      Glad you feel the same way! By the way, if you ever decide to get another one of those suits, and do the Hammond thing… I came up with an idea long time ago for how to do the eyes. A lot of swim goggles that you can buy have a black rubber seal that’s supposed to create the suction around your eyesocket that actually is removable. You can either buy cheap sunglasses with oval shaped lenses or get wire, mesh and cut it to an oval and fit it inside the seal and use those. I made a replica of the mask years ago and it worked perfectly. I didn’t even need to glue them in place.

      @@solitaire8585 Idk why I never saw this comment. 7 months ago....oops.😅 Swim goggles is a great idea. Regarding using sunglasses lenses, this is what I did with the homemade suit that I made back in 2002, and it worked very well. I have a video on my channel where I try on that homemade suit after 20 years collecting dust in my attic.

    EXCELLENT VIDEO!!!! Wow you got the FLIPS and MOVES done perfectly! I thought this would be some ho-hum review, but NO YOU PROVED ME WRONG!!!
    The Japanese and Nicholas Hammond Spidey suits are the exact same suit except the Japanese Spiderman has a wrist thingy and the American version has a different mask with spaghetti strainer eyes and a utility belt.
    Your eyes look fine. Why didn't it come with pre-printed eyes???
    I myself made a rubber face mask based on the Japanese Spiderman with his facial features showing through mask. Yes the eyes do change scene to scene from thin to very wide.
    How much did it cost?
    Thank you for uploading!

    • @JDJohnston9906753
      @JDJohnston9906753  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks! I studied the show really closely. I wanted to do that transformation scene justice. You can buy the suit with lenses attached if you want, but Herostime did not have any Spidey lenses in stock that looked like the one's from the old show. Plus, it's just fun to make them from scratch. The base suit is around $80 if memory serves, but from there, cost will depend upon what add ons you get, custom tailoring vs off the rack, using coupon codes, etc. Thanks for the comments! I'm glad people are appreciating the work that goes into some of these videos. lol

  • @theCreature22

    Great job, and review! This is the suit I have, although they did cut eye holes for me and cut them just a bit too high. I’m not sure if this is because I have the hood attached or if I should have given them an inch shorter on my height (to my knowledge it was exact, but I suppose next time I’ll buy with the mask unattached to be safe). It does look great in person and very shiny!
    Can I ask how you glued the lenses down and what you did to make them fit properly? I’m looking into doing the same for simplicity with some white mesh and fabric but want to make sure it looks good when filled in and stretched out.

    • @JDJohnston9906753
      @JDJohnston9906753  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! Idk why the hood being attached would change where they cut the eyeholes. There's a pretty clear blank area on all Spider-Man mask patterns where the eyeholes are meant to be cut. All the company has to do is make sure they cut them out in that area. This is the reason I like to get no eye holes and do it myself. It's a bit of a hassle and more work for me, but at least I know they'll be in the right place and I can cut them the right size.

    • @JDJohnston9906753
      @JDJohnston9906753  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Regarding lenses, I think the way you're talking about doing it will work better for this version of the character. If I had this to do again, I would use fabric for the black part and cloth mesh for the white part. I used 1/8th inch EVA foam for the black outside and pc fan filter mesh painted white for the inside. I glued them down with E6000 glue (pretty much my go to glue for just about everything) It was a while ago, but I "think" I put the mask on, held the lenses up to my eyes where I thought they looked right, marked a couple of points with a chalk pencil, took the mask off. Then I made a 2D cardboard head, put the mask on it and glued the lenses onto the mask lining them up with those chalk pencil markings. Idk if any of that makes any sense. It's hard to explain in words. There's probably a better way for me to have done it, but this is what I did. My mask is attached, so I'm stuck with it the way it is. It works I guess. Apologies for the ridiculously long reply 😅

    • @theCreature22
      @theCreature22 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JDJohnston9906753 My bad! I should have worded it better; the eye holes were cut in the right location but the hood itself rests a bit too high (leaving the holes right above eye level when you pull the hood up). The likely culprit is that I was off on my height by a centimeter or so, but to my knowledge the measurement I gave them was exact. It probably wouldn't have even been noticeable had I gotten the mask separately as you can adjust it more when it's a separate piece, but live and learn I suppose! Fortunately it's not a huge issue- a slight tug downward and we're ready to rock (and everything else is measured perfectly)- and I now know what to look out for if I get another in the future!

    • @theCreature22
      @theCreature22 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JDJohnston9906753 And thanks for the advice; no worries for the long reply! Any info helps as I'm learning my way through it. I was thinking of using a helmet or something to "fill it out" the head while I worked on the eyes. I love the conveniences to having the mask attached (and the easier the lenses, the better that will be), but I realize the additional benefits to having it as a separate piece.
      I'm working on seeing if I can either glue or sew the lenses on with black silk and white speaker mesh- this would probably give the closest to the desired effect but I don't know how sewing will work on spandex. Is E6000 glue good/flexible for fabric and spandex? I'll definitely give it a look.
      I'm additionally testing "magnetic" lenses with some black foam/speaker mesh and an old wrap-around Zorro mask. It's essentially the same setup as the face shell but a lot softer and hides surprisingly well under the fabric. If this works, it might be the way to go as I'd be able to alternate the Toei lenses and the "Nicholas Hammond" lenses.
