There's always some debate as to whether mitch is a tenor or counter tenor. The fact he can effortlessly go up into the soprano range puts him as a counter tenor, a much rarer commodity. But it's not just his ability to hit those highs, he just has a unique voice. Tell me anyone that sounds like him. If unleashed to full power, his voice would eclipse every member of ptx. He has such mastery of his talent. He also has the ability to illicit such emotion in his audience, something ptx has used many times. When he starts singing it's like a jump then you melt. Perfection.
Fortunately for all of us, Pentatonix is very supportive of their members doing their own work, they have stated that they feel it helps them grow and brings more to the group. Their only rule is that PTX comes first. The Roses album by Messer is terrific, Machine is my favorite on the album. All of their solo work is great. Thank you for reacting to this masterpiece!
Mitch's vocal control is OFF THE CHARTS - only someone with that level of technical fine-tuning could even attempt to pull this off. And that's without layering in his spectacular range, tone and resonance. It's no surprise that he's been described as a 'once in a generation singer.'

I think this was a ‘taster’ to see how Messer would be received- it did well. Messer’s music is beautiful- darker and deeper than this and it would be difficult to single a song out. ‘Machine’ is the song that seems to be most popular however.

It is my understanding that Mitch arranged the song, played piano and synths. There is a video of him singing Kiss The Air at his High School talent show that is worth the watch. No possible auto tune there.

Mitch has the most stunning, etheral voice and his performance of this song showcases it beautifully. It is so gentle, but so powerful, he conveys so much emotion, he has your full attention from the first note. Mitch is my favorite in PTX and one of my favorites ever, his Messer Roses EP and the other Messer songs Love Supply and Ready2Die are amazing. I can't wait to see what else he creates . I'm sorry I've been absent, but I have a lot of stuff going on at the moment. I haven't watched any reactions from anyone, and was only pulled in today because you showcased my honorary child. I'm going to ramble now, so apologies in advance! I said before that I had a personal reason for preferring PTX to other a capella groups, and Mitch is the reason why. Both my boys are on the autistic spectrum. My older boy is 25 and takes no interest in music as a rule, and it's the same with my 6 year old. Autistic people can be very obsessive compulsive, and also struggle to connect with anything sensory. When Mitch released this cover, I listened to it while my youngest (then 5) was playing Minecraft (the EnderOllie4 username is actually because he wanted to upload minecraft videos so I let him use my account, the Ender is minecraft related, Ollie as that's his name). Anyway, it can take anything up to half an hour to get him to turn off the game, but literally seconds after Mitch started singing, my little boy stopped playing his game and walked over to watch the ENTIRE video. His eyes never left the screen, he was just mesmerised. It was an emotional moment for me to see my child react in such a way. Mitch's voice is magical, and nothing will ever make me feel any different. My little boy calls him the 'ooh guy'. He also makes me play PTX's version of The Weeknd's Blinding Lights, which is another Mitch heavy song. I also have a huge amount of respect for Mitch both as a person and an artist. As mentioned in other comments, he composed and played all the backing elements to this song, and mixed and produced himself. Super, super talented. Personally, he has overcome extreme bullying over the years (still happens now unfortunately 😕), and has suffered terrible anxiety throughout. Yet from all accounts he is a super sweetheart and a genuinely lovely guy. I kinda feel maternal towards him, which is why he's my honorary child. I just want to hug him and thank him for what he did for my son. He connected with my boy, and for an autistic child, that is just amazing. If you got through my essay, that's why I love PTX and Mitch so much. They're all sweethearts ❤, and worth me breaking my 'no TH-cam videos until my drama is sorted' rule of the last week or so. Superfruit are brilliant. You might check out 'Rise' (Katy Perry cover) for amazing vocals and a collab to boot, and their Disney 'Frozen Medley' is good fun. Brilliant vocals (despite them being 'tipsy'), funny video, and hysterical bloopers at the end, so make sure you watch right to the end. Messer is a different ball game entirely. If you like techno, Messer's Machine should be perfect for you. He seems to have spent the pandemic perfecting his voice, and you can hear the result here and in The Prayer. The remarkable thing to me is his combination of control and ease - he makes it seem so effortless, and yet you can feel the control.
I love Mitch. You need to do more superfruit. They have a lot of really funny videos and bloopers after the subscribe screen. Also, you should check out Aha! Singapore. That one you will never forget!
Mitch is fantastic and other members are active outside of Pentatonix. Kevin plays several instruments and is a world class cello player. He has an active channel on TH-cam. Avi is now a successful singer/song writer with many great songs. Kirstin has played Broadway, writes songs, and released her own album a few years back. Recommend her Break A Little from that album.

