@@richardrobin5837because it wouldn’t be fair. imagine you’re in a bidding war with me and i keep raising the price just to say “nevermind”. the price of the item was raised because of the person who backed out.
Most likely whoever buys this and opens it is screwed as that OPC gum is brutal and can ruin up to 4 cards in a pack. That case is only valuable unopened. Pounding Red Bulls? ....He needs to see a cardiologist now.
I agree. Especially if the box was stored in an area with high humidity. If in dry Western climate, only the top card is destroyed. But, I wouldn’t open any--keep case sealed.
@christophertarr9005 That OPC gum is really destructive.....they probably used less chemicals and pure sugar. Most say the gum is worse but that probably because the Topps gum stays on tact would indicate various ingredients that holds the form better. IE) more chemicals than what Canada would use. ;)
This is a situation where CT scanning is necessary to help determine the authenticity of the case. Then why not show the CT scan images of the big cards as part of the auction listing?
10 or more 1/1’s is just silly. The 1/1 is a joke now a days. What’s most concerning is one of the products biggest hits only sells for 3x of the box release price. That’s really bad.
You'd have to read the TOS, but my guess is heritage considers a bid a binding contract. The family has a case. Anything less than a 6 figure difference would not be worth a lawsuit as it would cost too much in legal fees.
I block at least, three people per month, for bidding, then not paying. I sold a card in an auction for $549.00, the winning bidder didn't pay, I placed the same card on auction and it literally sold a week later for $712.00.
I'm sad the mint isn't coming back. That show was fun. I always seem to be unavailable when the front row shows are in Vegas, but I'd love to go back there for another show. Probably the best town in the whole country for a show
And I’ve been saying for years that one of the great things about collecting hockey cards was hardly any drama in comparison to all the other sports…. I guess this story blows up that idea! 😏
Really sad to see what happened with the 79 O-Pee-Chee case, it was a great story for the hockey hobby that it sold that high - and would have been great even a lot lower, but feel that it’s going to leave a bad taste if the next auction ends significantly lower, which it probably will (probably b/c that guy was uneducated and thought he was gonna get a whole bunch of PSA 10 Gretzkys out of the case and then realized he wasn’t)
If it's a case that has a Wayne Gretzky rookie that graded PSA 10 sold for 4 million and it's selling for 3.7 million for a whole case that probably has at least 5-10 maybe more Gretzky rookies I mean it sounds like a decent deal
Rubin used Fanatics as leverage for the new 76ers arena to sell the franchise off for a record deal and profit. He is going to limit overall risk/exposure in his portfolio of investments/ownership. The economy is in trouble. Wealthy people are making moves as in sell offs to cash in and hold while it all shakes, rattles and rolls.
Fanatics probably had a lot of people that were part of the event from areas affected by the storm. Although Orlando wasn't hit hard, plenty of people from the FL area hurt by hurricane that were signed up more than likely backed out and Fanatics couldn't get anyone to fill those spots.
The buyer should be sued and blasted on all social media accounts..He's just making up bs ..But it's on Heritage to make these buyers Pay and is a big big black eye on them
Hertiage Auctions should have in their contracts that any BIDDER who wins, should the "deadbeat" and default on payment, they owe the Buyer's Premium (I think it's 20%) to Heritage who goes through the rigors of marketing these auctions. It's primarily a penalty to do more than a warning or slap on the wrist to flaky buyers that there are repercussions to deceptive actions. The buyer can't simply do an "oops, my bad" and walk away. There needs to be a financial penalty.
It will definitely sell for less if/when it goes back up for auction. All the hype is gone for this case. Graded 79 OPC packs have softened quite a bit, too, over the past year. Fishy situation here.
This is ridiculous. The family wouldn't win in court. People renege on bids every minute of the day. The family had recourse to sell it to the next best bidder. Or, they could have immediately relisted the item. And, the winner can equally plead mental health reasons for bidding. As for the fine print about the legal commitments related to the consignment company, any decent attorney would drive a truck through it. The family itself knows the sale isn't final until the money is actually transferred. At best, bidding is a handshake agreement, simply because pursuing someone for damages itself is a can of worms, and usually not worth the emotional turmoil. What the family, consignment company, and winner needed to do is immediately settle the matter out of court. I get that letting the bidder off the hook sets a precedent. But, even the number based on my own knowledge of the hobby was unrealistic. Almost all disputes should be settled amicably.
You're not getting your money back from that case because sport card manufactures are trash and they sell trash quality products as well ...to this day.
If they LOST 20 million in FanFest NYC, why do it again? Maybe STOP sugar coating and kissing fanatics butt and tell them honestly FanFest was a BUST to many. It's called Contract Law, silly. As for the other part. Deport illegal immigrants, insist on their only being two genders( a self evident truth if there ever was one), ban biological men from competing in women's sports, allow people to sue surgeons and other enablers who butchered children's genitalia, declare the Mexican Mafia a terrorist organisation, etc. Most countries would be lucky to have such sensible policies. It gives me great comfort to think of all those Left wing lunatics who are 'not coping' because the American people were fed up with the insanity that was being pushed down their throats and spoke loudly at the ballot box. God bless America. P.S. Are you a woke New Zealander, Canadian, or Brit? Anything but an Australian, please.
I don't feel too sorry for the sellers. Sit on it for a couple of years and it will sell for the same price or more. Or sell it now for maybe 3 million and keep 2 million after taxes for a case they got for next to nothing.

That is a hell of a shill
Happens all the time on eBay, and Heritage pumped up WATA graded games with that method.
That buyer should be banned from every auction house and selling platform known to existence.
Tim Hortons needs to buy that case and run a promotion - exchange 1 million reward points for a pack.
Bids over a million dollars should have a substantial deposit demanded

Why do you believe Fanatics is going down in flames?
This feels like a miss on Heritage's part. To let a client hang like that for 8 months is unacceptable.
