Your video reminds me of the time I lived in Nigeria .And as an oyinbo, I also used an umbrella every day to shade myself from the sun.Greetings from China
Wow you’ve lived here before? The sun here this year was just insane 😂 Do you sometimes miss Nigeria? Because when I went back home, even with the comfort and convenience readily available, I missed it!! Haha By the way, don’t be kidding me!! fayrouz is always my go-to soda here!!! Wow
@@babeyeahsweetie I lived in Ibadan most of last year (exchange student at the University of Ibadan) and sometimes came to Lagos. I do miss living in Nigeria, even I got excited the other day when I smelled the familiar perfume in the school building (I later found out there was an international student class nearby). In those days it was common for me to walk from school gate to Amala Skye in bodija market to dine (it seems lagos has a branch of theirs too, you can try it, I think it's delicious) and haggled with the keke drivers in the school. When I was on my walks, I often got bike drivers whistling at me asking if I want a ride, maybe they were not used to seeing people walking on the road just for exercise. Last week, I was having dinner with an scholar from Nigeria, I said every time i tried Maltina I gave up but loved fayrouz, he said he loved maltina not fayrouz at all, hahaha, I loved that. Subtle preferences make me feel like I'm very local. also I listen to afrobeats, I follow you because of your cover songs!
@@susanl3902 Wow your reply is full of interesting stories!! Thank you so much for sharing your story like an old friend. I was talking about Fayrouz with Victor and then remembered I was drinking it in the video hahaha I love that fruity fresh flavour, and Maltina I almost threw up too hahaha; he loves it and I find the taste very strange 🤣 Wow, I never heard of an exchange student to Lagos.... Why would you have come to Nigeria for an exchange? (Me, I went to China for exchange by the way haha) Can I ask which area you're living? Also How did you walk around as a woman and take keke like that? I don't think I can even try that alone without Victor, hmm.... Is Ibadan safe like that? I've been there too but... also, Ibadan air quality, is it okay for a casual walk? hmm very interesting! Wow, you even listen to afrobeats hahahaha You continue to shock me line after line. I love their music, me that never liked noisy music.. Their music will go far more globally soon, I think - although I already felt it when I was in Korea, listening to Ayra Starr's music in Zara store 😂 Wow, Amala Skye? I will definitely search and perhaps make a video there trying some local food. What do you recommend? 😁 Pleaes if you have IG, talk to me, so we can share stories freely :)
@@babeyeahsweetie I majored in African Studies, and my African studies programme was more like fieldwork than an exchange, but I did get into a graduate programme with local students.(*^ワ^*) Why did I adopt this lifestyle? Maybe I prefer to travel independently, so I was good at instantly assessing the safety of my surroundings? There are also some word-of-mouth experiences among Chinese graduate students who have been to Africa, such as it is possible to do this and it is better not to do that, which can be a reference for me.(◍ ´꒳` ◍)They almost always come to Africa alone as well. I came into contact with some Chinese businessmen living in Nigeria and their view of Nigeria is totally different from ours, the company provides high class accommodation, food and transport, all of which protects them and their fear of the locals very well. . Perhaps the way in which one enters the country brings a different way of understanding. Ibadan is a very peaceful city, most of my walks happen when I walked to malls that were not particularly far (2km?), haggling happened when I know exactly the price and get hiked up because I'm an oyinbo, and the keke driver, like any ordinary person who realised that the little trick has been blown, fed back with a natural reaction of laughter, and sometimes started chatting because of it. I have also travelled alone on Danfo in Lagos. of course, I need to plan my walk in advance and show total confidence in it.(◔◡◔)
