- Travelling around Pattaya by a Baht Bus or Songtaew is brilliant value at 10 Baht per trip. But now there's a new day out that might be even BETTER value! They've opened two NEW stations on the line from Bangkok and Pattaya down to the coast at Sattahip. And you might not believe how cheap it is! Come along for a fantastic day out from Pattaya, Thailand!
#thailand #pattaya #train
Well done.....just a return trip on the train would be a nice way to spend a few hours. Good to see a vlogger doing something a bit different and interesting rather than the usual robots walking up and down Soi 7 and 8.
Your handling of the local lingo is a credit to you.
Many thanks, Keith. I really appreciate comments like this! You are right; just taking the train there and back would be pleasant enough! The beach is just a bonus. Cheers!
Just came across your channel today and have subscribed. What an introduction to your channel. A beautiful day trip and a super vlog. Well done, I look forward to seeing more.
That's really nice of you to say so! I have quite a few more ideas for videos in the near future, so keep watching and welcome!
These Robots it's all they know. Same thing every week.
Watched this video before my trip to Thailand. After a week in Pattaya, I thought let me try it. So caught the train at the Pattaya Tai station; lovely ride to the South. No one asked for a ticket, so free ride. End of the line 40 baht to the lovely beach. Just enough time for a tasty smoothie and a walk on the beach. Return trip to P town 9 baht. Just wish more time could have been spent in Sattahip.
Thanks for the comment, and I'm glad you found the video useful before you arrived! Sounds like you had a good time!
I really enjoy listening to your Thai and deciphering the signs 👍+1. What an adventure!
That's very nice of you to say so, Andrew !
An interesting video. I live in Sattahip. My pal way back used to to put himself and his bike on the train in Pattaya and I would meet him at Plutaluang station where it terminated. We would to ride to Samae San and then to the what we call 'The Navy Beach. A drop of liquid refreshment and then he caught the train back to Sattahip. Sadly he has gone. There have been many changes over the last thirty odd years. I envy your Thai language skills. To my shame and biggest regret I never bothered. I blame my wife who speaks very good English. That's my excuse anyway. There used to be a Train themed restaurant at the South end of Jomtien Beach years ago. I don't know if it's still there. Keep the videos coming.
What a wonderful comment. Sorry to hear about your friend, but happy memories for you , I'm sure. I went to Samae San a few months ago and shot a video there. Beautiful island. I have a feeling that the restaurant might well still exist!
There's just something fascinating about trains. I took the steam train from Bangkok to Chachoengsao a few weeks ago. Loved that, too!
My Thai should be better than it is, as I've been here a while. But as long as you enjoy what you do, all is good. Thanks again for the comment.
Good video, 👍I like a good train ride. You see soo much more. Oh and I subscribed.
Many thanks for your sub! More train journeys coming soon!
Lord Barrow would be proud of you. Great video.
He's going on the sprinter service tomorrow, apparently! It's the same train we went on to Bangkok, but obviously, in the other direction!
What a nice informative video! Exactly what I'm looking for. The U-Tapao train station is 3 kms away from the airport, but I haven't been able to find how to make the last bit of the journey: I guess via a songthaew.
PS: from a TH-camr to another TH-camr: don't look at your phone, look at the camera objective 😀
Thanks, for the comment, Wanderlust. They did say there was transportation to the airport from U tapao station, but I couldn't put it to the test!. And yes, all tips about selfie recording gratefully received. I don't like doing it tbh!
Thanks, This is another great option.
Cheers, PFI. It certainly makes for a nice day out!
Good choice. Once we expand and upgrade our rail system, I hope people will use train more and more. Subbed !!!
Thanks for the sub! There's no doubt the Thai train system is improving at a fast rate. Obviously a lot of thr benefits are in Bangkok, but big upgrades going South as well that I hope to explore shortly!
Sorry i didn't even know you had a channel, so i subscribed. Great video.
