@@mrbendy3205 Nest Balls are still really good for catching the majority of the early route Pokémon. Regardless of type and not wasting quick balls, a Nest Ball still works just fine with anything below level 41. With a bit of math, it results in something like this: (41 - L) /10 = Catch rate (minimum of 1x) (41 - 12) / 10 = 2.9x (41 - 10) / 10 = 3.1x (41 - 17) / 10 = 2.7x (41 - 8) / 10 = 3.3x (41 - 20) / 10 = 2.1x As long as the Pokemon is not any higher than level 20, it is about as effective or greater than an Ultra Ball. I caught a Shiny Roselia at level 16 in one Nest Ball without damaging it.

So this is very similar to DP chaining, which is the hardest dang special method in any game I've tried. (That being said, it is also the one I spent most time doing.) Accidentally leaving the grass patch and hearing that music fade was the worst feeling. Additional tips from my veteran cynical soul: -when choosing between grass patches, consider your next set of shakes. If you choose a grass patch on an edge, that's one whole side that won't have any shakes. -once you get to 40, just keep resetting the radar until you get a shiny patch. Don't be tempted to keep chaining because it's SO easy for hubris to get you. -in DP, there would be swarms of unusual pokemon reported each day. This also increases the encounter chance of those pokemon compared to the regular pokemon in the area. More common in the area = more likely to show up in your chain. -save before using your super repel. Super repel --> radar --> chain. If you mess up, soft reset. -1 in 25 absolutely does not guarantee the next grass patch will be a shiny. Try not to cry.
When doing this can you save and reload to check each patch if the one you went to broke the chain? Also how long of a chain do you need before mons start getting good IVs? I don't care about shinies, I just want a high IV ditto.

Regarding the "don't go to corners" tip, that was because in the original DPPt, there was a chance that the Poke Radar would fail to generate rustling grass. The game selects rustling grass patches by picking a random tile around the perimeter of the player and succeeds if the tile is grass. If you are in a corner, it severely decreases the number of grass tiles that the game can randomly select, thus increasing the chance of a failed Radar use. This event would have broken the chain. I do want to know if the BDSP generates rustling grass the same way, or is it guaranteed to have at least one grass patch?
Wouldn't standing at (or just near) an "edge" already decease the chances of rustling patches then? So far in BDSP I have always seen exactly 4 rustling patches so it's very likely that's it's even 4 (not just 1) guaranteed patches.

Corners were just particularly bad because, considering the first "ring" of grass at a corner (the eight tiles around the player), only 2/8 tiles are grass, whereas on an edge, 5/8 are grass. Generally, in a 10x10 tile square around the player, the more grass patches in that area, the better. Good to hear that you've mostly been seeing 4 patches tho. Have you noticed this in any sized chunk of grass? Or is it only in the large shiny hunting hotspots?

