I spent 6 months trying MANY bath bomb recipes and they came out okay, but never good enough to sell! I tried this one last week and it is AWESOME! they came out exactly as I hoped they would! thanks SO much for sharing your recipe Dean!!!
@@DeanWilson Hello! I have a question. I'm making a Bath bomb to soak foot and relief pain. In my country I can't find the SLSA ingredient. it's neccesary if I don't need a lot of bubbles. or do you have a recipe for Soak foot bath bombs? Thank you
This is the best bath bomb recipe ever. I've made it several times and have never had a problem with it. Even the first time I made them they came out great. No adjustments were needed. I followed Dean's instructions meticulously.
Making lots of goodies for my family (candles, lip balms, etc) and they're asking for bombs and steamers. I heard that you have the best bath bomb recipe and it seems like it, hands down. Can't wait to try it! I've been looking for a great shower steamer recipe and none have come close to the care and technical detail or your recipes. What would you recommend we change for this bath bomb recipe to make a good shower steamer? In my personal "arsenal" I've got everything but SLSA, but would love to hear what you would do differently with steamers =)
Dean I want to thank you for providing your recipe! I subbed 50% avocado oil and 50% cocoa butter for the almond oil and it worked so very well! The bombs float, spin and produce some nice frothy bubbles and great fizz. It's not too greasy...just enough to be moisturizing. The scent amount is spot on too. Thanks a bunch for sharing this!
Thank you! I just started making bath bombs. They are not easy to master! but I think I have them down. never heard of SLSA, sounds like a great product! Will try it out. Thank you again!
Hey Dean! Lindsay again, just was wondering if you could do a video of what one if your bath bombs looks like in use. How the colors come through, how many bubbles and what the water looks like!
This is a great video and your bombs are lovely!!! A suggestion for those having a difficult time molding i.e. too dry or too wet of mixture. I add my wet ingredients first but I don't add alcohol or water. I mix the dry and the wet ingredients, then I spray with alcohol to make the mixture just moist enough to be able to squeeze the mixture in my hand until it is like damp sand. I mold with stainless steel molds, tap, tap, tap, and they come out easily. Depending on your climate you may need more or less liquid. I live in FL so my ingredients aren't as dry as they would be elsewhere. I think that trips a lot of people up. In other words, it's a dance of balance between the wet and dry ingredients. You may have to adjust the liquids slightly for your climate. I hope this helps! ♡
First I want to say THANK YOU vary much! You’re the only person I could find on TH-cam that shares the measurements to the ingredients. I had no idea where to begging. What mold and size do you use? And where can I find it? Thank you kindly.
Your welcome. The mold size is 60cm, stainless steel. I got them from aussiesoapsupplies.com.au but they are currently closed because of a fire in their warehouse.
Dean Wilson thanks a million for the quick response, I wasn't expecting one at all to be honest, coz most people don't reply! So if I skipped it, it won't effect the final texture of the bath bombs?
Thank you so much for this wonderful recipe. You are a great instructor Dean! I just made my first batch and they turned out beautiful! You are an artist
Thank you, Dean, for this wonderful formula. I struggled for a while with bath bombs. I made two batches now and they came out wonderfully. (Had to add a little extra IPA though. Now it is a waiting game to see how they stand the test of time!
Hi dean, I'm been trying difrent recipe with little success. This looks might be what I'm looking for. Can you please show how your bath bombs react when drop in tub. Thank and congrats in your channel.
Dean! I finally made your recipe after struggling with on-again, off-again, success. Yay! It works beautifully - thank you so much for generosity in sharing your how-tos and recipes!
I got a good tip from someone i dont remember who but they said that they mix all the wet ingredients in with the baking soda then add the measured citric acid to prevent a reaction because everything is already absorbed in the baking soda.