Hey, thanks Danny! Lot's of people don't know that I've got a channel. It's an exclusive club and you're welcome to join! Keep up the good work with the Pocket 3!
Whats the old saying, you learn something new everyday, been visiting Pattaya for over 20 years and never heard of this train, crazy cool, will try it on my next trip. Great video sir.
That's very kind of you to say so. I was shocked when it stopped at Nong Nuch Gardens and the Floating Market. I didn't know that before I got on. You live and learn!
@@balloonchaser I guess someone could get off at Nong Nuch Gardens and visit the park leisurely, and get back to the station before the return trip to Pattaya., then on another day do the same for floating market. I know if you were to visit with an excursion or taxi its really expensive, I have never visited these places been wanting to visit, no more excuse.
@user-jn7sg7pn9p Yes, I think that's exactly right. I think there'd probably be enough time to have a quick look round! Haven't tried it yet, so can't be sure, but it's on my list of things to do! Definitely more fun than being overcharged by a taxi, anyway!
Great discover
Many thanks
I have lived in Pattaya for over a year. I have never used a Baht Bus. As I have NO IDEA where they are going. I use Bolt 100% of the time. I also have not figured out where anything is in Pattaya. It is the hardest place to navigate I have ever been. Street chaos. And I am from Southern Cal. Nothing makes a bit of sense in their street layout,
Thanks! Bolt is great to get around. Quick and not too expensive. But don't give up on the baht buses. The route from South pattaya along second road, up to terminal 21, is really useful. It then goes onto beach road and comes all the way back forming a rectangular route. The sois are number in order one thru to 13. Give it a try!
Try
Just subscribed, great vlog, will definitely be doing that journey, looks like a cheap day out.
Thanks for the sub! Definitely a good day out, without breaking the bank! Enjoy it!
Fantastic cheap day trip.
Yes, Scott. Absolute bargain in my book!
What a really nice and unusual video... much better than the standard fat bloke in Pattaya stuff. Thank you!
That's very kind of you to say so! Although I'm trying to lose a few kilos myself 😀
I really enjoyed this video. I might try this train journey.
Thanks for the positive comment. Do give it a try if you get the chance. I'm sure you'd enjoy it!
Yes that train goes on to Bangkok from Pattaya but its very slow .Takes about 4 hours .I did it in the other direction ,Bkk to Patts
Thanks, Anthony. There's also a sprinter service, which is quicker or less slow! But ,really, Thai trains are more for the experience than speed, I think!
Lovely trip. I love trains. If someone wants the full train experience, then get off at Pattaya Tai, walk down to Sukhumvit and head south. About half a km on the other side of Lotus supermarket there is a small hotel designed to look like an old locomotive. 🚂 Choo choo.
Thanks, I didn't know that! I think I'll have to add that to my list of hotels to review. Sounds fascinating!
@@balloonchaser It has been there many years. It is just the exterior that is made look like a locomotive. The inside has seen better days.
@herrmeistermann2426 Thanks for the tip. I'll take a look! The inside has seen better days...sounds exactly like me!
It's up for rent actually. The train resort. Don't waste your time
Cool video 👍
Thanks, Steve. Appreciate the comment!
Great video. A nice option to kill some time during my yearly visit. Never taken a train to or from Pattaya. The train fare might be only 9 baht. But the motorbike taxi to the station will probably be about 50 to 100 baht. Which is still not bad.
You are spot on about getting to the station. The two 5 minute journey's either end cost more than the one hour+ train ride. As you say, still a nice day out.
Another great vlog BC. I was all excited until I saw the price 555. Train looks clean and comfortable, the beach area looks nice and cool with all the trees around.
Many thanks for the positive comment! Yes, the price was a bit on the high side:-)). Beautiful day out and now Thailand is getting slightly cooler it could be a perfect way to relax!
Wow! Good find and what a nice day trip. Thanks for making the cost updates.
Subcribered!
Many thanks for the sub. Agreed, a great day out for such a bargain price!
