    4:48 This is incorrect. As referenced on Page 48 of the Core Rulebook, you can only purchase talents from the career level you are currently in. To use your example, if you were to advance to Master Apothecary, you could purchase Bookish, Master Tradesman (Apothecary), Resistance (Poison) and Savvy. You could not purchase any talents from Rank 1 or Rank 2, nor rank 4 (obviously) :)

      Would like to understand the logic behind that 🤔

    • @PoorlyDrawnSmileyFace
      @PoorlyDrawnSmileyFace 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Feelyourbodyallways A number of talent in careers are tied to the type of lifestyle that position has, so a Shipsword Master in more of a leadership role is less likely to develop Strong Back or other River Recruit talents if they don't have it already.
      Also it's game balance. there's now a reason to not immediately leave rank1 as soon as you can, especially since buying talents multiple times has that extra SL for related tests.

      @@Feelyourbodyallways A year late to the party here, but someone who buys their office position in the army does not have the experience of someone who spent 8 years as a foot soldier. They can't retroactively become grizzled veterans by virtue of being in a position of authority. Some things simply cannot be retroactively learned from a position of authority.
      Basically, every career rewards you for actually learning your craft and mastering it. Those who fly up will see short term rewards in status and being able to access more varied attributes/skills/talents, but will never display the practiced ability of those who slowed their advance to actually practice their profession.

      You assume there's logic in this game design. Explain that first

    I am brand new to WFRP and have been finding these bites INVALUABLE. Really. I was very confused but the way you lay it out really helps. Thank you for your time & effort & pizazz
    One little errata, although not important but helps me remember: the backgrounds seem to correspond to BRASS, Silver, Gold

    Good stuff. I played the old WHFRP way back. This seems unecessary complicated but keeping the theme and grim style.

      Spot. On. To me, the grit comes from the narrative. Were the rules a little leaner, things would move a lot faster. That said, I love the mapping between those rules and the lore they’re reinforcing! That takes a lot of work!! Thanks for checking out the channel, Peter! Hey I just subscribed yesterday. thanks for the wfrpg4e content. you do an excellent job of explaining it in "bite" sized chunks. I do have a bit of a gripe with the editing. the voice is rather quiet compared to the intro and outro which means I jump at the end of every video, otherwise keep up the great work!

      N0rbZ Thanks for the feedback! I’ll admit that I noticed that in this episode and others as well. Part of the issue is the sound of my voice makes me want to break things so I always wind up pushing it down in the mix. I’m working on the edit for Endeavors as we speak, though, and vow to fix it. Kind of proud that I got a few jump scares in the meantime! ;)
      Cheers!

      @@MythBrigade Amazing videos, im smashing them all in preparation for a new WFRP game, just what I need! Can only agree with the mixing, voice is v quite compared to the FX and music. Trust me your voice is MUCH easier to listen to then the majority of pen and paper vids out there. Thanks again!

    Mate... I love the content and am reading along in the book...but... a practical example at initial level and then a more advanced level would be super useful as a guide.

    I’m trying to get my head around the levelling up bit! For level 1 you need 5 advances in each of the listed characteristics and you need to purchase all 8 skills and at least 1 talent? I’m sure that’s correct but then you confused me by saying you need 5 advances in the listed characteristics and 5 advances in the skills? So for the skills which is it, 8 or 5?

    • @dewayner5388
      @dewayner5388 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      5 advances in all 8 skills at first level. I assume you figured it out, but this is for someone who also didn't get it

  • @lschantz64
    @lschantz64 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So question, when you advance into either a new class or the next level in the class you are do you get all the talents or access to buy those talents as well as the skills in the new level? You pay the 100 xp to move, and it opens up all the options but does not given them correct? That is the only part of leveling that still confuses me.

    • @Xerilian
      @Xerilian 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When you move to the new career rank (or a new career altogether) you don't get any of the talents. You must purchase all of those talents individually at the appropriate cost (100, 200, 300, etc)

    I think they took the system to amazing levels but the advancement became convoluted. I would have to explain this to players over and over for them to get it.

    Turning down a level change is more like refusing a desk job so you can remain as an active detective.
    I don't find it complex just a bit fiddly. Though I am DM so who cares?

    But could you also learn a skill from your race? I mean after character creation. Like animal care for humans.

    The designers of this system and the authors of the WHFRP rules book should be ashamed of themselves. These are among the vaguest and most poorly written RPG rules I have ever seen, and believe me when I say this, that's a damn high bar. Moving on from this system. There is simply no excuse for this. Hire an editor to scrutinize your text and your system for ease and concision of use, because there's just no excuse for this at all.
