Somewhere on an alternate Earth...RDJ is a black guy and he plays a white guy...
+Angelo Roque And he gets a Razzie nom insted of an Oscar nom (?
Oh my
And he play War Machine instead of Iron Man.
Now that I think about it dozens of actors and actresses could probably play black people
No, they can't. This only worked because it was a parody of the pretentious method actor and RDJ did a good job, no one would forgive an actual portrayal of a white person playing a black person. It's taking that satirical approach for a reason.
“I can’t feel my legs”
....
“Ain’t nothin’ but a thing” 😂
..thang.
Stellvia Hoenheim g strang.
"Hamburger Hill" reference. LOL!
some of these convos make no sense 🤣
I'm black and I took that personally haha. Love this movie! 🤣👏🏼✌🏼
"He ain't playin god.......He's being judged by him!" Lol, I'm dead.
So is the director
THIS MOTHERFUCKERS DEAD!!!
Dustin Foster hey, you wanna get on the train or do you want to ruin another day?
@@BlackDiamond2718 I'm 2 years+ late but this is probably my favorite line of the movie.
The fact he STAYED in character throughout the whole DVD commentary is amazing!
@nedkelly3436I need to check it out
" I don't drop character until I done the DVD commentary"......XD! outta this world funny.
What's even more funny is that he actually does the dvd commentary for this movie as Lincoln Osiris
+Robert27971
Yeah and it was FREAKING funny!
Robertrr23 hands down best role RDJ ever played.
This is the most ridiculous role I've ever seen him play it's the best
DillyDyson007 Actually Before him, other people were nominated for comedic parts, Gene Wilder in The Producers, Madeline Kahn in Blazing Saddles, Charlie Chaplin in The Great Dictator.
That tobey cameo was fucking precious lol
Boo
Spiderman ❤ Ironman
I think you mean “MTV Movie Award Best Kiss Winner Tobey Maguire” 😂
@@foreseengust,,
I thought that was Eminem the first time I saw it lmao
I actually thought it was a black actor that ive never seen before.
Fat Idiot same
Rdj can chameleon
Lee J same, hell I didn’t even recognize Tom Cruise
@@Thomas20Smith na man, les Grossman is the actor who plays a character called Tom Cruise
@@Thomas20Smith I had no idea that was Tom cruise until the end credits it wasn't until I seen the movie again that I couldn't unsee it
As a black dude myself: I have nothing but the greatest appreciation for RDJ’s tour de force here. He hit all the right notes even though he was walking a precarious line there, but he made me believe he was black. I laughed my ass off since this shit was funny on so many levels and still is. Fact that he took it there -and beyond- almost makes me proud since he is clearly homaging black cinema heroes through Osiris, while in the movie stereotypes are stacked upon stereotypes and the satire of it is layered so thick on top it all. Anyone offended by this needs to lighten up (pun intended)
as a black man...yup
As a retarded dude, I have nothing but the greatest appreciation for BS's tour de force. He hit all the right notes even though he was walking a precarious line there, but he made me believe he was retarded. I laughed my ass off since this shit was funny on so many levels and still is. Fact that he took it there almost makes me proud since he is clearly homaging retarded cinema heroes through Jack, while in the movie stereotypes are stacked upon stereotypes and the satire of it is layered so thick on top it all. Anyone offended by this needs to fart in a bathtub (pun intended)
It really helps that:
>Ben Stiller did due diligence by having a screening of Tropic Thunder with the Los Angeles chapter of the NAACP, in which they found it hilarious.
>Brandon T. Jackson's character was there to call out the absurdity of the situation (with comedic effect LMAO 🤣) such as when Downey's character goes on an in-character tangent about San Antonio crawfish and Brandon's character makes a mockery out of it.
and
>It's not a literal blackface minstrel act
Yeah and whoever is offended doesn't realize that it's not rdj doing black face. They're mocking the entire practice of black face by having a ridiculous 5 time Oscar winner playing a guy in black face who it may even be one layer deeper than that but I can't remember
@@TonyDanza4Lyfe also mocking method actors going over the top of "getting into characters"
"I don't read the script the script reads me"
"...what does that even mean?"
Thats the power of the Phrase lol :D
Matt Chan deep
That is how Robert Downey Jr. became an actor
Only Daniel Day-Lewis knows
Probably mean that he's improvise and didn't follow the script

@@CherryBlossomOhka that was after he found the set weird and might actually be real but being true to his word he doesn't break character before doing the dvd commentary.