@balloonchaser BTW, well done on reading Thai. I'm 11 months into my retirement, and I couldn't begin to identify a letter yet.
Well done ✔️
Thappraya/Jomtien Beach, let's have coffee if you are out and about.
Just keep trying! It's not as difficult as I make it look. You'll get the hang of it, and it's well worth it in the end!
couldn't help myself , had to watch again 5555 .... your thai is pretty good
Thanks, Geoffrey. I'm sure it's good for the channel if you watch more than once! My Thai should be much better, but I keep trying!
im in the throws of selling the house ect and moving to Bang Chang
The staff take pride in the Thai stations😅.
Certainly seems to be the case! Often seen nice shrubs and flowers. I like the old style stations!
Thanks for your very interesting video, its something i would never have thought of. Will arrange a day out next week.
Thanks for your comment. Many people don't know about it yet! It's a pleasant day out. I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
@@balloonchaser sure I will thanks.. out of Interest how did you find out about this. I'm looking around but can't find time tables, or any info.
@Davidsplace19 I saw a photo on Facebook (which there's a small clip of in the video), but the big problem is it's only in Thai language. So Facebook probably only shows it to thais and people like me who have searched for rail trips before. I did a steam train trip from Bangkok a few weeks ago!
@@balloonchaser ok I will look around. I did try Thai railways but the site won't come up, just blank. As it is, your video gives enough info to get started, I reckon if we turn up around 10am at the station it will be enough time to sort things out.
Yes, plenty of time at 10.00am
Great
Many thanks!
I wish I had seen this sooner! I'll be flying out tonight but I hope to remember this when I return. Thanks!
That's a pity! The service to the new stations only started about a week ago. But the good news is, it will still be here when you return!
very clean trains
Yes, old rolling stock but clean! Even basic toilets on board
Quality vlog, subscribed.
Thanks a lot for the sub!
Nicely done,,thanks for the tips and advice and thanks for sharing..
Thanks for leaving a comment. Appreciated!
new subscriber,enjoyed your train trip.

Thanks for the sub, Chris, and welcome aboard!
good video

great video...cheers 😊
Thanks for your comment!
Hi hi. Thank you very much for sharing. I must go to Sattihip during my next visit using train
Yes, you should go there! I'm sure you'd have a great time exploring!
Lovely journey
Many thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!
Great to hear you speaking Thai
I must apologise to any Thai people for my pronunciation, but the most important thing is to try! Thanks for the comment!
Perfect can't wait to get on it in February
Not long to wait! I'm sure you'll enjoy it! Weather should be lovely in February!
This could be a preparation for the high-speed train that will connect the 2 airports in Bkk with U-tapao
Yes, that may well be true. But I was told that the lines will separate before Utapao airport, and they'll be a direct link to the airport itself. At the moment, the Utapao stop is miles away from the actual airport, unfortunately.
enjoyed this thanks ,i know u tapao did do international flights i went to Singapore from there but seems mostly domestic flights these days sadly .
Glad you enjoyed it! I have travelled from utapao to both Samui and Phuket. They also have a service to Chiang Mai, I think. Internationally they fly to Dubai (last I checked), and I know some charters come in from Russia. That's about it, at the moment! But I think in the future it will become an important Thai airport, especially if the high speed rail link opens! Thanks, again!
great vid. Did you make a video when you visited the warship?
No, because last time I tried to get on a warship at Sattahip, they said "no foreigners" and barred me. This time I didn't even try, but the Thai people couldn't get on because the ship officers were on their lunch breaks! Strange, but true!
I will have to try this out for sure.
Yes, try it! It's not difficult to do, it's cheap, and above all, it's fun!
thank you
My pleasure, Peter.
That's Had Nang Lam, I think. Used to be free and nearly empty, except on weekends
Yes, that's the place. Still not quite sure why we had to pay to get in. You'd think the traders would want to make it as easy as possible! Although the ticket said something about maintenance costs. Nice place to visit, anyway!
