This is the most realistic alien in the series. I love the breath affect and the shiny skin. However I prefer the anatomical design in the original film and David Fincher's Alien.
@Brandon Spain I really missed the biomechanical look of Giger´s original and Stan Winston´s one, That it made the xenomorph a unique and original monster on film histor.
I tend to favor the more organic look as well but i do admit the biomechanical features make the Xeno more unique, mysterious and captivating. Still my favorite Xeno designs are the Runner/Ox/Dog and the Xeno in Covenant, both have a more organic look. The things I don’t like about the Resurrection design are the hands, I like more digits, I don’t like the lower leg area that connects to the feet, I do like the idea of having a more animal style leg which is what the Runner has but for some reason I think it looks a bit odd in Resurrection, maybe its the proportions, other than that I like the look a lot. I am so happy they got rid of the appendage on the upper back that normally sits between the upper dorsal tubes, I hate that part because it’s to much and it would make it impossible for the creature to position its head back while looking up and when running on all fours. The Dorsal Tubes can be moved as seen here and in Covenant, I liked how they showed that feature because if they didn’t move they would cause so many issues. When anyone designs a creature, gun, vehicle, anything, every part should have a purpose and look functional. One of the biomechanical features from both Big Chap and Aliens Warrior, that I hate is the thin tube/wire that runs from the back of the lower jaw to the bottom of the neck area. If that tube is cut or broke I am sure the Xeno wouldn’t die but still, it doesn’t attribute to the functionality of the creature which is one that has almost no vulnerabilities.
Dear studioADI, I really respect the work here. All the work is amazing and beautiful. I am trying to sculpt one of the aliens and having problems around the jaw. Is is possible for you to shortly answer, please: How do you make jaws stick together - how many parts are there for the head and what is the material @4:28? Thank you a lot.
That thing at the end was realistic as fuck!. No to mention the epic work behind the mass production of the Alien species done for this movie. someone need to put the "ADI" logo in the side of the Alien ship on Lv-426 in order to make a proper joke-reference. But I still have a question, the Aliens in the swiming scene were all CGI or there was one lucky stunt swiming in an Alien suite that day?.
I understand the director wanted a more organic alien , but it just didn't work with the alien. it should have still been bio mechanical. and it just wasn't...same with avp abd avpr. hopefully the future films stick with biomechanical over pure organic.
I find it somewhat ironic that the music used in the background in this video dealing with the Xenomorphs has a more relaxed and happy rhythm, when the Alien franchise is action and horror (but more of the latter). But in the min. 3:26 the music is getting more serious.
It's a wonderful creature design that gets too much flak, but I'm not entirely buying the hybrid argument. The concept art clearly shows that this was a starting point, but the final design is really just a naturalistic translation of the Giger design, sans biomechanical aspects. BUT ADI's Alien3 design was already very fleshy and translated pipes into organic tubes, hard exoskeleton joints into bendy limbs etc, and had digitigrade legs with animalistic feet AND moved as a quadroped, all as per the A:R creature *despite* this apparently new human DNA component (the Giger design was more humanoid in many ways). The A:R Queen upper body and head was Cameron's insectoid biomech version (clearly for cost reasons), yet that queen was also a hybrid. So no consistency there. Not to mention this supposedly human/alien hybrid design from A:R was reused in both AVP movies, where there is no human DNA involved at all. I don't think anyone realised how much the fans cared for the Giger original, and only in recent years have ADI felt the need to justify their design in this way. They should be proud of it instead; the artistic direction of the look is not their call or their fault, and their alien designs are awesome in their own way, even if my preference is for the 'full Giger'.
JonMacFhearghuis I am a HUGE Alien fan and I do greatly appreciate Giger’s design but I don’t prefer the full Giger look, in fact Big Chap is my least favorite and thank the movie monster gods that it didn’t have eyes like the the original sketches, eyes would have totally killed it for me. Now I don’t hate the Big Chap design but I dislike some things such as the appendage on the upper back between the first set of dorsal spines, that feature clutters the look, more importantly it hinders the ability for the Xeno to look up and run on all fours, the next feature I will mention is the tubes extending from the back of the lower jaw down towards the lower neck, the tube should run flat against the surface of the neck because when its loose it would be vulnerable to being cut, the head was too long and my last nit pick is the feet, they looked like it was wearing cloggs. Once again I still love the creature and the movie is a masterpiece but the design wasn’t. I also don’t favor the Resurrection look either, my favorites are the Runner/Ox/dog, the one we see in Covenant and then the Queen from Aliens is my all time favorite creature creation. The Runner is absolute perfection, I wouldn’t change a thing about it, the Queen is almost perfect but I would change the feet slightly and for the one in Covenant I would have liked to of seen a few more biomechanical features. When designing a creature every part of the body should have a purpose and contribute to the functionality of the creature, sure you can add things for aesthetic purposes as long as they don’t hinder performance. With that said the Xenomorph and Predator are my favorite creature creations of all time, I love anything that features them and I hope we get much more of their badassness in the future. Oh and I was also confused when you said there was no human DNA involved in the Xenos from the AVP films because all of them besides the Predalien (which is a marvelous design) had burst from human hosts.
