The first season was shot during the pandemic, when the hotel they used wasn’t doing any business. The scenes of this opening are truly amazing too, not just the music, and it brings many of the topics of the show. At first glance, it's just a beautiful paperwall with tropical motifs. But, if you look closer, you start to see that everything is not that refreshing and laidback: the fruit and the flowers start to get rotten, the chameleon changes its color, ths fish gets stuck into the jellyfish tentacles, snakes appear among the leaves, the catterpillars start hijacking the the plants, the once ruling leopard now lies unconscious of what goes around and stormy clouds appear in the horizon. In conclusion, it's just a metaphor about how we people interact with money, wealth and social inequality: relationships go sour, people show their true facade, we get tangled into unfulfilling promisses, the less favoured prey in the other ones... And, above everything, the white lotus, the buddist symbol of enlightenment, remebering us a simple leason: do not get lost in such petty things.
Interesting thoughts about the wallpaper. When I first saw it, I thought the style was similar to chinoiserie-this western interpretation of now "Hawaiian" culture.
There's something eerie and foreboding about this score. Also loved the way it's deftly incorporated in the show, at the right moment in the right dose for maximum dramatic effect.

not really sure your statement is fact more of an opinion. I recently went to Honolulu and stayed at Disneys aluani with my spouse and our 3 children for 10 days. we went with patience and kindness to everyone including the staff. we enjoyed our stay with no issues. I have learned that with traveling with or without kids requires a lot of patience and knowing not everything is going to go my way. dont over hyping a vacation will cause chaos.

You can definitely feel the Utopia vibes. This is second show with De Veer music I watched and didn’t skip any intro in every single episode. Another one is Succession - also amazing opening theme you can't skip.
I like when images in the intro foreshadow the plot. The monkey with the flower for Jennifer Coolidge, the snake for Sydney, and BEST of all the two nuts for Steve Zahn
I usually always "skip" opening credits when binging shows but this was the only show I actually let play through at the beginning of the show just so I could hear this captivating music. I love it. It's so different!
Cristobal Tapia De Veer is a musical genius! I'm obsessed with his score for this show. And I can't help but thinking he would have been the perfect fit for Denis Villeneuve's DUNE.
Woooow just thinking about what he would have done for Dune gave me goosebumps! His Utopia work was exceptional, but not many people are aware of the beautiful work he also did for The Crimson Petal and the White
This is balanced in a way that represents the show so well, the juxtaposition of the tropical beat and chorus with a feeling that is unsettling and uneasy. It uses the dies irae to invoke a feeling that death is looming. Just a beautiful and artistic show and a perfectly aligned beautiful and artistic theme
I am in love with this music! I loved the juxtaposition of the images. I think the animals / flowers / fruits were directly associated with how the characters the actors play in the show were. That was VERY intelligent!
I was addicted to the opening credits music, too, combined with the visuals and the pace that they intermingled. It's so tropical and mysterious and I love the way the camera moves in, in line with the musical beats and then focuses on wallpaper details and then the wallpaper bleeds and spreads at just the right moment. Love it!!
It's insane how good the OST is but how it even gets better in combination with the visuals. Such a great job setting the mood for the following episode!

From the intro music itself it felt like it was gonna be a horror / suspense show just like LOST but then I thought of the LOTUS eaters from the illiad which kept Odyseuss and his men in a state of forgetfulness, which in hindsight the people who checked into the hotel actually wanted to forget their problems and issues and put up a farce just for the sake and pursuit of their perfect "vacation".. Then the show dashed in a little bit of comedy just to keep you on your toes plus add the mesmerizing and hypnotic visuals of the introduction, I was hooked! lol!
this kind of art style is toile de jouy. a kind of french wallpaper design that was most popular during the colonial period which was known for depicting idealised scenes of what life should look like - I just really liked this choice I think it set the tone for the whole show well

Probably unpopular opinion but the season 1 theme is miles better than the second. The minor key and the haunting vocalisations just convey the eerieness and air of mystery of the show far more effectively
American tv series usually have opening intro less than 40 seconds, they (HBO) really bring back this long opening intro trend. It reminds me of the Baywatch