That looks like a pretty nice beach. I thought most of Sattahip was naval land and beaches, so doesn't surprise me they charge foreigners more, same as Nong Nooch do, etc
Thanks, Paul. Even though the amounts are largely insignificant, you probably know I'm not a fan of dual pricing! It seems so unnecessary to wind people up!
Yes a good way to get to the floating market which i beliveve is still no charge to get in....
I think no charge or nominal charge with a thai drivers licence last time I went. But dual pricing for tourists which isn't really my thing tbh.
Wonderful report. Thanks so much. Now I know there are 2 stations down town, maybe I will take the train back to Bkk. Do you know what time that leaves the 2 stations in Pattaya, please?
I will stay in Mercure hotel, which is I think in Pattaya north. Which station downtown woyld I go to to catch the train to Bkk?
Once again, thanks for your beautiful report.
From Pattaya North I think you'd be better off going to the main Pattaya railway station, rather than Pattaya South. The 3rd class train to Bangkok leaves at 14.20 from Pattaya. It would be a few minutes earlier from Pattaya South. I believe there's also a sprinter service from Pattaya leaving at 16.25. That's a faster journey time of about 2 hours. Worth checking all this at the station incase it changes, but that's what I was told!
Good job on the video thanks for that. Does the train go to Bangkok airport before it goes into the city?
My pleasure! It doesn't actually go to the Suvanabhumi Airport station. I think the nearest it goes might be Lad Krabang Station, which is on the Airport Link line. You'd have to change trains though.
Noong Nuch is after Sth Pattaya!
I don't know why I was surprised when the train stopped there. Never even considered that I could get a train to Nong Nuch or the floating market. But there we have it. Never stop learning! Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for the video, very interesting. Do you know if you can take a bicycle on that train?
Thanks, John. I was told that you CAN take a bicycle on this train. In fact in the video there was one guy in the background in full lycra cycling gear! Would be a great option to take a bike.
Many years ago, I travelled to Hualumphong from Plutaluang Station (the old end of the passenger line). You should know that a freight line was originally built into Sattahip Navy Port from Plutaluang, but it fell into disuse by the time I travelled from Plutaluang. So now they have obviously reopened the freight line for passenger trains. Partly, I imagine because they recently started a roll-on roll-off ferry from Sattahip to Songkhla. Let me know if this is still running, if you find out. And perhaps also the port might be used for commercial freight in future. Then, as someone else has already said, the future fast airport line might run to the new station with a spur running into the actual airport. I would guess also that people who want to travel to Sattahip town centre would probably alight at the new airport station. The train service you saw is possibly a continuation of the old Bangkok to Plutaluang service; but I believe there is also a new Sprinter train service to Plutaluang, opened quite recently. At a rough guess, that service will now also travel to the new Chuk Samet Station, but let me know if that is a pie in the sky notion!? ;-) There used to be just one Thammada train a day from Bangkok to Plutaluang. And a return service. Hopefully that is now two services a day with the Sprinter; although knowing SRT, it is unlikely to exceed two until the 3 airport railway is finished. I have seen some video evidence that there is some early preparation for that route going on in Bkk right now. But it will be slow, as ever.
This is a fascinating comment. Many thanks. It's right that they are using the old freight line, but they've added 2 new stations and put a passenger service on it.
At the moment there's only the one 3rd class carriage service operating daily. But at weekends the sprinter service also comes from Bangkok and gives a much longer stay at Chuk Samet.
I saw the ferry terminal but I'm told that the service to the south including samui has been suspended.
Whatever the exact situation, the future looks bright for this are as is part of the development corridor and of course the high speed rail link and airport is a major part of that. Exciting times ahead!
