His voice was so dauntingly perfect. One of the best voice over performances I have ever seen. I hung onto every word even though I wasn't going to follow along just because it was so good.
Yeah it's very velvety and comforting, perfect for a character who tries to entice the protagonists and string them along, while still maintaining a classic villain-esque voice

Actually if you change Raphael's voice you will get a completely different character. If Raphael is Raphael it is because of his voice / tone. Raphael is a fantastic performance.

Yeah, as soon as he said he was doing audiobooks, I made a mental note to look him up for my next credit on audible. A good voice actor makes all the difference.
The moment Raphael's boss song started, I just got the biggest smile on my face, even after he one shot half my party. Can't wait to see what roles he does next.
@@urbanrip7477 i used globes of invulnerability to eat every attack he and his mobs made, i took literally almost no damage. just get your thieving bonus up high, go to the mage tower in baldur's gate and steal from the simulacrum of rolan/the evil wizard dude, they dont get made or call guards if you fail an ability check, they dont even react. you can stand there and steal everything he has if you want, you will have to make some of the armor suit guards turn away from him by talking to them from a direction facing away from the simulacrum.
"But [which Disney Villain] have they got in mind?" Scar. Be Prepared. He really channeled Jeremy Irons' character, whether it was intentional or not. And it was incredible.

I AM SO GLAD THAT YOU ASKED HIM ABOUT THE SONG. Best boss music in the entire game. Such a standout moment for me. I jumped out of my chair when I heard Andrew's voice come in on the track. It was so campy and just perfection. His performance throughout the entire game was SO inspiring and incredible. He breathed so much sensational energy into a larger-than-life character, not an easy feat.
When I was fighting him and I realized he was SINGING ABOUT HOW HE WAS GOING TO BEAT MY ASS like a Broadway star I realized how special this game really was.
When his line comes in on the song, I literally laughed my ass off and muttered something along the lines of "This mf'er is a Disney Villain!" and somehow it just suits perfectly for Raphael
Raphael's Final song was a highlight of Act 3 for me. It's hard to imagine Andrew didn't had any experiences with musicals, he straight-up nailed this one. Many fights in this game have a specific theme music, but this? This was *special*. It really is fitting for something preposterous like assaulting a devil in his house, you're supposed to feel like you've jumped over your head. And the music just does that. Beautifully.
I love the relish in Raphael's voice, it reminds me of the same way we feel when we've caught someone with their hand in the cookie jar, the thrill of catching a pest in the act of pestering, the anticipation of squishing this annoying thing or triumphing over a most annoying petty rival. "HA! I got you, you little bastard!"
“And down comes the claw” The best epic boss battle. Kinda wish we could have a full romance with our drama geek Raphael romance. He was clearly a theater kid.
You're not alone. There are several of us out there. I even put a feedback in Larian for a romance. So theatrical! I would have loved a romance with Raphael and Abdirak!

It's just soooooo good, I loved talking to Raphael. His character in general was *chefs kiss* and the voice just complimented him into perfection.