Cracks me up every. single. time.
@@carlosmoran1366 same 😂☠️
I almost forget that it's Robert Downey Jr when I watch this movie, he is so convincing as a black dude lo.
Unlisted Link
Extremely close actually.
Wrong on all points
Unlisted Link "His voice doesn't sound it"? oh well shit! why don't you elaborate on how black people's voice sound? Go ahead. Describe how an entire race of people sound like.
@Unlisted STFU, he sounds black, don't tell me what I can and can't hear. Idiot
Unlisted Link This is true. I've noticed that a lot of white people think that RDJ looks authentically black, though I guess that is what make-up were aiming for.
"Stop tailgatin' me ya pasty teabag!"
"Man I don't dropped character until I've done the DVD commentary" LMAO
the best part is he did the commentary in chatacter. also there's a funny fake video of him with ptsd on youtube
where I can find these videos?
+Steamed Kappa With Soy yes it was hilarious lol
Key words, until I've DONE the DVD commentary. Meaning he'll stop acting POST commentary 👌🏽
"I don't drop character until I've done the DVD Commentary" is probably the Hardest thing an Actor could say. Especially after their director just dies
Can't believe this was Robert Downey Jr.!
To this day it shocks me
Max Frankow I still have a hard time believing that Tom Cruise is that fat guy
Bryon Letterman lol same
I was a kid when I first saw it and never knew it was Downey. When I first heard that it was him I was like “you’re telling me the guy who played iron man also played the black guy in tropic Thunder? Yea right.”
Max Frankow same I couldn’t tell that’s him
Robert Downey Jr is literally the ONLY white guy who can actually get away with black face and NOT make it offensive at all, because the man is THAT damn good
Yep
At some point, watch the DVD commentary. His quote about not dropping character until the commentary is true, he keeps it up the entire time. quite possibly funnier than the entire movie.
Jack Ort I agree I actually watch it and not the movie cuz it's so funny lmao
I concur!
My favorite part of the commentary is when the movie starts and he's like "Hey the movie's starting, everybody shut the fuck up!"
imma keep it at 666 likes
Where can I get it!
I was 26 when I saw this. It was a great year. Last time I remember being truly happy. I miss those days. Good memory lane!
Robert Downey Jr the dude playing a dude disguised as another dude.
Technically, Kirk Lazarus is the dude playing a dude disguised as another dude. RDJ is the dude playing a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude.
The dudes are emerging
Hilarious🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Jason Kamil Dudeception BWAW!
The dude abides maaaayn
“I don’t drop character till I do the DVD commentary.”
Holyshit, whenever I'm depressed I just come watch RDJ in this movie. Funniest thing is that Ben Stiller said in Time magazine in 2008 that Robert wasn't actually scripted, he improvised 99% of the entire movie because he was funnier than what had been written. LMAO!
That makes it even more awesome
I don't read scripts, scripts read me.
+adnelg319 I can't tell you how much I laughed at that part I'm not sure why but it really did tickle me
you are 100% right because right now I'm in college and I'm studying for finals and I'm stressed out and all I'm doing is watching this" black guy "and laughing
you can tell, his lines are so off the wall. "there werent no cellphones in '69 im head to toe legit baby" lmao
Downey should have won an Oscar for this role!
He was nominated same year as Heath Ledger for Dark Knight so he had no chance alas
"Is your character dyslexic?"
"No the character isn't dyslexic..."
[interrupts] "So you a cartographer?" XD hahahahaha
For 400 years.
I never burst out laughing that hard, that suddenly.
Before i knew who RDJ was, I thought this was a real black guy
DUDE ME TOOO!!!
Same with Tom Cruise.
Me too
@@ElliottsCreations I didn't realize that was Tom Cruise until the second time I watched it.
I watched this movie when I was 10 without my parents knowing and I thought he was actually black
First time I watched it, I didn't realise it was Tom Cruise playing Les Grossman. I was totally impressed finding out. RDj did brilliantly. I don't get tired of Tropic Thunder.
Same here!
Excellent cast... But Robert Downey, and Tom Cruise stole it.
Tom didnt steal shit.
Love jack black in this movie also.
@Black Dragon Descends Tom was alright. RDjr was truly hidden with talent.
I think jack black and rdj stole it. I think it’s jack blacks best character
@Last Earthbender The funniest fucking line in the movie!
"Wherever he is.. looks like he's all over ther place.."