@@balloonchaser OK, I didn't know the Sprinter was only at weekends. I am not too surprised that the ferry has been suspended. Probably a slight case of grandious thinking by the ferry operators, but SRT are rather used to living in lean times. And reducing freight costs is what most global rail projects are really about these days. Our expectations should probably remain modest. I've been hearing about high speed rail projects in my neck of the jungle for decades. They always crop up everywhere at election time and then completely fizzle out. I expect double tracks will arrive at the end of this decade, but with very few extra long haul passenger trains. I"d love to see more day trains, so I can stop having to drive long distances to see any scenery.
@tsl56 One bit of good news is Dual track elevated section opening up later this month reducing travel time between Bangkok and Hua Hin by an hour, and the far south by several hours. I know some foreigners who are working on the high speed link project who swear it's definitely happening. I'll believe it when I see it!
@@balloonchaser There are now a lot of cab rides of the double tracks that show that they have now reached Chumporn, but the trackside equipment is still not finished, whereas North of Hua-hin, trains have even started running across the new railway suspension bridge at Ratburi or Petburi. I can never remember which is which. But as far as I know the service to HH will start sometime in December. But I am a lot further South than Chumporn. The plans are in, but they will be lucky to get to the Malaysian border by the end of the decade.
@tsl56 Many thanks for the interesting info. My first job in Thailand was in Ratchaburi; would have been great to have the faster route to Bangkok back then! But I guess all these upgrades will be worth the wait in the end.
The faster journey time to Hua Hin starts on December 15th. At least I hope it does, because I've bought my ticket already!
Good and informative vlog, BC, would be interesting to know the exact location of Pattaya South Railway Station. Somewhere near Jomtien?
Thanks, mate. It's actually over by Khao Talo on the Darkside. It's 3km from the thepprasit night market. Luckily, Bolt and Grab have the stations on their apps, I think. Otherwise, I'd be lost!
Great Video, do you know the name of the beach you arrived at. Or even the location on google maps? Thanks.
The name of the beach Nang Ram Beach. maps.app.goo.gl/RdYmwjjXNt1idesK6
Thought I heard 1:05PM the train goes back to Pattaya. Is that the only and last train going back? or they have more in the afternoon?
Unfortunately there's only one train in each direction during the week. So not much time at the destination. However art the weekend there's another sprinter train (which would give you about 5 hours at the beach). Or combine the two and get around 2-3 hours at beach. I hope they add more trains in future to this line. One a day each way is not enough!
Do they allow push bikes on that train? (I saw a Thai guy in the picture with a helmet on behind you). Thanks
Yes, they do. But it's probably worth checking if they accept folding bikes or standard bikes.
Nice one mate I will check out the frequency of service(s) as an hour at the beach is not much given how quiet it looks. Well done with the Thai mate they do appreciate the effort although "mistakes" do get made!
Thanks. There's a Sprinter train number 997 that only runs at weekends. That gives 5 hours (I think) at the final destination.
The train I went on runs every day, but unfortunately, only once and gives you a short amount of time on the beach. Hope that makes sense!
did you notice any cheap accommodations near the beach? @@balloonchaser
@allencoffland1685 Thanks. Good question. The true answer is I didn't see anything. I had checked Google before and saw Chuksamet Lodge. Pictures and reviews were mixed and last review long time ago. There's a sprinter train at weekends which gives more time to explore. Might take another look!
Great job B C, only problem is travelling 3rd class you might bump into Mr Egg
Cheers, BB. I think since he sold milk he's travelling first and business class only! Well, if the travel agent doesn't scam him, of course!
Interesting video.Apart from the brilliant Sky Train in Bangkok I don't understand why Thailand doesn't have a modern train network ?
Good point. I'm guessing it's the decades of under investment at state level that are responsible. Thr skytrain is a highly profitable private company. Looking on the bright side, more recently, the government does seem to be trying to update the rail system. But it will take a long time.

Corruption and useless red tapes laws. Auto industry. Chinese built high speed train in Loas and Indonesia in 2-5 years, but Thailand takes 15 +years

3rd class from BKK to Hua Hin is miserable and at times seems to slow down for every cat along the way. Short trips only.