I love your videos! I also love alien Hahah, even if I don't work or do stuff that remotely resembles the wickedly cool stuff you do, this is very inspiring ❤️
Since the sketches you can tell this design is a failed aberration of Giger's design, to pretend telling the story of DNA resurrected things that no longer deserved to be called Alien not even Xenomorphs. So... ADI nailed it. Far much better than Covenant thing.
Brandon Spain Giger only said that because Fox tried to discredit him for Alien: Resurrection, his name wouldn’t have been shown in the ending credits and most importantly he would not have been paid. After a lot of bickering Fox still ended up not including his name or giving him credit. Afterward Giger stated how he truthfully felt about Alien: Resurrections Xenomorph, the following is the exact statement he wrote... “I always wanted my Alien to be a very beautiful thing, not just something disgusting, not just a monster, but something aesthetic. Throughout the creature’s evolution what they’ve done is change it from something aesthetic to something that looks like shit - I mean literally, it looks like a turd.” ~ HR Giger, Alien Evolution, 2001. I don’t know how you can think that the Resurrection Xeno resembles anything that is illustrated in Giger’s Necronomicon. The first Alien was the closest design to Giger’s vision and I am not here because I hate this version of the Xeno, in fact I do not care for the look of the Big Chap, it also has design flaws that would make it hard for the creature to do certain things, I do like some features of this design, It has no design flaws and it is the only aspect I like about Alien: Resurrection. Personally my favorite Xeno is the Runner/Ox/Dog, I really like the version we get in Alien: Covenant, the Predalien from AVPR is also magnificent and the Queen Alien from Aliens is my ultimate favorite. So make sure you know what your talking about before you state false information in multiple comments, Yes Giger said those words but he didn’t really mean it, he just wanted credit and to be paid for his designs and he actually said the Resurrection design was more similar to his design then both Aliens and Alien 3, yet he was still credited for those films.

As much as I appreciate the talent, art and hard work that went into these, I didn't like Resurrection. The excess skin on the upper teeth and the moving back tendrils, etc, just felt wrong to me.The egg flaps quivering instead of opening the traditional way. The way they were communicating, screeching back and forth when trying to decide which one of would be the sacrifice for the escape. The queen in a lying down position, giving birth to the Newborn. When the alien puts it's tongue through the back of General Perez's head, he stays alive long enough to slowly reach back and pluck a piece of this brain out and look at it, etc, etc, etc. As much as I love all things Alien related, this entire movie was the red headed step child of the series. So much wrong with it. Alien 3 should have been the end of it, just as it was intended to be.
NotMorganFreeman different genetic situations where hey would act differently...easy to explain. Can't, explain that guy looking at his own brains though.
"General Perez's head, he stays alive long enough to slowly reach back and pluck a piece of this brain out and look at it" - LOL! I remember, me and my buddy went to see this movie during senior skip day in high school and when that part happened we looked at each other and laughed. He said "What the hell is this?!" It was so hilariously bad. I felt kind of ashamed because I convinced him to go see it with me. Almost 20 years later and I haven't gotten up the strength to watch that movie again since, even though I own two copies of it as part of the DVD and Blu-Ray Quadrilody packs. I 100% agree that Alien 3 should have ended the series. It was a perfect end and is still a criminally underrated and underappreciated film.
I agree with everything you said except the movement of what you call the tendrils, they are actually called dorsal tubes and it makes perfect sense that they move or else the Xeno would have trouble turning its head while moving on all fours also when looking up, plus it would have trouble moving through tight spaces and the tubes could be damaged easily. But yeah Resurrection was so awful, I have watched it multiple times trying to like it unfortunately I can’t, there are too many terrible things to list, what I hated most was the atrocious dialogue, most of the actors, the majority of the story, Xeno design and that fucking newborn thing was ridiculously stupid, when it gets sucked out the window hole was the best part of the film for me. I can’t figure out how they dropped the ball with such an awesome concept that has so many creative possibilities and they had an amazing budget. As much as I love the franchise I don’t care for A:R.
Alien 3 had the most beatiful alien, alien 4 had the most realistic and organic movements in comparison to the other,if alien 3 had those aspects will have been the perfect alien
Everything is awesome but the hands imo, those way too short thumb, and pinkys, with those waaaaaay too long two middle fingers, just not very practical at all, just think would have been lot better looking, and more realistically practical if two middle fingers were slightly shorter, while thumb and pinky just a little longer, could still have the middle ones stick out more, just think they over did it, doesn't even seem like could grab, and or hold anything with those hands\fingers being way they were
It's a shame that this, the worst xeno design by far, has been the one that's lasted the longest. It's constructed beautifully, but it's just an ugly design, head to toe.
