Yeah, the restored version really makes that little guitar piece in background sound amazing, especially with headphones. There is so much going on in this song. It's fun to try and pick out one little piece and just listen to it. Sometimes I'll just listen closely to the guitar piece, another time the bass, or the synthesizers. I was 6 when it premiered on MTV and was obsessed with it. I'd watch the video and just pick out a certain zombie in the dance sequence and watch the movements closely until I pretty much knew every visible dancer's little movements......I was totally obsessed. I could do the dance perfectly, I would tape record myself singing it....everything. it's been a good 10-11 years since I've watched the video or listened to the song and I've found myself doing the same thing I did as a kid.....watching the damn video and focusing on just one dancer at a time. Like the girl in the front to the left of Michael in the blue dress. If you watch when she first comes into frame she nudges the other dude out of her way with her shoulder to get up to the front lol. She's probably the best dancer of the whole bunch. The movements are perfectly smooth. She kinda makes old Michael look bad
This is one of the most iconic dance breaks ever! And what I noticed this time around is every dance had their own personality. We all know Michael Jackson but take a look at everyone else next to him and behind him. It really brings this even more to life that makes this incredible and timeless.

I was 12 when this first came out... too old to be scared of it plus this was about when movie channels started so I had seen plenty of truly terrifying movies by then - When a Stranger Calls, Halloween, The Shining, Friday the 13th, etc. so in comparison this was super tame. I wonder how many takes it took to get this right, it is simply amazing and its just as entertaining now as at 12 years old

This music on this track is timeless and still sounds relevant and fresh! We didn’t realise it back then but house and dance music was introduced to us right here on the end of this track. Listen to it! Years ahead of it’s time! I dare you to disagree 😉👍 YOU could play this loop in the club now in 2022 when it is 40 years old and not only would it sound fresh, everyone would also be dancing to it!

I think it was more along the lines of him changing back so that he wouldn’t scare the complete shit out of kids. Even though the beginning when he turns into a werewolf was enough, then he changes into a zombie. A lot to take in when your a kid. Especially cause it’s Michael Jackson. I also think he was trying to catch the essence of magic. He changes at the drop of a hat. I personally always loved it. Just adds another layer to what was already a masterpiece
+Josh To The Future Thriller has a mystical quality to it... especially when he turns to zombie..! I remember watching it when I was 5.. scared the shit outta me..! because a child's mind is fresh and still ambiguous about the outside reality.. he has a hard time processing certain images in his brain.. the first scene I saw was Mj turning into the zombie, I was scared and mystified at the same time.
I think it has to do with the fact that the video is supposed to be his girlfriend's nightmare and when he sings the lyrics in the video he's singing to her directly.
