This movie is probably one of the most influential movies I have seen & remember most, from my teenage years. I've often wondered about everyone in the doc and to see all of this, is incredible stuff. I remember being a teenager and actually feeling heavy emotions towards Ping and saw how much of a bad person he was. To see & know, that Arthur, William and everyone for that matter, express their disdain towards him as well, is really good. This is an incredible piece regarding an outstanding documentary.

Man William and Arthur backcourt duo would be sick if William also went to Marshall. Luther Bedford would’ve extended William’s bball career by reducing his offensive load and probably have him focus on scoring and defense while Arthur ran the point. Add Zinnerman as the 6th man and Arthur and William would have more rest and stayed fresh in the end of games.

32:10 The camera guy said it best. Pingatore didn’t bothered helped Arthur in his Sophomore year tuition because he felt Arthur wasn’t going to be a star basketball player. This is why Luther Bedford was a much better coach than Gene Pingatore because he unlike Pingatore, he didn’t care if Arthur became a star. He only cared if his players worked hard to play good team basketball.

This was a phenomenal story on so many levels, my favorite documentary ever, the truth and the reality of the film just made it all that much more relatable and interesting to watch. I remember rooting for both of them to at least make it to college, to not cross that line of quitting and working odd jobs to survive, when they both signed letters I was so happy...and of course William had the curse of his older brother previously dropping out of college. Also, the coverage of how these high schools were recruiting young athletes, and how those athletes are treated after they commit...and are "de-committed" by proxy if they're not playing at a high enough level and have economic hardships...what St. Joe's did to Arthur and his family was bogus. And Coach Bedford's take on the whole situation was quite refreshing, a true public school coach who will teach the kids he's given in his district, not go out trying to make a dream team with alumni dollars to keep the winning going...and as fate would have it, Arthur grew like a sprout, and the whole team could run the floor on anybody...and made it down state. A real reversal of athletic fortune tale, such an interesting and thought provoking film...and what an effort it took to make the whole film.

That’s very cool that they were best friends. I didn’t know that and i’ve see Hoop Dreams many times. One of the shittiest parts of that Doc was when Arthur was gonna sign his letter to attend Jr College and his shitty dad instead of telling his son to do what’s best for him and i’m proud of you etc, that junkie was rambling on about his mom going in the hole to help Arthur. L and all that bullshit. The look on Arthur’s face said it all. His mom should’ve respected his wishes and not even had him there. I didn’t like Arthur’s dad. Not because he had some problems but because he was a piece of shit. Like the scene where he went to see about getting Arthur’s records from St Joes, he’s there trying to hug the guy who he owes money to and won’t release them until they paid something. That’s some fein shit. He was always doing some fein shit. If you’ve ever been around some feins, most of them act like Bo Agee.

Not paying child support etc. William could keep it in his pants and stay faithful to his wife. Much kudos for him! Would like to know if Arthur is gainfully employed in 2021. I imagine William is.