I can't help but utter the words "man, this voice actor is great", every time when my character converse with Raphael during my stream. So happy to watch this interview to see the talent behind that voice & impressive performance.
This is my first comment in 13 years on TH-cam. Just had to say you did an absolutetly amazing job. Unimaginably to have Raphael be voiced by someone else. You made the character your own and the result is fantastic. And the final "musical" fight scene is absolutely fantastic and such a treat. Lit up my life for a while in a not very good period of it. The absolute magical moment when you're at the end of the House of Hope plotline and you're about to begin the most (in my opinion) daunting fights in the whole game, and *that* song comes on. Oh laaaawd. Not just because it's unexpected as there are almost no songs with actual lyrics in the game, certainly not battle themes, but it's sung by Raphael HIMSELF. My jaw actually fell wide open. I mean, add on top of that the fact it was like a Disney villain song, and so well performed. It was just such a perfect addition to the moment that made it one of the most memorable in the entire game. Well done
It gave me absolute whiplash. Like, the moment where my brain told me "that isn't the cool boss theme, that music is IN GAME." I've been in a lot of boss fights, but never one where the boss dropped a diss track while it happened.
Some of the characters are based off of the voice actors. Like laezel looks like her voice actor with her nose shrivelled up and githyanki features, but you can definitely tell.
18:48 Yes Scar from The Lion King with Hans Zimmer's epic score is such a good comparison. Very Shakespearean and mustache-twirling but with Hope's angelic offset
I actually think he's got something of every Disney Villain. The character is double-tongued as Hades or Facilier. Noble as Scar and Shir Khan. Evil as Jaffar and Ursula. Twisted as Frollo. A self loving narcicist as Gaston. And the epic background music reminds me a lot of Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribian.
Please tell Andrew that when we're talking about Disney villain's song we mean "Hellfire" from Hunchback of Notre Dame. Raphael's song reminded me about it almost instantly
Andrew is just a BLESSING. Such an incredible actor and vocalist. I remember getting into the boss fight with Raphael and listening to the song in full before fighting. You have to be truly skilled to make people hate or despise your character. He really sold the concept of a villan with his voice acting and motion capture. Truly, from the bottom of our hearts, Thank you Andrew for making this character come to life. And thank you to Dan for an excellent interview - as always!
I love Raphael because he was in my opinion good presentation of how Devil should be. He's not in-your-face evil, he's charming, calm, etc, but you can see something is off about him. When he offers you a deal, he makes it so that you think it's one of your own making where you will come up top, but like Wyll said, house always wins and there's no way of beating the devil(s) at their own game. Which brings me to a scene where Mol signs a contract with him, he flat out allows her to beat him at chest, giving her false impression she can beat Devil at his own game. Also I think lot of it comes from terrific voice acting performance, he didn't raise his voice once and his lines sounded threatening because he always spoke like he's in absolute control. I played as paladin on my second run and because he's the literal devil, naturally I was very hostile towards him and Raphael was like "oh come now, no need for such behavior, you're civilized little mouse, aren't you?"
I've first heard Andrew's voice in Warhammer 40k audiobooks, some of my favourites are voiced by him, including the Night Lords books which are phenomenal and the voice work just takes it to an other level in my opinion. So when I heard Raphael speak for the first time I literally went "YEEESSSS".
I played the raphael final act blind and it blew my mind. The song was the coup of all time in the history of video games. When I heard that song, the intensity, 666 hit points... all I thought was "The Devil just took the wheel... and I'm just a backseat driver!!!"
Infiltrating the House of Hope is a moment in gaming that has everything come together so perfectly, there's nothing else I can compare it to in my 25+ years of gaming experiences, it's that special. The entire game is a perfect blend of talent, vision and direction, and Andrews performance as Raphael, from his first appearance ("The Devil you know" line really drew me in) to his final, show-stopping number was immaculate, a poetic irony given the nature of his character. It's really nice to see an interview now, to see him made aware of how well received the song was. It's great to hear him give kudos to the direction and composer, as we take for granted their roles, and they absolutely blew it out of the water.
Imagine playing this game all the way through and missing the final boss fight with Raphael - Andrew was great - Raphael is my 'favourite' character in the game.
the Disney villain is 100% Jeremy Irons as Scar... thats what we all have in mind :) there are some nice resemblences with his brilliant musical song Be Prepared :)

Fell in love with Mr. Wincott's voice when I listened to the Night Lords audiobooks over the past year. You have no idea how big I smiled when I recognized him voicing Raphael. Was like running into an old friend again. "Holy shit, it's Talos!!!"
All of your interviews have been amazing, somehow on this one I just felt the need to go back and listen again to really make sure I absorb what Andrew was saying. As someone who's voice acted in over 100 games before he has a really unique perspective on the artform.
It's good when the audience hates your evil character, it means you played it well. A character is only bad when it doesn't cause any emotional reaction.
Andrew was without a doubt my favorite voice actor in this game, every line he gave was so captivating and daunting. Absolutley loved his performance and hope to see him in many, many more projects.
He's one of the best voice actor for a villain character. He's voice is so menacing and intimidating. He's like perfect for this role, honestly. He's just too good, man.