Hello Dean! I've been watching your videos for a little while and admire your work. I really want to thank you on some items with your bath bomb tutorial. 1 - I truly appreciate the time you took with this recipe. Hi Dean .. good day! and discovered what my problem with the pump. Citric acid GRANULADO I have is .. not a fine powder such as talc. thank you very much for your answers and tutorials !! greetings from Buenos Aires. Argentina.
It works great! I get mine from Wholesale Supplies Plus.com. It’s only $1.95 a pound!! And all their products are the best quality! Great prices on everything!
Dean I love watching your videos! Instead of using SLSA to make the bubbles could you add a little bit of liquid bubble bath or Castile soap to the wet ingredients?
I have tried to add bubble bath to my bath bombs but because its more a liquid it does not merge into the power, it just makes the bath bomb wet and it doesn't not stick together. I don't know about castile soap but i think it would be the same. I think from memory, butter milk powder might be an option but look it up first as I have never tried it.
Absolutely love this recipe, it is perfect. Tried so many different recipes and then I stumbled on yours and I will never use another one. This recipe makes the perfect bath bombs, the mixture sticks together and doesn't give any problems unmolding. Makes bath bombs that float and spin and make a beautiful fizz. Thank you so much
I love your video thank you. Your technique is different than other ones i have watched. It seems dry and powdery but holds togehter so well. Most other instructions tell you to spritz until the mixture holds its shape. Could you explain this please?
I haven't tried it yet, but after hours of looking for bath bomb recipes, you've got me convinced! I'm just wondering how these feel on the skin? I used a lush bath bomb not too long ago and they made my skin super silky.
This recipe sets very hard, very quickly Dean... my only issue is that I don't have enough moulds to leave them sitting inside half of one to dry and when I placed them on foam with cling film over it, they still went slightly flat (or more misshapen) at the bottom. No other complaints about them though... fastest drying recipe I have ever sampled :D
Dean Wilson They turned out fantastic! I colored them with white shimmer, gold and orange Micas! And scented them with white nectarine and pink coral from Lonestar candle supply company. And I hid some blue and pink fizzy embeds in them. I topped them with pink Himalayan salt.
Hi .. thanks alot for sharing this wonderful recipe, I was wondering why you cover it at the end inside the box .. I think it must dry well before! I am right??
Tried and failed to make bath bombs so came over to your channel Dean (since your soap videos are awesome). I’m so glad I found a bath bomb recipe. I’m excited to try them !
Dean I just had to come back to tell you that I made the bath bombs tonight using your recipe & they worked perfectly. It’s the first time I’ve managed to get them to hold their shape. I’ve tried a few recipes from USA & UK but this is the only one that worked. Wish I could attach a photo to this comment to show you! Thank you!!!!
I would say about 1 year. I use 150mm x 100mm plastic bags to pack my bath bombs. You can find that video here th-cam.com/video/fn-JuGiqzF8/w-d-xo.html
Can i use water instead of alcohol? And do i need to add polysorbate 80 if i make just pure white bath bombs without colorants? Thank you for your help 😊
If you use a fragrance or mica its worth adding the polysorbate-80 as it helps disperse the oils. If its just for yourself then try without and test test test. I personally would not use water as it activates the mix.
Love your videos. Easy to follow & to the point that I actually don't lose interest. Made my 1st bath bombs tonight with this recipe. They look and smell amazing. Abit humid here in WA but I think they will be fine in the container. Thanks Dean. :)
SLSA is great alternative to Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, more natural, and much, much milder. This product is derived from vegetable source and conforms to Ecocert's cosmetic standard. This fine white powder is excellent for blending into "bath bombs," bath fizzies, powdered bubble baths, bath salts for super foam, scrubs and more. Makes a blanket of bubbles that last! Long lasting SLSA powder provides excellent foam and viscosity response.
Thank you for the recipe. It's finally what I have been looking for. They turned out great. They are soft. I see why it takes two days. My questions is, what alcohol percentage did you use? They sell it in 50%, 70% etc. Thank you.
