I drove a ‘73 Monte Carlo when I had an extended stay in the US in the mid ‘80’s. It had ratty white bodywork that I did my best to sort out but was perfect mechanically. Loved driving around in a big American car with a 5.7L V8 engine for a few months. Bit disappointing to have to come back to a small car with a 1.0L engine when I got back to the UK!

Danf 313. Around 1990 i had the chance to buy a '73 landau edition bucket seats (swivel), 5.7 4 bbl , if course auto on the floor, white exterior burgandy top, had the economy gauge with the full gauge package, ralleys i remember it had 80,000 miles on the clock. It was offered to me for $1,000 bucks. At the time i was a nova nut owning a '74 Nova Hatchback "Spirit of America" edition. Took the monte out for a drive ran great tried the A/C all the options it came with it. I failed to mentioned that option in my comments. After finding out how many SOA novas built in '74 i hated to let it go & kept the Nova.

This beauty is mine now :-) took 2 months shipping it to copenhagen. The "thumpy" idle was not intentional, the gasket between carburator and intake was leaking, so it got "false air"
But otherwise the car is in immaculate condition....absolutely amassing after 45 years :-)

The only thing I'll add, and, sadly, is that as good looking ad these vehicles were/are, All domestic & most foreign carmakers built there cats shoddily beginning around 1973 and continuing into the early to mid 2000s. And while the foreign vehicles got better mileage back in those days, they were still built like shit, just like American cars were. I have a 1977 Monte Carlo; Bought it "almost new" in January, 1978. Kept it in our heated garage, never drove it in winter, and by 1981, the paint had faded on it. You had to take extremely good care of these, or...they prematurely rusted and fell apart(in Northern climates). Great "looking" vehicle; Very shabbily built. Beginning in the 1990s, foreign vehicles started being built better, built American built vehicles, were *still* being built like shut. The "Big Three" noted foreign completion hurt them, and...it did, but that is mainly because the Big 3 continued to built shit...into the 1990s. Can you say "Cavalier"???

In general...most vehicles today are just...ugly. Period. The demise of "looks"(in some, not all)of vehicles began in 1978, & over the years, just got worse. Today, most vehicles look uninspired & bland. Of course, this includes ALL SUVs, ALL crossovers and almost all autos. Sad!
