  • Chatham Dockyard Branch near Gillingham in the 1990s verses 2019.
I paid a return visit to Gillingham and the Chatham Dockyard Branch to compare images I took in the area in the early 1990s to how the area looks now.
In the early 1990s the Chatham Dockyard Branch was in regular use by trains moving contaminated spoil from the dockyard to the landfill site at Stewartby. These trains were hauled by Class 33 Crompton and Class 56 locomotives.

If the developers had thought a bit more about the branch line, they could have easily incorporated it as a tram line. Serving the housing estate on St Mary's island, the student accommodation, the supermarket etc. But alas.. it's just a dumping ground now. Such a waste.

The track is called "A Long Way" by Whistle music. I purchased it under a different name as a royalty free track some years ago.