I used Witch Hazel last night, seemed too moist. They're still currently drying, haven't had a chance to toss them in a tub yet. I picked up some 70% that I'm going to be trying today. Excited! So far this is the best recipe I've found and I like the yield as well!
This video is so informative, sorry to ask one off topic question, do you have any videos about how to mix essential oils with water, I don't understand that sorbate 80, it will be so helpful for(a detailed video) people like me,who are stepping into SOAP world, thank you so much
Hi, I don't use essential oils for anything. The fragrances I use are skin safe (soap). Polysorbate-80 will help disperse the oils in the water, along with the mica is any.
Hi Dean! Hope you're doing well! Miss seeing you on YT🥺 I thought I had watched all of your videos and then this one popped up today while I searched bath bombs and I was shocked lol like I said, thought I had watched them all❤ happy to know I have more to watch from you!
Hello Dean. Thank you for sharing. How would I incorporate orange wax into this recipe? As far as omitting the fragrance oils and/ or sweet almond oil? Thanx again.
Hello, First of all I’d like o thank you for think video, it’s absolutly amazing. I would like to know if it’s possible to change the almond oil with cocnut oil. If yes, is it the same amount? Thank you :)
@@DeanWilson i searched everywhere today for rubbing alchool 91%. They only sell 70%. Is that correct to use it in this receipy? Thank you so much again.
I am trying to learn micas. I want a vivid color for the water. I have both micas and polysorbate 80, do your bombs give a vivid color with the red and pink? Thank you
Congrats Dean on your over 50,000 subscribers, that's awesome! A reflection of you for sure!! Question for you on this recipe, I do not have any SLSA on hand, is it an optional ingredient? How does it effect the recipe without it?
Hi Dean < can I swap the slsa for cornstarch &/or cream of tartar? Also for the wet ingredients, I only have witch hazel but no iso alcohol, is it ok to swap it? Thanks for a great video
I just had a thought. With almond oil I will have to be careful with my friends who have but allergies. Can you suggest another oil that will substitute well. Thanks Dean
Hi Dean, I've tried your recipe twice now and I can't seem to get them to harden. The only difference I did was using avocado in place of the almond. I don't know how hard to pack. Although they seem to float, I don't know if the reason is that I need a harder packing? The recipe is really nice! I used Irene of Body BonBon's mold and they look awesome. I also did put them into the container as you do. Any help would be great. I only make them for myself and my kids, and really appreciate all your hard work and the opportunity of the recipe!
Hi, I love your videos and thank you for teaching! I wanted to try this bath bomb recipe but I do not have the Koalin clay or the SLSA but I do have a little rose clay. Can I Omit this or substitute for something else?? Thanks
Hi, im not sure you can sub it with rose clay as I have not used it. You can sub SLSA for buttermilk powder (but once again - I have not tired this) anyone?
Dean, ? # 3 or is it #4. can bath bombs be stored in a cardboard box in the shed during winter months? There not shrink wrapped, just heavy saran wrapped with ribbon tie. Would the condensation be enough to activate the SLSA? Thank you
Awesome, thanks for such a prompt reply. I think you are the only one that replies so fast thanks. One more question. Do you think corn starch would work as well as kaolin clay for hardening?
Thank you. When I used corn starch I found it dried the bath bombs and made them crumble. But give it a try because thats the best way to really know. Maybe I did something wrong.
I was wondering what the Epsom salt brings to the bomb since it’s not enough to be therapeutic? Does it make the bomb harder? I was thinking about leaving it out. If I do, do I need to make any other adjustments?
Hello Merry Christmas 2019. Can you please advise what the amount of essential oil I cld use in this recipe? I can get essential oils tomorrow but for soap fragrances the suppliers are closed or shipping in new year. Canada does not have the abundant suppliers.
I have not used essential oils for my bath bombs, only fragrance oils. I assume it would be the same but not 100% sure. I guess it would depend on the essential oil your using too.
i would like to make some bath bombs with natural & organic colors no dye's what can i use? and if i take out the dye do i have to put in the slsa,polysorbate-80?