I have been a Pentatonix enthusiast for almost ten years, and in all that time, I've never realized that Mitch is a beautiful pianist as well as a world-class singer. That he did ALL the music on this video is an important piece of information that I had just missed until hearing it again in this video. Thank you for reviewing it. I concur. It's wonderful! One caveat, however. I can't help feeling that I'd like the song a lot more, had Pentatonix taken it on, put it through their various iterations and built up to the great crescendo and wall of sound climax and coda, as they so often do. Just speculating...

Hi guys, I quickly popped back to May 21 and viewed the Billie Eilish original. So I've had a back to back comparison and swapping the beautiful mountains and an anaconda around your neck for a roof top and an over sized raincoat, didn't quite do it for me. Great voice, an excellent cover vocally but Billie puts more feeling into it for me, her voice is just so unique. Its very surprising that you only gave Billie 9/10 and Mitch 9.9/10, No actually I'm shocked.
@Peter Richards Haha, yes, the settings were completely different and a huge contrast. I do recall that Mitch released this right after Billie released hers, which was right in Lockdown, so maybe travel was restricted and that was the only raincoat available. As for the scores, hummm not sure really on that, perhaps we scored Mitch a little higher as he was a chap singing song we know as a Billie song, not many guys are going to try and take that on. Plus you have to factor in that we really have no idea what we are doing most of the time. Hope that helps.

I'm sure you guys get so many things suggested to you all the time, but I'm still going to suggest this one just because I'd like for you guys to at least know it exists. Pentatonix released a video showing the recording of their latest christmas album, titled Evergreen. It is one of the most interesting videos I've ever seen. I've always loved behing the scene stuff but a capella music is probably the most interesting genre of music to see bts of.

If you like techno, Messer's Machine should be perfect for you. He seems to have spent the pandemic perfecting his voice, and you can hear the result here and in The Prayer. The remarkable thing to me is his combination of control and ease - he makes it seem so effortless, and yet you can feel the control.
Such an emotional song, sung perfectly. Brought forth tears the first time I heard Mitch sing it.

Mitch is fantastic and other members are active outside of Pentatonix. Kevin plays several instruments and is a world class cello player. He has an active channel on TH-cam. Avi is now a successful singer/song writer with many great songs. Kirstin has played Broadway, writes songs, and released her own album a few years back. Recommend her Break A Little from that album.

I have been a Pentatonix enthusiast for almost ten years, and in all that time, I've never realized that Mitch is a beautiful pianist as well as a world-class singer. That he did ALL the music on this video is an important piece of information that I had just missed until hearing it again in this video. Thank you for reviewing it. I concur. It's wonderful! One caveat, however. I can't help feeling that I'd like the song a lot more, had Pentatonix taken it on, put it through their various iterations and built up to the great crescendo and wall of sound climax and coda, as they so often do. Just speculating...
I was not expecting such an introspective reading on this song, but Mitch proves his impeccable taste. I'd really like to hear more of his solo stuff. I'm a 68 yr. old fan of Billie's; aside from Billie's originals, it amazes me that such a young artist is putting out music that fosters great covers. You might want to take a look at Teddy Swims covering "idontwannabeyouanymore'. Hi guys, I quickly popped back to May 21 and viewed the Billie Eilish original. So I've had a back to back comparison and swapping the beautiful mountains and an anaconda around your neck for a roof top and an over sized raincoat, didn't quite do it for me. Great voice, an excellent cover vocally but Billie puts more feeling into it for me, her voice is just so unique. Its very surprising that you only gave Billie 9/10 and Mitch 9.9/10, No actually I'm shocked.

Haha, yes, the settings were completely different and a huge contrast.
I do recall that Mitch released this right after Billie released hers, which was right in Lockdown, so maybe travel was restricted and that was the only raincoat available.
As for the scores, hummm not sure really on that, perhaps we scored Mitch a little higher as he was a chap singing song we know as a Billie song, not many guys are going to try and take that on.
Plus you have to factor in that we really have no idea what we are doing most of the time.