It's like a priest version of broke back mountain lol
If i had a dollar for every time some asshole associated an actor with an MCU character and used it in some lame joke
I don't feel good Mr Stark...
Pizza Time
"Stupid-Ass Jack" gets me every time
If you watch the commentary on blu ray, he's still in character. XD
xD
And the dvd.
Lmfao
"MTV Movie Awards Best Kiss Winner... Toby McGuire" 🤣💀
"Get your Detroit juice box jherri curl ass in this chicken shit chop chop ASAFP!"
I know the highlight of this movie were RDJ and Cruise, but the whole cast was on point and damn hilarious with Jack Black, Stiller, McConaughey, Brandon T, Baruchel, even down to Maguire's few seconds on screen, hands down the best action comedy ever made.
This movie is so awesome. It was made just to take the piss out of Hollywood.
A national treasure
Try to find “Burn, Hollywood Burn” -another great movie that skewers the Hollywood film business...
Genuinely one of the best comedic performances of all time. It's just so absurd but he owns it.
"He ain't playin' God. He's being judged by Him." Best line in the whole movie, hands down!
Naw it's you been talking to me this whole time.
Lol. I think that line went over some heads
RDJ showing method acting in this movie. Becoming the part at all times. Fantastic job.
The way he assumes a martial arts stance as soon as the director explodes is fucking hilarious
Never caught that lol
Thanks for pointing that out!
😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 I didnt even catch that until now.
“I’m a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude!” -Kirk Lazarus.
I was laughing so hard when ben stiller kept getting shot and wouldnt die.
Eddie Thomas survive !
God that look on RDJ’s face when he says “survive” kills me
D G lmao i couldn’t stop laughing
This. Every time I watch this movie and see Ben Stiller getting shot like 100 times and RBJ yelling at him "SURVIVE!" , I burst out laughing.
Man he got lit up, at least 100 bullets, what a legend
“He ain’t playing God...he’s bein’ judged by him.” Fucking brilliant
Robert Downey Junior pulled off something incredible in this movie. There aren't many people who can act as an actor who is over-acting without over-acting.
I mean just wow. Brilliant.
“He believes we out here filming planet of the apes on TH-cam but I don’t buy it”
We need to start a petition to have Tropic thunder 2, as far fetched that idea is, this my favorite character for RBJ besides iron man and sherlock holmes
Eleazar Hernandez Well they are making a spin off of Tom Cruise's character. Does that count?
I'm shocked we never got at least a spin off
@@supermariofan03 whats the movie called?
True
Too late now 🤷♂️
"5-time Academy Award winner" - priceless!
He's not paying god, he's being judged by him
At 4:19 Manny Pacquiao. LMFAO !! It looks like his twin brother !! I'm puking with laughter !!
I hope he's not paying ha ha
“He ain’t playing god ... he’s being judged by him . “ 😂😂
chapelle does the best black to white and rdj best white to black
@Mr. Reality If you eliminate the skin color most black people look Asian anyway LOL!
@CUTWEST not really
That's a buddy movie waiting to happen.
@@rowingaway yes really. Google Asian people with afros and then kindly have that seat for me.
I think Martin Lawrence does a good black to white also
"Survive!"
Best single-word line in comedy films, ever.
God, I love how he plays this character.
People must be running out of things to be outraged about when they suddenly discover Tropic Thunder exists and Robert Downey Jr. played a method actor portraying a black man in it.
The "BAAAAAHHHH!!" after One man chose to question his god is the most epic thing lol
Im so glad i didnt have cable or cell phone when trailers for this came out. I went to movie with friend and picked it out of boredom. Never laughed so hard or as much . Rdj and Tom stole this movie. Ben Stillers Masterpiece! One of best comedies of all time.
"Ain't no phones in '69 I'm head to toe legitimate". Hahaha that killed me
So no one won an Oscar in this movie? Funny as hell and underrated.
RDJ was nominated for best supporting actor
@@tiaammar925 lost it against Heath in dark knight, any other time he would have bagged it
Tom Cruise was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars
Kirk Lazarus is so in character that he forgets that he is white and australian, thats method acting to the very end.
He stays in character till the DVD comes out/commentary? Hahahahhha
One of the most brilliant comedies ever produced.
Robert Downey jr. should have won SOMETHING for this role! damn!!!
+Nasafiyel Paige Yeah, but he was unlucky he was nominated with Heath Ledger's Joker. Hard to beat that.
@@mysteriousdoge1298 he lost to an Australian method actor when he was playing an Australian method actor playing a black guy
He won a Bag of Chips and a box of Debbies.
He won our hearts
A stickman at least.

Fucking legend.
1 week down, 2 weeks behind, GI Joe can't cry don't matter coz you aint got the camera turned on anyway...LETS PARTY!!!
Robert Downey Jr. acting as a brother
I support it.
Robert Downey jr. owned this movie!
fhhfgj rather Ben Stiller cause he wrote, played and produced it. But I get ya

Oh my god.. the only non-black man I can let slide playing a Black man because its just too damn funny for me to be offended on any level
That's because he did it right. I thought it was a black dude when I first saw it until somebody told me it was RDJ. I started laughing even harder when they told me that shit.
StephonST It's even more complicated, We have RDJ playing as Russell Crowe playing a black man.
Pissjugable you mad for no reason. Chill Bruh
Dunn Dealz Man sorry..
Pissjugable You really do need to calm down with that. If it doesn't offend you in any way, cool.

