    We don't like upper cabinets. Our last house had a pop up down draft for this very reason. It was great although it was loud. Our kitchen didn't smell. We are planning the same thing in our new house I am currently renovating. This place will have induction so no gas to deal with. Hoping to get an exterior blower this time. We did not hate it .)

      Except downdrafts do not vent well

      @@YaleAppliance1 I hear you loud and clear. Maybe it is the way we cook. I am just saying we never had an issue with our setup. Would an overhead be better ? Absolutely. Did I ever think there was too much smoke in my kitchen or it smelled ? No That didn’t happen. It could come down to what and how we cook though.

    The downdraft hate is palpable.

    Which would be better? We have a 12' cathedral ceiling above our electric range. Should we use a pop-up 4, range w/built in downdraft, or put a fan in the ceiling near the peak (12')?

    • @YaleAppliance1
      @YaleAppliance1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Do I have to choose. All seem flawed.

    • @ThatEEguy2818
      @ThatEEguy2818 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YaleAppliance1 they are flawed, but they're really the only choices I have. The range is not on an outside wall and a hood hanging from a 12' ceiling would be super ugly.

    the ceiling is open vaulted and very high but definitely cooking of a 48'induction range on the island is in the design. what ventilation suggested if not down draft traditional hood can't reach the ceiling

    @YaleAppliance do downdrafts work if there's a very small area for vent to go to the outside? Say 4' to exit?

    • @stupidfilms4814
      @stupidfilms4814 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm big on proper ventilation for cooking but the eyesore of overhead range hood vent is not nothing.

    • @YaleAppliance1
      @YaleAppliance1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We typically don't recommend downdrafts at all. Really it should be a last resort when venting as they are not effective. Having it exhaust through a 4" duct is not ideal either. To put that in perspective thats the same as an over the range microwave requires.

      @stupidfilms4814 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YaleAppliance1 Going to be using kitchen to film cooking videos as well- hence why design of stovetop in island makes sense. That being said, I'll opt for a good overhead vent w high CFM.

  • @carlover4239
    @carlover4239 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would an integrated ceiling vent be better than a downdraft? I want a clean look, but understand downdrafts aren’t as good. 8’ ceiling height.

    • @YaleAppliance1
      @YaleAppliance1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely. You're venting from above so it would give you the capture area required to vent a space properly. Most of those units are good up to 12-feet high so you are well within range of effectiveness.

    What happens if you don’t have enough make up air?

    • @YaleAppliance1
      @YaleAppliance1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you install a kit you're fine. They all work the same way. As soon as the hood gets to 400 CFM the damper will open allowing the same amount air in that leaves.

    i get it, but, what if a downdraft is literally the only choice given budget and kitchen logistics? Not everyone has the luxury of just designing it out. I normally love your videos, and your no BS opinions, but this is unhelpful. If you had in here somewhere something like if you have to do it then these are the ones to pick. What about Best, Faber, Zephyr, Bosch, GE - are they all really equally bad? Do they all just not work at all? I doubt it, but I wouldn't know from your video.

    • @YaleAppliance1
      @YaleAppliance1  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Point taken...in other videos, I do say its better than totally renovating a bad design. Its better than nothing which should not be the standard in a new kitchen. I like the Thermador or any higher CFM downdraft