I ran a tabletop game of Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus and really delved into the lore of the Blood War, devils, demons, the Abyss, etc. To the point that I cringe and have to stop myself from correcting people when they call a devil a demon. Raphael so elegantly captures the thoughtful, intelligent, gracefulness that devils cover themselves in to hide their utter eternal misery. It is such a captivating performance that fits so well what came before.
Yeah! This is one of the interview I was really looking forward to. Raphael is a magnificent character with magnificent voice behind him. Thank you Andrew for your performance.

The amount of hours I have listened to Raphael's song- I'm sensetive to noises and have sensory overload a lot at school so I have to listen to music. I listened to that song for like 2 whole school days in a row on repeat for like 6-7 hours both days and I'm still not tired of it. It's so good

When Andrew said "John Sinclair" I immediatly knew what he was talking about and right before he mentioned it, it came to my mind that I propably knew it because I am German :D What a nice and humble guy he is. I went into work early today and was listening to Raphael's Final act on a loop and after about the third repeat 2 of my workmates just spontaneously say, "Man I loved that scene' and "oh my god I got my ass handed to me by him" with no other context. I didn't even know those two played BG3. That's how universal this song and Andrew has become!
I can so relate to that second opinion 😂. It took me 1,5 days to beat that fight. Anyways, I love his performance to hell hot bits! Raphael is so intense.
Andrew Wincott's performance of Raphael has been the only one that's actually given me goose bumps during some of the many dialogues. I've even reloaded saved games just to go back and listen to the conversation again :)
Raphael has a presence. The scene that made me appreciate him more was his conversation with the party regarding him trying to make a deal for a certain 10 year old or so little girls soul. It was like he was placing a bid for a painting he liked.
I'm *so* glad you got Andrew on here. Raphael is the best villain I've seen in ages. I found myself hanging on his every word (while also wanting to punch him).
Final Act is an absolute masterpiece. It was so thrilling to play that for the first time. I have seen thaetrical villains, but to have one turn our showdown into a performance must be one of the most genious parts of this game.
The scene with Raphael's incubus was absolutely amazing in terms of acting, and listening to the actor talking about it was very satisfying. I replayed it twice on my first playthrough just to listen to it again. It definitely stood out from Raphael's other scenes with those subtly different tones and mannerism for an already nuanced character. Thank you for this interview!
What a sweet man! This was a really cool interview, I enjoyed hearing about the behind the scenes stuff but also the off-topic conversations about movies and Spain, to see him talk about stuff he's passionate about and really interested in was just nice to see. I hope all the people involved in making this game are able to experience the full force of the positive feedback and the love and the appreciation that we have for this game and its characters.

It gave me absolute whiplash. Like, the moment where my brain told me "that isn't the cool boss theme, that music is IN GAME." I've been in a lot of boss fights, but never one where the boss dropped a diss track while it happened.

Some of the characters are based off of the voice actors. Like laezel looks like her voice actor with her nose shrivelled up and githyanki features, but you can definitely tell.
A lot of the VAs, especially the origin companions, do look quite similar to their characters.
An example of Disney villain it feels reminiscent of something of a mix of like Frollo, Scar and Dr.Facilier.
18:48 Yes Scar from The Lion King with Hans Zimmer's epic score is such a good comparison. Very Shakespearean and mustache-twirling but with Hope's angelic offset
I actually think he's got something of every Disney Villain. The character is double-tongued as Hades or Facilier. Noble as Scar and Shir Khan. Evil as Jaffar and Ursula. Twisted as Frollo. A self loving narcicist as Gaston. And the epic background music reminds me a lot of Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribian.
Probably one of the best voice acting performances in the game!
And that's saying a lot, considering how amazing every single voice acting performance was in BG3. Actually flawless.

Andrew is just a BLESSING. Such an incredible actor and vocalist. I remember getting into the boss fight with Raphael and listening to the song in full before fighting.
You have to be truly skilled to make people hate or despise your character. He really sold the concept of a villan with his voice acting and motion capture.