The polysorbate-80 helps with the fragrance as well as mica and other oils. SLSA makes more bubbles, try using half as much as in my recipe. I have not tried clays yet but Im guessing they can be used. Anyone?
Hi! I’m wondering if you use powdered citric acid or granules? Can powdered citric acid be used? What do you think the measurements would be compared to the granules?
Maybe, but you might have to leave them in the mold for quite a while. If you do this, put clear wrap over the top once you filled all the molds. Keep the air out.
Thanks Maris. If you leave out the poly80 then your oils will float on the surface, its best to add it. It also helps disperse the mica on the water surface. SLSA is optional.
Hi dean! I love this recipe they always get rock hard. I have an issue with them being dusty after they dry. Any suggestions on how to stop that? Should I add more oil? Thanks
I get that too, it's usually just the top of the bath bombs, the rest should be solid. I leave my bath bombs in a container for 2-5 days without any air. This will dry them out quicker. More oils will take longer for them to try.
Thanks for great recipe. I dont currently have any clay could use cream tartar for this recipe and if so would it be more or less the amount u used in the clay. Also i have poly 20 instead of 80. Should i use more or less? I enjoy your videos so much! Have a wonderful day
Ho Toni, I am not sure about cream of tartar. I have not used it before. Your need poly-80 for your bath bombs. Poly-20 is used more for liquid soaps. I dont recommend using it for bath bombs.
I spent 6 months trying MANY bath bomb recipes and they came out okay, but never good enough to sell! I tried this one last week and it is AWESOME! they came out exactly as I hoped they would! thanks SO much for sharing your recipe Dean!!!

Polysorbate-80 helps the mica and oils not stick to the surface or bath tub. You can use soap friendly liquid dye if you dont have it.

thanks for the great recipe and method. I was having trouble with my bombs this year. Now they are looking nice.
Awesome. :)
I'm having a hard time figuring out GRAMS! I'm used to ounces. Sorry I'm a blonde Brunette? 🤦🏻♀️
You can use google to convert it over. Search "convert 100 grams to oz" and it will display it.
Your scale has a button called “units”... it toggles between the two.
I love your video thank you. Your technique is different than other ones i have watched. It seems dry and powdery but holds togehter so well. Most other instructions tell you to spritz until the mixture holds its shape. Could you explain this please?
That is true, you should spritz and mix until it holds solid in your hand.
I love your video,thanks a lot,veronica

I started to put cling film over muffin trays and place the bath bombs on that. They bend to the shape of the cling so they dont distort.
thanks Dean, I will give it a go :)
Tried that and it worked wonders.... they were totally set like rocks within an hour or 2 tops! Fantastic recipe Dean :D Thanks again xx

Im not 100% sure. The website says 100% Alcohol but I think its more like 91%
oh okay. I used 50% on the first batch and I just finished my second batch using 70%. I almost bought 91%. Next time. Thank you!!!! Love your video's.

Great recipe and easy to follow. I just wanted to know, could leave it as a loose powder version and can I use an essential oil?
You can crush it down to powder once it sets. That is fine. I have not used essential oils before.
@@DeanWilson thank you so much
Hi Dean! Hope you're doing well! Miss seeing you on YT🥺 I thought I had watched all of your videos and then this one popped up today while I searched bath bombs and I was shocked lol like I said, thought I had watched them all❤ happy to know I have more to watch from you!
Thanks Holly, im doing good. Writing kids books these days. But will put up a soap related video this week hopefully.
Hello Dean. Thank you for sharing. How would I incorporate orange wax into this recipe? As far as omitting the fragrance oils and/ or sweet almond oil? Thanx again.
Sorry i don't know anything about orange wax.
