- Sunday Concert: Music In The USSR, January 14th, 1962. Serge Prokofieff, Piano Sonata No. 7 in B-flat major op.83. Gould appears as performer and commentator, tracing the development of style in Russian music.
Very interesting! Gould was a most erudite musician. And of course he was a great pianist too.
Glenn hits the nail on the head here: "There has been in my view, only one composer resident in the Soviet Union who can indisputably be termed a genius. He is Sergei Prokofiev, and again, in my opinion, after Tchaikovsky, the most important of all Russian composers."
I love it when my hot takes come flying out of Gould’s mouth 😳😂
It's great to see Gould talking about the USSR music with a samovar ! 😁
Да, это прекрасно и умилительно. Мы тронули душу Гленна. Самовар этому свидетель 🥰.
A samovar . . . of course Gould would have a samovar for his discussion of the Soviet Music Critics and the rights of man. He tends to kill me!
Coffe or tea?
Samovar is a teapot, it's never used for coffee
2:46 Tchaikovsky better than Rachmaninov, Stravinsky and Shostakovich?
Utter nonsense.
Rawr!!
