I’m a software engineer based in London with a background in mechanical and aerospace engineering. Most of my time is spent reading, coding and drinking too much coffee. I got into coding by automating simulation workflows and building EdgeSheet.com, and now I’m documenting my life as an engineer on the internet.

For last 20 years I have always liked the semi-transparent terminal background, but colors are also useful when you use, for example, grep in large files. Oh my zsh interested me in more available plugins that can make work easier. Unfortunately, I didn't find some plugin verification policy, so you have to be careful what you install and only use the recommended ones - after all, they can do anything in your terminal.

You need to give Neovim a shot, Jackie! I know it's a scary mountain to climb but it's worth it, I promise! Once you get the hang of Motions you'll see the light in how insanely productive using Vim is!
Maybe new Terminal test -> Warp. There is lot of hype lately ...
Also I can recommend starship prompt.

as nvim user i only need ansible and stew then cloning my dotfiles repo and I can setup my dev environment in less than 30 minutes.
Great video as always, as a Mac user i highly recommend these apps / tools that will make your life easier (also they are open source):
1) rectangle - windows suck on Mac lol
2) Xnip - a better screenshot tool
3) Alfred
4) menubarX - it sits in your menubar and has alot of apps that you can use
5) hidden bar - for a minimal look

I would also defend with my life the apps that work for me, but sometimes I find a new app that I obsess over (like arc browser). Interestingly I haven't made the change to iterm2 (at least yet), but I don't use the terminal in an intensive way, so motivation hasn't come up. I just edited my bash profile to change the format of the prompt (colors and order).
also, don't know why, but i laughed at that Portuguese "arcoiris" 😂

If you don't want to have to go through this kinda headache again it could be worth setting up an ansible playbook that does all the basic install and config automatically. It has saved me hours having a basic install playbook ready to go that installs all my programs and clones down all my configs I use.
That's not a bad idea and would be useful to share with onboarding new team members. I wonder if it's approved for use by security.

You can also just keep most of your config in a Git repository somewhere and use stow to symlink it to the correct locations

"i dont do programming outside of my job" explains why it took so long to setup the Mac. I have all the 3 OSs, Windows takes the longest. Mac is way faster. Linux, you hardly have to think about setting it up 😂