I made your last bath bomb recipe. I gifted to friends on special occasions and they love them. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome, thanks :)
Dean you are absolutely the best. I order all the ingredients and made the bombs and they cane out perfect. THANK you THANK you THANK you :-)
Awesome Noemi :)
Hello,
First of all I’d like o thank you for think video, it’s absolutly amazing.
I would like to know if it’s possible to change the almond oil with cocnut oil. If yes, is it the same amount?
Thank you :)
Yes you can! Same amounts would be fine.
@@DeanWilson i searched everywhere today for rubbing alchool 91%. They only sell 70%. Is that correct to use it in this receipy? Thank you so much again.
Yes, I use 65% so 70% is fine.
I will try your recipe once I have all the ingredients, many thanks for your informative video xx
I am trying to learn micas. I want a vivid color for the water. I have both micas and polysorbate 80, do your bombs give a vivid color with the red and pink? Thank you
Yes, I use Mica for the powder color on the surface and Lakes dye for the water color.
Can the mixture be used for bath bomb powder? How would this be done?
Yes, I did another video on this, but just grind it down to powder.

Thank you, is this mix kid friendly or do you have a separate recipe for this?
@@michellebeard2486 Yes, its kid friendly. :)
Congrats Dean on your over 50,000 subscribers, that's awesome! A reflection of you for sure!! Question for you on this recipe, I do not have any SLSA on hand, is it an optional ingredient? How does it effect the recipe without it?
Thanks so much. Yes its 100% optional. You dont need it at all but it does add more foaming to the bath bomb.
its amazing how you took them out and they didnt crumble
Hi Dean < can I swap the slsa for cornstarch &/or cream of tartar? Also for the wet ingredients, I only have witch hazel but no iso alcohol, is it ok to swap it? Thanks for a great video
I have tried cornstarch but from my tests it left the bath bomb too soft. I have never tried witch hazel either, sorry.
Anyone ?
I just had a thought. With almond oil I will have to be careful with my friends who have but allergies. Can you suggest another oil that will substitute well. Thanks Dean
Nut*
You can use almost any oil you like, I chose sweet almond oil because its a thick oil, unlike olive oil or sunflower. You could try coconut oil.
You convinced me to make these lol, I ordered my stuff and hopefully i can make them this weekend :)
Thank you for sharing your recipe
Hi Dean, I've tried your recipe twice now and I can't seem to get them to harden. The only difference I did was using avocado in place of the almond. I don't know how hard to pack. Although they seem to float, I don't know if the reason is that I need a harder packing? The recipe is really nice! I used Irene of Body BonBon's mold and they look awesome. I also did put them into the container as you do. Any help would be great. I only make them for myself and my kids, and really appreciate all your hard work and the opportunity of the recipe!
Dean, thank you for sharing.
Amazing video. May I ask if I can use 99.9% alcohol? or 70% ? I am not sure what alcohol did you use in the video. Thank you
I use 65% alcohol. So anything about that should be fine.
Thank you
If the water in the air can get it to the bath bomb it might activate otherwise it should be fine. But your need to try it.
Dean thanks it is wonderful to watch. I wonder it takes time at least for me, do they get dry? do you spray them a bit with RA?
I wait 2 days for them to dry but at least 5 days before really to sell as people pick them up. I don't spray RA, it goes in with the oils.
Thanks;)
Hey Dean.. just wondering if i could use bentonite clay instead of kaolin clay?? Thanks..
Im not sure, sorry, I don't have the answer for that one.
I was wondering what the Epsom salt brings to the bomb since it’s not enough to be therapeutic? Does it make the bomb harder? I was thinking about leaving it out. If I do, do I need to make any other adjustments?
You don't need to add it. It's just something I did add.
Dean Wilson so even if you skip epsom salt all the other measurement stays the same?
Dean Wilson I have the same question
Hello Merry Christmas 2019. Can you please advise what the amount of essential oil I cld use in this recipe? I can get essential oils tomorrow but for soap fragrances the suppliers are closed or shipping in new year. Canada does not have the abundant suppliers.
