Hello Tom. My Dad had an Aunt who lived in Arvada, CO, and every Summer we would drive from STL to Arvada, CO. We would spend two (2) weeks at her Cabin at Tunnel 27 near Pinecliffe, CO, which is Tunnel 29. We saw a Lot of Denver & Rio Grande Trains. It was Great Fun. My wife and I went to CO and easily found the area like it was yesterday. Thanks for the Great 👍 Video.
Tom, don't know what happens with the video, but we have tried 3 times to watch it and it stops and won't load up and play. We will try again tomorrow.
Trains are few and far between. You can spend the whole day there and not see anything. I believe there is only about 6 daily trains including the two Amtrak. Freights can come at any time and there is no way to know when they are coming. From my experience from 11AM-6:00 PM there usually isn't anything expect Amtrak, which stops traffic for 1 1/2 hours before it comes. Amtrak passes through tunnel #1 (heading downhill) around 5:50 PM. Once in a while a freight will come from Denver after Amtrak passes through Arvada. I haven't seen any UP trains going up or down the Moffat in a long time. BNSF trains going uphill are pretty rare with most traffic going down hill. They also do track maintenance and inspection between 11-4 so that doesn't help anything. Fridays and Sundays seem to be the best days for catching any freights during daylight hours.
@@travelingtom923 -I appreciate the reply. I guess checking the Amtrak schedule is my best bet. I have to drive 3+ hours to get to hiway 93 between 72 and 119 to see the front range tunnels. Going to Nederland to get to the east portal next week, if the hiway is open. Early sunsets are a killer.
@@travelingtom923 From my experience, scheduled UP and BNSF freight seems to be in the mornings thru winter park. Loaded coal seems to be mostly in the mornings, but can be any time of day. (It isn't daily like it used to be as you know). UP MGJNY/MNYGJ run Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays. .Usually late morning thru WP for the MGJNY, early morning (5-8am) for the MNYGJ. The BNSF freights (HPVODEN/HDENPVO) are daily. It seems like as soon as Amtrak enters the Moffat, every freight goes into a siding.
@@tampabayrails Thanks for that information. Amtrak will stop the traffic in either direction for at least 2 hours before it comes through. It seems on the Denver side there is one BNSF train in the afternoon between 1-4PM and maybe one heading the other way after Amtrak comes through after 6PM.

You are welcome. I need to spend a day at tunnel 29. Beautiful area.
Very nice locations, the scenery is amazing.
Good Morning Tom!!🍵 Much different weather there than here where I live!
Thank you TT - two great locations, beautiful weather and landscapes topped off with a huge six unit freight. Congratulations on this catch! 😎
Great Video from two Picture Perfect Locations !!! 👍
Awesome locations, love the shots of the train as it's coming down the Moffat

Tom, how do I get a schedule of trains on the Moffat Line? I spent several hours there last week and saw nary a train the whole time.
