  • This is my technique for getting nice, mostly smooth edges on your inkle weaving. Of course, any hand made item will have little quirks and inperfections, but this will hopefully teach you to get a little more even. :)

I use the rubber like shelf liner. Keeps everything still.

Thank you! I am making my first strap on an Inkle loom, and this is the best video for showing how to make an even selvage. Your instructions explain very clearly how to pinch and pull the loop. 👍

Wow, that was an excellent tutorial. Thank you! I never understood about switching sheds and leaving the loop. Now i see, just in time for my next project. Thank you again for your clear instructions.

Thank you for posting this! I'm brand new to Inkle weaving and your method is working beautifully on my 2nd band attempt. Pulling the loop and strand together to get rid of those bumps before sliding the loop through really creates a more even weaving surface and edges!!!!!

Learned this by tablet weaving tutorials but such a great explanation here. Great technique!

Wound up discovering this technique on my own. XD Good tutorial!
I'd like to add my little extra bit: Pull your thread towards you as you pull through to reduce the chance of bubbles when switching sheds, and leave the loop until you have the next thread pulled and packed. So it would be tug and leave loop, switch shed and pack, tug and leave loop, *then* pull the loop for the first closed. The second thread acts as a lock for the first so it slides closed without bubbling up again. When I really got going, it became a simultaneous pulling outward motion with both hands. :)
Edit: forgot to add, it has the added benefit of razor straight weft threads through the whole piece so you don't have parts that are super compacted and spots that curve. 😁

Nice! Thanks for the tips! I'll have to give that technique a go. 😊

@@LovebirdLaneMakes Glad to help! You can see the tug I'm talking about in this video. Unlike her, I leave the loop until the next one is snug. :)

Thanks for showing how to get nice edges. I was getting so frustrated and seriously thinking of dropping my loom off at my local op shop. I'm having so much fun now. ❤❤
