You can disable armor, heart-tanks and sub-tanks in the menu. To fight Serenade with no upgrades you have to keep the sub-tanks, for a no upgrade run just don't use them.
2 hits and you are dead. Yet still some fools will defend this by saying is "balanced". This broken mess that appeals only for tryhards. Well played there by the way man.

Serenade's got no openings when firing that green genocide beam (which I call) upwards. Still fires small lasers from behind too. I'm shocked by that

How did you cheat your way into this fight with no upgrades? No upgrades opens Red's portal, not Serenade's.
He left the Sub-tanks on.

no armor, no health upgrades, no 4 subtanks, no x drive, no shit it's gonna 2 shot. i agree the fight has problems but the damage isn't one of them.
It's like fighting the final boss at level 1 the problem is not that it's not a good idea the problem that is totally doable