I do agree with you, but from 15th December, the trip from Bangkok to Hua Hin will be reduced to 'only' 3 hours because they're opening a new twin track line! Whether it actually takes 3 hours...watch this space!

I can't find any details for service
What details do you want? Where are you departing from? It's a brand new service so the details aren't widely publicised yet.
Jelly fish stung be at that beach last month . Beware.
That's a top tip, thanks. I recently went from a Bang Saray hotel to a local island (video on this channel), and I couldn't believe how many jellyfish there were. I certainly don't need to be stung by one!
We used to have a large Air Force base at Utapao plus 7 other large bases around Thailand..those my friends were the good old days…no one needed tourists they had American Government Issued people with money..Sol we don’t have any bases there now..take care and enjoy..
Sounds like you have great memories to look back on! I guess times change. Those arriving for the first time will love it, just like we did years ago. Thanks for your comment!
@@balloonchaser you are very welcome my friend..Thailand back in the day had a lot of small roads compared to what you have now..cities are so advanced also..compared to what we had in past decades..Glad you speak the language and able to get around well..
@frankkie3849 I have to admit I, too, look back fondly on how it used to be. But we can't stand in the way of 'progress'. There's still so much of this country I haven't seen, and probably still large areas that are relatively 'unspoilt'. My aim is to explore more.
Like trains from the 1950's when these carriages were probably made
You might be right there, Clive. I do kind of prefer the experience to the 'newer' air-conditioned carriages they have on some Thai trains, though!

ผมคิดว่าทางนี้ถูกมากครับ
I do wish especially the English among you would go to the trouble to pronounce Pattaya correctly. it is Pat tay a {not Pattia. don't take my word for it, look it up
I read it in thai and pronounce it the best I can. Thanks.
Nice day out indeed.
Nang Ram Beach....I always find it frustrating the way so many words are translated into English. A better "English spelling would be Nung Rum* Beach to pronounce the name as it sounds in Thai (Hart Nung Rum หาดนางรำ).......maybe this came about because of the early French influence in Siam....maybe this spelling makes sense in French.......I have a few french speaking friends living here in Thailand and I've never thought to ask them about this.....I shall!!!!!!
*Rum
Who wouldn't want to visit Rum Beach :) could be a great marketing ploy changing the English spelt name :)
Yes, nice day out really! I sometimes think the English translation of Thai words is done to guarantee no English speak has a chance of saying the words correctly! Well, that's one of my long list of excuses for mullering the language, anyway! Renaming or rebranding is always a good idea. Form an agency and charge a fortune for it! Thanks for the comment.
Train in Thailand is cheapest in the world.
I can believe that. Amazing value, really!
I don't think the Baht buses are cheap. The Unixx bus is way better. You also get all the gossip and banter. This train must be losing money. They need to come up with a dual pricing structure soon. If this still exists when I come back, I will definitely take this journey. It's a cheap way to get to tourist attractions. I spent plenty to get to both in the past.
Yes, David. Great way to get to Nong Nuch and the floating market. And the stop down by the beach in Sattahip is nice for a change. Not sure the new stop at Utapao is very practical, though!
The Baht bus is 10 baht, That is cheap !
@PREPFORIT Can depends where you're going to and from. Sometimes they want 20baht from Le Pub area to go North, if from Jomtien.
I have gotten baht buses all the way to Naklua too. Basically is limited to 2nd road North, Beach road South, Buakhao and up Pattaya Tai then to Jomtien and Naklua, not sure about Pattaya Nua to bus terminal. So it wasn't much use when I stayed near 3rd road.
The Unixx bus is 0 Baht. Walking is 0 Baht. The baht bus varies between 10-20 and whatever they will try to fleece people for. I rarely if ever use them as a consequence.@@PREPFORIT
@@PREPFORIT I don't think the locals agree with that.
I refuse to go in to these places that have double pricing
I dislike dual pricing. That's why I made a video about dual pricing on this channel. It's not the amounts that are important. It's just so unnecessary!
