lower grille on my car. Thought I was potentially going to have to dig myself out but I popped it in 4 wheel low and the explorer just chugged along through the snow with no problem.

Right? I've been really impressed with them. The ONLY thing I've found so far is that they skate a lot on wet gravel. But aside from that, they've exceeded my expectations pretty heavily.

As long as they plow your freeways, these might be a good option! I just wouldn't recommend them for commuting at high speeds on the ice or hard pack snow.

Hey man running some maxxis bravo A/T 771, I’m in Canada Edmonton ab and they have been okay, but they don’t have the snow flake and I paid more than I would Kuhmos./. Celsius here lol /40 last year. How do these do on ice...

    • @clappedoutsubieshoopties2216
      @clappedoutsubieshoopties2216  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I haven't run them on ice. But my best advice would be to get a dedicated snow tire if you might encounter ice. The 3 peak snow flake AT's can't compare with a true snow tire on ice in my opinion.

8 months in still rate them? I'm looking at some 315/75/16s as a daily my trip car.

Thank you!! That's one of the best comments I've ever gotten🙏🙏 I actually switched to a mud terrain tire for some of the crazier trips that I've done. But those tires are actually STILL on an outback and ripping just fine. Still low road noise even as the tread continues to wear. I beat the dog piss out of them before I swapped them.

@@clappedoutsubieshoopties2216 thanks for getting back bro. I have a f150 dont do much off roading. Just the the odd fishing hole or some back woods camping. But after seeing you totally mash these tires I'm a believer. They will definitely be fine for my f150. And the price is killer. Alot cheaper than the higher end all terrain tires. Your video's are awesome you make me laugh when I watch them. Keep them coming. Cheers a CANADIAN FAN.......
