THIS IS THE ONE! Ive been patiently waiting to get to THIS book. This was my 1st Grendel book. I shouldnt have been able to buy it I want old enough at the time in high school but my buddy worked the lsc (which was 1 counter and wall in the back of a vudeo store). I came in to see him one day and Four Devils One Hell #1 was on the shelf. Id NEVER even heard of Grendel but the cover art, the title, the name GRENDEL...I had to know. I would in just a few years after this - late highschool - sell all my comics except Grendel. I have never left the Devil since that 1st meeting. I continued to find it and then met Matt at my 1st con (I was so dumb, he was so nice). Grendel changed the way I saw comics & art. This podcast is amazing. I listen to comic podcasts and NOONE is as good at talking about the ART of a comic as well as you two. Its a major blindspot in most comic podcasts but with your creator backgrounds you speak and examine the art better than anyone else doing podcasts like this. This also was my first introduction to Grendel. I had originally seen covers of the Bisley covers from War Child, but they didn't interest me. Matt cover for this issue is what ultimately made me want to check it out, and after this, I dove head first into anything Grendel I could get my hands on.
I didn't get Grendel and then I found this one in a shop and the art and colors completely drew me in. The story plays with some themes presented in other stories. It's wild, it's beautiful, and so worth checking out.
The Devil’s World opens before us as a panoply of creators conjoin to bring forth Tales both noble and terrifying starting with a quartet of Grendels and the events that bring them together. 💀🖖♾
