We're in the hurricane season, abd this year has started very early. So far many islands have been severely affected. We give thanks to God that we're ok so far and pray for those nations affected badly and is currently being affected by this new hurricane today.
I am an old sea dog and I never cease to be amazed how corners are never protected with old tyres or some equivalent, even in 'posh' marinas, no matter where in the world you boat. It's plain dumb.
This landlubbber is shaken . I dont want to even imagin being out there when some thing worst hits . Anyhow thanks for the video .And be alert and safeb👍
The 2 Tugs were rafter up with the large one tied to a mooring drum by the stern with Heshan rope. They broke free as soon as it started at about 2 am. The Fishing boat has got off several times recently. The small ferry was moored with a single badly worn line. The large grey barge/ship which is unnamed dragged about half a mile SE to NW. So, of the 5 largest Trinidad vessells on anchor, 4 broke free and 1 dragged. No way of knowing how many vessells were knocked off their moorings by these. Sounds like someone can’t tie their shoe laces let alone tie a boat up properly and should go back to farming.
I was down there yesterday after lunch... i didnt see it this bad, and it was the worst ive seen it. The water calmed down to almost glass around 5 which is usual for there.
The blue boat started off moored out in the anchorage but broke free and drifted into shore - luckily it didn't seriously damage another boat on the way in! The wooden dock is just a pick up and drop off spot for local power boats and dinghys, while the fuel dock on the other side was actually closed at this point while it was undergoing a huge overhaul.
Yes, it may seem strange with Trinidad being so far away but tropical storm systems passing to the north do indirectly effect the island, impacting the local atmosphere and weather conditions. As soon as the Ernesto system passed over, it cleared up down here, but from about 2am until 2pm it was rough in Chaguaramas with the southerly wind direction.
@@travelsketchdepending on the weather event we get stuff here. We always get temperature changes in the water depending on the cold front activity and severity in North America. We have even had extreme rough seas two weeks after earthquakes in the pacific.
Simon the mooring guy have 6 working moorings none fail 2 tug drag in calm weather 5pm on startreck the catamaran the mooring held 3 boats until it got nasty.
Looks like the boats in trouble were not in attendance. Not good. I have ridden out some blows like this in Trinidad with no problem. Just be gland that you were not it Grenada/ Carriacou. It just looked real sloppy right and the docks in the harbor. Docks are never a good place in a blow. Thanks for documenting this!
@@marcopolo2749 facts: that night, the coast guard were called about this and other imminent dangers. They said it was "too rough" to help. All the next day, they didn't help either - as various large boats were still drifting just off the docks. Source: I'm in Chaguaramas.
Till the next one arrives ... As stated all those docks need buffering with tyres especially the corners.. Its not the acceleration its the sudden deceleration that does the damage.. boats are safer away from solid objects especially other boats. Sods law says the small sail boat gets worked over inbetween the dock and the wooden fishing boat.
This is pure Click bait. The storm came from the SW which is always bad in Chaguaramas. People should have checked the weather and didn't. Nothing to do with hurricane season or the like. Purely a seasonal storm that happens all the time. This channel is stretching because they are running out of content. Apparently, bashing leopard has run it course. Trinidad is a great place, safe, and friendly. These storms come at this time every year!
I am so far from running out of content that could damage the Leopard brand or Robertson and Caine. This was meant to be a travel channel. Not an expose a shipbuilder's incompetence channel. The viewer feedback and analytics clearly show that people are very pleased with the content, proving you totally wrong on the clickbait label. The title and thumbnail both state "Storm", not Hurricane, learn to read, should TH-cam add a third label option for those who are particularly obtuse? The weather in the video was a direct result of a storm system to the north which became a hurricane, learnt to read weather while you're at it.
Wow! Glad you are all safe! All the best!
These events only cause a mess in this particular anchorage. Stuff on land barely moved. :)

I take it back...I didn't know a tropical storm so far from Trinidad could affect us this much. 😉

It wouldn't have mattered. That dock is fit for purpose. The fishing boat shouldn't have been there.
Great reportage!!!! Well done video. Thrilling but with heart and personality.
Thank you! :) that is what the TH-cam was always meant to be before the boat ruined it.

Not tomato farming! Anyway, I slept through all of that. Roger re-secured the boat at 3am and I didn't wake up until 6am.
Cruisers best not be in that anchorage when the wind hits from that direction....It is a very uncommon event.
@@travelsketch Didn't the same happen when Hurricane Beryl passed through since it was closer than Ernesto?
It was rough during Beryl but not this rough, and despite the huge number of boats in the bay, none broke mooring and drifted ashore.
Feeder band to the storm in the northern islands always comes with a hurricane. The last it was really bad it caused a lot of damage
Wow, thanks for the video
Just happened, better than MSM haha

Crikey!! that looked hectic as
Entertaining night, make the best of it.
We had weather and swell like that when we were there in 2019.

We just went wakeboarding. That's how nice today was.
Blue boat supposed to have a bouy or tires for protection against the jettie

Is that from Ernesto?
It's not even a hurricane yet and quite a bit North of Trinidad.

Can you imagine if it really hit us?
You don't want to. :)
Poor boats, lost and wandering around in the dark
Never thought I'd see boats made of flimsy wood.
Unexpected? What do you mean? Do you guys not have weather or news apps? Or no internet to see the weather?
Well "unexpected" for some. ;)
The 1% boasting aboutt making $460 & 670 millions in 6 months. The damage tothee boats is pocket change.
where is imboat boat?
I live in trinidad
That is just awful. Ugg
😱
Jesus is Lord.....keep safe ....
Coastguard probably took 5 days to reach on their super long 2km journey from the base
Holy smokes
herro :)
It's Trinidad 🇹🇹
Sure is!
I remember this hurricane. It was Hurricane Testicle. As soon as the major brunt of it rolled across your face, BAM! here comes another wave.
In most countries the CG would have come to help move the boats, but our boats, half a mile away, do not work.
what nonsense you talking

The dock is under renovation. This is not the fault of Powerboats.

REPENT..!!!
Jesus is Lord.....it ent doomed yet .....once God move me out of the country then you ll have serious problems here ....