I love Raphael because he was in my opinion good presentation of how Devil should be. He's not in-your-face evil, he's charming, calm, etc, but you can see something is off about him. When he offers you a deal, he makes it so that you think it's one of your own making where you will come up top, but like Wyll said, house always wins and there's no way of beating the devil(s) at their own game. Which brings me to a scene where Mol signs a contract with him, he flat out allows her to beat him at chest, giving her false impression she can beat Devil at his own game. Also I think lot of it comes from terrific voice acting performance, he didn't raise his voice once and his lines sounded threatening because he always spoke like he's in absolute control.
I played as paladin on my second run and because he's the literal devil, naturally I was very hostile towards him and Raphael was like "oh come now, no need for such behavior, you're civilized little mouse, aren't you?"
I've first heard Andrew's voice in Warhammer 40k audiobooks, some of my favourites are voiced by him, including the Night Lords books which are phenomenal and the voice work just takes it to an other level in my opinion. So when I heard Raphael speak for the first time I literally went "YEEESSSS".
SAME, i was so hyped when i talked to raphael and was like "hold up, i know this voice from somewhere" then it hit me "AND THERE AGAIN WE FAILED"
When i first heard him when he popped up i was like. THAT'S TALOS 😂😂
I played the raphael final act blind and it blew my mind. The song was the coup of all time in the history of video games. When I heard that song, the intensity, 666 hit points... all I thought was "The Devil just took the wheel... and I'm just a backseat driver!!!"

Infiltrating the House of Hope is a moment in gaming that has everything come together so perfectly, there's nothing else I can compare it to in my 25+ years of gaming experiences, it's that special. The entire game is a perfect blend of talent, vision and direction, and Andrews performance as Raphael, from his first appearance ("The Devil you know" line really drew me in) to his final, show-stopping number was immaculate, a poetic irony given the nature of his character. It's really nice to see an interview now, to see him made aware of how well received the song was. It's great to hear him give kudos to the direction and composer, as we take for granted their roles, and they absolutely blew it out of the water.
The moment you hear the boss singing his own song. You KNEW that you were in his own home and his going to take out the trash.
Imagine playing this game all the way through and missing the final boss fight with Raphael - Andrew was great - Raphael is my 'favourite' character in the game.
the Disney villain is 100% Jeremy Irons as Scar... thats what we all have in mind :) there are some nice resemblences with his brilliant musical song Be Prepared :)

Fell in love with Mr. Wincott's voice when I listened to the Night Lords audiobooks over the past year. You have no idea how big I smiled when I recognized him voicing Raphael. Was like running into an old friend again. "Holy shit, it's Talos!!!"

All of your interviews have been amazing, somehow on this one I just felt the need to go back and listen again to really make sure I absorb what Andrew was saying. As someone who's voice acted in over 100 games before he has a really unique perspective on the artform.
It's good when the audience hates your evil character, it means you played it well. A character is only bad when it doesn't cause any emotional reaction.

I ran a tabletop game of Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus and really delved into the lore of the Blood War, devils, demons, the Abyss, etc. To the point that I cringe and have to stop myself from correcting people when they call a devil a demon. Raphael so elegantly captures the thoughtful, intelligent, gracefulness that devils cover themselves in to hide their utter eternal misery. It is such a captivating performance that fits so well what came before.

The amount of hours I have listened to Raphael's song- I'm sensetive to noises and have sensory overload a lot at school so I have to listen to music. I listened to that song for like 2 whole school days in a row on repeat for like 6-7 hours both days and I'm still not tired of it. It's so good

I went into work early today and was listening to Raphael's Final act on a loop and after about the third repeat 2 of my workmates just spontaneously say, "Man I loved that scene' and "oh my god I got my ass handed to me by him" with no other context. I didn't even know those two played BG3. That's how universal this song and Andrew has become!

Raphael has a presence. The scene that made me appreciate him more was his conversation with the party regarding him trying to make a deal for a certain 10 year old or so little girls soul. It was like he was placing a bid for a painting he liked.
I can’t help but think Frollo from the hunchback of Notre Dame when the music kicks in. Giving me those types of vibes. Great villain.

The scene with Raphael's incubus was absolutely amazing in terms of acting, and listening to the actor talking about it was very satisfying. I replayed it twice on my first playthrough just to listen to it again.
