I am from the US trying to learn the game. Coming from a baseball background I was surprised how much Butler approaches batting like a baseball player versus Freddy with a more traditional style. Freddys style is more balanced and in control. I know the game is moving towards more power and offense but Butler’s style strikes me as a lot harder to master for the amateur player. In baseball your front foot is always moving straight towards the bowler thus you can develop a swing with more movement and use your hips to generate power. With the batsman’s feet moving both left, right and center in cricket it seems like it would be easier to lose the balance and fluidity required to generate power consistently.
Its nice to hear that the US guys trying to learn cricket..... Yeah the frontfoot movement does play a major role in generating power, but in professional games, batsmen usually score runs with the technique and timing to hit the ball rather than usage of power..
