    I built this about a year ago, did not like the roof, so made my own roof tiles, with modelling clay, and went for a damaged burnt roof look, I also plastered the walls, except the upper section with the woodwork showing in the roof, which also received the burnt roof look, with the missing plaster work as burnt debris below in the road.

      Overall what did you think of the kit? I feel they need a LOT of work to look anything like the advertised images

      At first i did not think much of it, but I enjoyed turning it into a decent looking house for my diorama. The main thing was the experience gained, this winter my diorama building will be scratch built. . @@ModelNerd

      I feel very much the same - the experience gained let me to believe I could build something similar from scratch

    As always another bit of inspiration for some blue foam and other bits.
    Loooking forward to seeing how this one finally ends up.

      Thanks Paul. It's giving me a bit of a beating at the moment I'm afraid - the foam texture isn't great but my attempt at adding a plaster face wasn't either. Oh well, I will persevere :)

    *I saw some adverts from SM HQ on Instagram but not a full video of theirs products, this house seems to be an easy build and also easy to "destroy" and to make it a ruin. Thanks a lot MN!*

      I just saw that Night Shift's video this week was about carving foam for buildings. I haven't seen the video yet but I can't imagine it will be anything other than excellent.

    Interesting video, interesting building! Unusual it’s a complete 4 sided house, opposed to the usual 3 sided kits, with scope to create an interior. But like you say it’s something to get the imagination going….The roof looks fiddly, not just in construction, but accessing the parts too. I think it’ll look cool though once it’s completed, worth all the effort! Be interesting to see how it turns out, disappointing however there’s no image or box art you can relate to.
    The stencils look good too, definitely something you could use….

      Thanks mate. Yep, I've been having fun experimenting with it over the last few days. The image on the right of the thumbnail is supposedly of the finished building (I didn't find it until after the video had been rendered and was uploading) - but it will take a lot of work to get it looking like that, I think!

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Neil. I'm not sure what to do - leave the back off is definitely an option, but do I want to build a full interior for it? I might build a partial interior - something like a corridor that is visible via the windows, but block the rest of the interior space off. Not sure yet.

      @ModelNerd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks mate. Yes, I agree that it is not a top-shelf kit. Then again, it isn't a top-shelf price either. Looking back at the old vacu-formed Miniart building kits, they also needed a lot of work (though in a different way). I do have (somewhere) a lovely plaster building kit from DioDump - like so many other things it is on my Todo list! :)

    I’m starting a new diorama it would really help if you could tell me the dimensions of the house as well as the doors/windows so I get the scale right

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem! It is 125mm (windows side) by 140 (door side). To the attic floor is 180mm and to the highest point of the roof is 240mm. The chimney is about 50mm higher than that. Good luck with your diorama! :)

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure. The windows are 51mm high by 24mm wide (inside measurements of the actual opening). The frames are an extra 2mm on each side.
      The door is 70mm high and 38mm wide.

    Pretty sure the kit is not supposed to represent a whole building, looks like it cuts off at the fourth wall with the half door and uneven roof.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The image on the right in the thumbnail is what it is supposed to look like after building(!). I found it on their website after I had made the video. It'll take a lot of work to finish it like that. The half door thing is very odd.

    • @markfergerson2145
      @markfergerson2145 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ModelNerd Is it perhaps supposed to represent one of a set of row houses whose neighbors have been blown up? That half-door could represent a shared door.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I think that might be it

  • @allanrichards6448
    @allanrichards6448 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can see the potential for the house but unfortunately it seems rather out of scale with the doors especially being narrow and possibly the windows as well. Also the roof construction is entirely wrong. The rafters that form the triangle of the roof should not be notched for the tile battens. The battens are on top of the rafters. Also there should be a wooden wall plate on top of the wall with ceiling beams forming the bottom of the rafter "triangles". Finally at the top of the roof triangle there should be a ridge beam. I say this also because to have done it more to scale would be easier than all the notching they have done. The roof tiles also look rather rubbish, there must be better ones on the market if you are going to make this into a diorama.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Allan, I think the notches in the battens and rafters are for ease of construction rather than realism - just like pins etc for lining up parts in plastic kits. When I add a floor I'll be adding ceiling beams to support it (no floor is provided with the kit). I'm not sure what it is about doors and windows - the MiniArt vacuum formed building kits get these massively wrong as well. You'd think it'd be one of the easier things to get right!