The fact that my chain can just break at any random time is pretty frustrating, to spend a ton of money on quickballs and repels just to have it all wasted when your chain randomly breaks at 35
What I noticed from the radar in BDSP is that it's a bit different than XY radar. That makes it slightly harder for me to learn since I learned everything about the XY radar :p
Amazing video I must say! Love this system until you realise that only ~5.5% of all chains will actually reach 40+ at best. Considering the time it takes to build a chain, walking 50 steps each time the game gives you bad patches, only to lose it at 38 would be so heartbreaking. Super engaging shiny hunting method though so can't hate on it too much! Buying the game myself in the next couple days
Thought I'd point out I was a bit stupid and forgot what poketips said about what to do if all the patches aren't in a good spot. Once you reach 40 just keep refreshing until you get a shiny patch. So whilst it is a 5.5% chance, once you hit that chance you're guaranteed one with a little patience. Nonetheless fact that it's so low at 5.5 still sucks
@@toasticide816 THAT ..I was about to comment that even tho it takes about the whole game beaten and quite alot of extra effort to "just" get this 5.5% ..Once you hit the 38,39,40 just refresh for infinite shiny pokemon which is insane even with all that it takes. All in all I really like it this way It still feels "balanced" like ..shiny spawns are still very valuable/rare and its not like thousands of people will now start running around with them.
I remember when I caught my first shiny without realizing it was shiny but knew they’re was something odd about it. I caught a shiny Zubat in victory road cave in Ruby game boy game. I was grinding my Pokémon for hours and found it. At the time I saw it, never heard of shiny Pokémon it was just starting to come around and I was wowww!! Pretty lucky! ✨✨
Oh bliss! The amount of hours I spent hunting shinies this way on the original D&P is insane. It is SO addictive seeing that sparkling grass and I am SO excited that it has come back, especially after the sh*tshow that was "shiny hunting" in Sword & Shield. One question that you didn't answer: I remember back in the day I would KO the Pokemon to keep the chain going, not catch them. Does that still work? I guess I can test it once I get the Pokeradar. I'm still working through the story and really enjoying it, especially now that I have this to look forward to! Thank you for the great video with such clear instructions. KOing Pokemon does keep the chain going, but you miss out on that extra 10% chance to keep it going without RNG messing you up. Good luck if you're doing this!
This guide works for regular Diamond and Pearl as well! I tried, and finally managed to chain myself a shiny Starly! I could never reach a 40 chain beforehand... Thanks for the Poketips =)
This is pretty cool, but I think my favorite method of shiny hunting is a tie between the chain catching in Pokémon Let's Go because of the candies you'll be earning, and the SoS battles in Gen 7.
Wow, I've been doing this wrong. I've been radaring manually after every catch and skipping the next one thinking it wasn't part of the chain. I'll try not using the radar to reset next time, thanks man!

so considering the 7% rule, on any given shiny hunt you need to not get a chain break 40 times in a row at 93% odds, not counting the first chain which is just what starts the whole thing. As such any given chain hunting attempt has a little less than a 6% likelihood of making it all the way to 40. Good luck!

How is it possible that I can’t get past a streak of 9 after getting to 29. I have been doing the 4 space thing and catching the Pokémon which guarantees 93%. How am I hitting the 7% so often
Most of these videos have been really helpful but I'm sorry to say this one is maybe not, I just caught 40 Snorunts in a row, and my catch chain just stopped for no apparent reason, but I do appreciate all these videos, most of them have been really helpful
I know the Radar in the original games also required the player to not run into shaking patches that were adjacent to each other, in the same row or column, or on the border of the grassy field. Did they remove those incentives in the remaster?

You can, however KOing a Pokemon gives you an 83% chance at best of continuing a chain. The extra 10% you get from capturing is well worth it, & releasing Pokemon should be easy once home support is out! I can also make a money guide, money isnt hard to get in this game :)

Just caught me a shiny Nidoran male! Using this method but I didn't reach a 40 chain. It happened in a chain of 32! Thanks for the help. It kept breaking at first but I didn't give up.

How is it possible that I can’t get past a streak of 9 after getting to 29. I have been doing the 4 space thing and catching the Pokémon which guarantees 93%. How am I hitting the 7% so often
corner patches and patches next to each other broke the chain in DPP and XY, so it makes sense people would say to avoid them

Hey Mike can you do a review on this game because a lot of the reviews are negetive but I really love this style.
Most of these videos have been really helpful but I'm sorry to say this one is maybe not, I just caught 40 Snorunts in a row, and my catch chain just stopped for no apparent reason, but I do appreciate all these videos, most of them have been really helpful

I know the Radar in the original games also required the player to not run into shaking patches that were adjacent to each other, in the same row or column, or on the border of the grassy field. Did they remove those incentives in the remaster?

Glad you enjoy it! Its actually much easier and quicker to animate text that way rather than how I used to do it. TH-cam tutorials are so helpful, it was something I overlooked for a long time :)

Btw, could you kill the pokemon instead of capturing it? It would save money and the time of deleting all the pokemon you captured before
You can, however KOing a Pokemon gives you an 83% chance at best of continuing a chain. The extra 10% you get from capturing is well worth it, & releasing Pokemon should be easy once home support is out! I can also make a money guide, money isnt hard to get in this game :)

@@mcNuggetMuncher Just get the amulet coin asap. Always have your lead pokemon hold it. By the time I got to the Pokemon League I had almost 650k and that was after spending freely on stuff I wanted.
