One thing I never considered till now was that when okabe had that fever as a kid was probably right around when john titor arrived in the original time line, so maybe that's what caused it?

After rewatching the series, I think episode 10 is where people start noticing some plotholes in the show and some forced situations, whether funny, serious, etc., that can be easily avoided if Okabe just explained himself to the group instead of Kurisu doing that punishment thing, which got him again when he tried to follow Suzuha. Also, why didn't he explain WHY he wanted to follow her, that if she didn't succeed he would make it so her father never left her in the first place? But nope. Instead, he lets Kurisu talk over and threaten him, all of which could have been avoided if he just out his foot down about the time travel stuff. It happened with Feyris as well - like we're about to change the past, a possibility that could involve people being *erased from existence,* and Okabe just lets everyone be like "Don't read a girl's email, that's rude, pervert". Uh, NO, people can disappear from existence - show me the email so I can make sure it's aafe to send or it's not getting sent at all! - Pointed out by Evan Schiller on the Aniwave website.
Literally anything can change, if her mom ate more vegetables there on out it's basically a reroll, he could remain a guy and could change to a girl. But they rolled a girl so... Yey.
