That's crazy that I would get excited over seeing several rows of saxes and clarinets! Woodwinds add such an incredible element to a marching band. You can hear a significant difference in this song today. And, you don't hear the over blowing that tends to be a trend around many marching bands nowadays.
I completely agree!! I wish that there were more woodwinds and tubas. That is the same thing that I say every time I hear today’s bands!! I get tired of hearing mellophones blaring!! I wish that the band directors would look at and listen to these arrangements. There is no overblowing only a full sound. I wish that they would stop trying to be SU!! I’ll say this, the songs of today don’t really help as far as good, balanced arrangements are concerned. There is only so much that can be done with trap music!!
Go back a couple more years...82/83... show Bell Jr. High, Woodson, Kennedy and John Mc ! Yeah the Aug was nice, they'd been nice since I can remember (79' on up), but it was these other bands that made me say "Whoa"... of course its just my opinion. :) I still don't know how the Aug built that reputation to stand so long. Thanks to Hamp again (RIP). Good to see all the competition these days... Walker/Landry, Karr and others. Can't wait for Mardi Gras in a few weeks. Aloha!!
THE GREATEST TO EVER DO IT! ST AUG MARCHING 100