0:44 so this is how Tony Stark met Peter Parker
Lol I can't even😂

In Earth 69
I bet they had a ball filming this movie! Great character acting by superstars!
he dumped toby for tom holland
Emily Lily well done lol
Between Robert Downey jr. And Tom Cruise that sold the whole film for me
I would trade Stacy Dash and Raven Simone for RDJ as Osiris
Daniel Scott The Black delegation has heard and is on accord with this request, pending the white delegation accepts the trade.
Layth Adrian lol
Nobody wants them hoes
All truth
Stacey Dash I totally get, but don't tell me Raven Symone is a Nazi too.
Arguably RDJ’s best work. Also, Tom Cruise killed it as well (for me, this was the beginning of Cruise’s comeback).

8:01 "Heh, that smelled just like bolony for some reason.." WTF😂😂😂😂
that was hilarious!
ain't no kriss Angel mind freak David Blaine trap door shit lmfao
Les Grossman might very well be one of the funniest character parodies I've ever seen. If you're not aware, Tom had a big ass and it just kept getting bigger early in his career. There were tons of rumors and innuendo as to how he rid himself of so much booty, but alas in this film he showcased his ass for everyone to see it. He played that part perfectly. This movie has so many golden comedic scenes and one liners that I hope are not lost to history.
I want Les to be a supervillain in a Mission:Impossible movie!
I'm obsessed with this movie.
I literally forget sometimes that Osiris is RDJ. Legendary role man.
THE only actor to pull off black face in a movie
+Andrew Briddell and for it not to be offensive.
NAACP and other Civil Right group were fine with RDJ wearing blackface
Scott Andrews Because the movie was a parody of Hollywood and was making fun of how people use blackface. Plus it did help that he was fucking hilarious. To me this is one of the best acting performances I have ever seen.
Ethan Ahoia true he literally reminds me of my uncle lol.
Gene Wilder in Silver Streak did it, but if you're young, you may not remember. Blackface can be done well as a joke. Anything can be, really. The more awkward the subject, the bigger the laugh, if you pull it off. That's the beauty of comedy.
Ok, let me try to clear this up so everyone can be on the same level.
RDJ is portraying and satirically playing the overly Southern token black soldier in Vietnam and war movies in the late 70s and 80s. HE WAS NOT TRYING TO PORTRAY A TYPICAL BLACK MAN. It was a brilliant imitation of the movies made around that time!
Ever seen "The walking dead"? not the zombie show, but the Vietnam war movie in the 90s? "Dead Presidents"? Even just seeing those two movies right there, You'll COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND THE ROLE HE WAS PARODYING. AND HE DID A FUCKING AMAZING JOB. Im half black and I didn't find a damn thing offensive because I'm not some whiny pussy. I laughed my ass off and knew exactly the role he was playing here. It was soo damn good that it deserved an oscar.
@Nacho if your dad is black and your mom is Chinese, guess what? You're half black.
@Nacho Really?
Nobody cares. As a 100% black man this shit was hilarious
@Nacho we have here is a full-blown idiot who shouldn't ever reproduce!
Nobody asked for your explanation. We're all here because RDJ is fucking hilarious
"Heh. That smelled just like bologna for some reason." best line in cinema
4:44 and then RDJ did the DVD commentary while still in character, and it is HILARIOUS! If you ever come across a DVD/Blu Ray of Tropic Thunder do yourself a favor and watch it again with the commentary track.
“Stop tailgatin me ya pasty teabag” 😂😂😂
1:47 "di di mau, di di now!" My wife is Vietnamese and I say this to here when we need to go. "Di di mau" is a rude Vietnamese expression to tell someone to hurry up. She likes this Sgt Osiris quote so much she even uses it on me. I am a Vietnam vet and love the funny references in this movie. I can see where many could be offended if they don't understand the references in the movie.
@Andrew Johnson Thanks much for your kind words.
The entire movie is such a masterpiece. I laughed my ass off the entire movie. I didn't know anything about it prior to watching, and that made it so much better haha. The intro alone had me dying and wondering what the hell this movie will be. It did not disappoint
Same here, I didn’t recognize either RDJ or Cruise...I was full retard 😂
For anyone who never bought the DVD, let me just say, you missed out on the pure gold of Sgt Osirus's commentary on the film. 😊 Its literally as good as the movie itself.
Be here till Chinese newyear waiting for my man to cry!! 😂
Robert Downey jr was the best part of the movie and stole the show hands down 🙌🏽
He should of won an Oscar. Lol.
RDJ is the man for this but let’s not forget Ben Stiller made all this possible.
Robert Downy Jr. and Samuel Jackson had a baby together and named him, "Lincoln Osiris".
" I don't drop character til I done the dvd commentary."....I hope they do a part 2 to this flick.
0:36 always has me in tears.
Man, I want want tropic thunder 2!
“I can’t feel my legs”
