- [KiniNews] The implementation of the targeted diesel subsidy is aimed at the rich as well as foreigners who have long benefited from low fuel prices and not to burden the public, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
He said diesel is not used by the majority of people and those affected, such as taxi drivers, small traders, and fisherfolk, all are given exemptions and assistance to cover the cost increase.
“So, why is he (opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin) busy opposing it? Who is he trying to defend? We have been stressing that the targeted subsidy is to prevent the rich and foreigners from enjoying it," said Anwar.
Meanwhile, in a separate story, academic Tajuddin Rasdi has schooled Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh on the usage of the term “apartheid” after the latter took exception to a Malaysiakini columnist’s description of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).
Citing the Cambridge Dictionary, the UCSI University lecturer pointed out that while the word “apartheid” originated from the Afrikaans word for South Africa’s system of institutionalised racism, the word is also used in the English language to refer to discriminatory policies more generally.

The most users of diesel are people who supply the goods. So do you think the owners of the shops will not increase the price of the goods or services to cover their expenses.

Why is he making it complicated ? Give subsidies to everyone who owns the BLUE IC. Everytime you want to fuel up, just show the IC, and have pumps that are provided for Malaysians (which are only "unlocked"after the ic is shown)
The best is still the GST. If one buys one will definitely pay the tax no escape but the percentage can be lowered say at 5%. Because of the Madanon pledged of abolishing the GST b4 coming to power hence now need to find ways to shore up the country's coffers thru the ablishment of subsidies. What a dumb move that backfire.
How is GST best? Ure making the poor becoming poorer.

You should use quota system as a limitation to the petrol not commercial diesel. Diesel once you touch no matter what rationalisation will affect goods. Many 4x4 and Van use to send goods through lalamove and buy stocks from pasar borong for their restaurant. The chain reaction from the increase will definitely impact end users. No businesses want to lose money but only end user suffers.

What the....? That question should be ask before 1998, not now. Why ask now? Its been more than 20 years those who want to reduce or cancel or take back the subsidy; "enjoy" and received subsidised fuels and many other goods but it is not an issue back then isn't it? they hold and have huge amount of assets compared to other citizens, but still received and did not complaint about the subsidy back then

@@muhdrahimi3725 you just need politicians that has common goals (I hope that is building a stronger economy) and that build bridges identify the common points across all demographics rather than creating diversion, which is what they are doing now. But when playing the racial card works in favor of them, why would you think the politicians will change their approach? The way I see it, our country's current outlook is way better than 5 years ago.

UiTM is Apartheid academy with what they are practising. The race affirmative actions policy is clearly racist discriminatory. Why is that a foreigner, who are not Malaysian and non bumi can be allowed to enrol for postgraduate programmes, but Malaysian non bumis are not allowed ?.. if that is not racist then what is ?.
