    Very nice work, it's good to see classic cars that can be in daily use and still look so original. Love the analogue battery meter, it's in keeping with the original style. Excellent!

    Restoration videos get a lot of views. People love to watch an old car being torn down and restored in 30 minutes. The videos you make are great. Seeing the car restored and converted in time lapse would be awesome.

    This is gorgeous. I don't know why I feel the need to mention that, as a teen in 1974-75 I had a 1965 bus in green. I bought it for $600. That little bus took my friends and I on many fun filled adventures around Long Island and upstate New York. The stock look is the best look to my eye on these resto-mods, whether gasoline or electric. I'm looking forward to seeing many more iconic and stylish cars from the past being revived with electric power (which, by the way, will only really be "green" when we go New-Generation Nuclear for our electric power.)

    Not saying I hate it, but a massive part of their character is the air cooled engine
    These things were mostly a hobby for enthusiast's, keeping an old air-cooled motor throbbing is something to be proud of, putting electric motors in them seems a strange idea, yeh you can argue the eco point but these aren't daily drivers, the sound of air-cooled motors and smell of long duration cams is the point in having one isn't it?

    Well if they weren't so expensive and had more range I'd love one of those. Have to admit this van looks incredible. But the main reason I'd want one is to travel around through Europe. Unfortunately with this limited range this would mean I'd be spending the majority of my travel time at a charging station.

    My first 3 cars, in the 80's were VW buses. I bought them because that's all I could afford at the time (all under $1500 back then) and they were the only thing on the market with some cargo space. At the risk of being chastised by everyone here, they were not the funnest cars to drive. Had to change the engine and or the transmission every other year; the breaks weren't so great; and the infamous starter motor (those who ever owned one these can relate). Alas, these old clunkers were the best of their kind on the market, because non of the other automakers had the imagination to make a better version. My question is, why would it make any sense to spend $20K-$50K+ to have an old VW electrified clunker (or worst gas engine) when you could have a Cybertruck or something similar for more or less the same price? Performance or not, I think you'll an AC and an electric window with the Cybertruck. Way back then, where these vans could be had for $1000 or a little more, not body wanted them, because there were junk. Why everybody wants one now that they are so much more money?
    VW if you are listening, build a new (but well-made version please) e-bus for under $35K and you might have a winner.

    Canadians call deer whistles deer atractors lol they say they make all of the deer near the road panic and running all directions including across the road in front of your car. A Canadian friend of mine put them on his new car and within two weeks he hit a deer so he added two more deer whistles only weeks later he hit another deer and totaled the car. He was 50 had lived in Canada all his life and never hit a deer.

    • @AR-zq9hq
      @AR-zq9hq 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A solar panel that would take the entire roof would probably give 2-3 miles of range if it sat in the sun all day. So, kind of pointless.

  • @captlarry-3525
    @captlarry-3525 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    try some sound deadening material used in yacht and boat engine enclosures. power train need not be that loud. My approach to this would be to use an entire leaf drivetrain, and marry it to the swing axles.. making a vanagon with CV Joints a better recipient, than the older vw bus with its swing arm transaxle and reduction gear boxes...although I know you are following a VW conversion path that goes back to the 1960's . The construction of the bus and vangon allows the batteries to go between frame members under the floor, which is a very good thing in a tall vehicle with high ground clearance. The improved suspension, and brakes of the vanagon.. and the lower cost compared to the vulture culture surrounding the old style bus.. all favor the vanagon. but it's all good. grew up with 36 hp vws bugs and buses...

    It’s definitely easy to imagine vehicles like this could be the wave of the not so distant future. It would be great to know if people have requisition one or two of them since you uploaded this video. My question is, could you hypothetically include autonomous propulsion systems that VW was exploring for the I D concept cars? I am asking as a disabled US citizen (legal blindness) that is barred from obtaining drivers documentation.
    My father who drove a microbus in the 60s mentioned that they were particularly hazardous because of the single layer of chassis between the driver seat and the open air. Is there a way of cushioning the inside?
    Listening to your channel introduction, my head went straight to Dan Aykroyd saying “switch me on“.

      @bonnierodgers 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2