I have not used essential oils for my bath bombs, only fragrance oils. I assume it would be the same but not 100% sure. I guess it would depend on the essential oil your using too.
Dean Wilson ok thanks. I have a ton of fragrances for soy candles but assuming they are different and cannot use. I will check manufacturer notes
Is there a specific % rubbing alcohol to use? Is there anything we can use in place of the rubbing alcohol? Thank you!
You can slowly include water or witch hazel. But I never had any luck with them as they started to activate the mix.
Is the purpose of placing the finished bombs in the tupperware to protect the bombs from moisture in the air?
Yes, specially at my house because it gets cold at night and lots of moisture in the house. But try without it and see what happens.
up to how much slsa powder can i add to a batch that is the same amount as yours ?? thanks
Iv'e been testing 10g,20g and 30g and I found about 15g works best for a good spin and bubbles. That is per 1000grams of powder.
Thats around the same amount you use in the video i see. will it be okay if I added more ?
The more you add the slower the spin will be, so at 30grams per 1kg it almost stops.
Hi Dean
I just wanted to know if mica for cold process soaps and bath bombs making r the same or do we get different mica for CP and bath bombs
I use the same ones, but there are also powders called LAKES which dye the water. Check this video out
th-cam.com/video/k1cRmjgBHhQ/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for all the great videos! Very helpful.
Trying this tomorrow Dean so fingers crossed for a good result , love your soaps to :)
Thanks Jo, you will do fine. :)
i would like to make some bath bombs with natural & organic colors no dye's what can i use? and if i take out the dye do i have to put in the slsa,polysorbate-80?
The polysorbate-80 helps with the fragrance as well as mica and other oils.
SLSA makes more bubbles, try using half as much as in my recipe.
I have not tried clays yet but Im guessing they can be used.
Anyone?
Hi! I’m wondering if you use powdered citric acid or granules? Can powdered citric acid be used? What do you think the measurements would be compared to the granules?
They would be the same weight. I grind all my citric acid to a powder.
Thank you so much for sharing your recipe! Do you think this recipe would work well pressed into a silicone mold too?
Maybe, but you might have to leave them in the mold for quite a while. If you do this, put clear wrap over the top once you filled all the molds. Keep the air out.
Thxxx...
What's the room temperature while you make them? Also the humidity?
I am not sure, it was just a small rented shop front 52sm. I never had the temp checked when I was there. I left 5 years ago.
Hi Dean, if I don't have Slsa or salts may I ad extra of the other Ing.? Thanks. Can't wait to try them
Yes, you can add extra baking soda and critic acid
Really good video with all the info! thank you so much!
Thank you. Can I leave out the poly 80 and the SLSA? I'm so glad I found this video. It's awesome! New subscriber here.
Thanks Maris. If you leave out the poly80 then your oils will float on the surface, its best to add it. It also helps disperse the mica on the water surface. SLSA is optional.
Dean Wilson thanks so much!
Do they float in the tub? Thank you for this video!
Yes, they do. Check out my Strawberry bath bomb test video.
natural Candle supply fragrance is what you using in your bathbombs is it okay to use in body soaps also please help thanks a lot Dean
It's skin safe. www.eroma.com.au/love-spell-candle-fragrance-oil/
Some fragrances for candles are not, so it's best to check with the supplier.
Thanks
Dean Wilson ok thanks so much for your quick response. I just start to dabble in melt and pour and i love your videos. You make beautiful products.
Thanks Toni :)
If I were to leave out the slsa, clay and polysorbate, would you advise readjusting the measurements of the other ingredients?
No, that should be fine. All those at optional.
Thanks so much for offering your wisdom
Like to try your recipe, I thought I would use witch hazel instead of water to spritz if needed. What is the SLSA for ?
I have tried witch hazel before but I never had any luck with it. The SLSA is to make more foaming/bubbles
