The heart put into this video shows true appreciation for a video game that means a lot for a lot of people. All the original songs are straight up bops.
This comment warms my heart, and is much appreciated. We did in fact put a lot of time and effort in to making this in appreciation and honor of an incredible game. A lot of the dialogue used throughout the musical is straight from the game, and makes the whole experience even more nostalgic, at least for me. (Josh) Thank you so much for your compliment on the songs, and i agree, they ARE bops ;) Love, Josh
When we first started shooting, we wondered if it would be the right move for him to speak like that the ENTIRE musical, but from the moment we heard him in the first scene, we knew that it was the only way haha.
"Brothers Ballad" reminds me of that episode of Spongebob where Spongebob had to work at the Chum Bucket and he and Mr. Krabs sang to each other from across the street.
I've held off playing this game because I get scared of the ghost levels in Mario, let alone an entire game where the player has to fight every single ghost in the game. Creepy Steeple in Paper Mario TTYD was for me the hardest part to get through, and that was mostly mad-dashing through the area with the volume down! Your musical is absolutely amazing, with its camera work, costume creativity, song strength both in lyrics and the composition, and emotional depth. Kudos especially to the actors for Peach, Luigi, and King Boo with their stellar pipes!! It's something like magic to see the mansion and peach's? castle in live-action, kudos to whoever found the filming locations! I really enjoyed Luigi's growth arc here, though I understand why the game keeps Luigi scared, so as to keep the player in a constant state of anxiety. I also like the levels of Luigi's growth in the musical. First it was like, yeah!! I'm a hero!!!! when he first gets a handle on the Poltergust 3000. But when he meets King Boo he's terrified again, and the second growth is him becoming a True Hero. The reunion of the bros was really touching, like way beyond, aww, they're back together! and more like, I thought they'd never find each other again! and the way they embraced showed that they had a very real fear of Mario being permanently trapped in the painting and Luigi saving the day was in no way a foregone conclusion. Also Mario not just springing out happily, but he was tired and disoriented and we get the sense his experience of being trapped in the painting was harrowing. I also like his line about him not being used to being the damsel. Loved how you adapted Bowser's costume into one that would work well on a human, the voice distortion really sold it! Great acting from Boswer's actor! Kudos to Luigi's actor for nailing his scream of terror and his fearful gaze. Favorite songs: I like all of them, but my favorite is the lyrics to Luigi's Mansion!! But some lyrics really stood out: "I'll finally know what it's like to be in Mario's world" "But you'll always be out of place" "I'm not afraid of the shadows, it's not like I've never been there before" "Now it's your turn to be frightened, I won't run anymore" The plot-twisty moments that make the viewer realize, wow, even in his own story he's a non-entity. And seeing Luigi's sadness, frustration, and a brief flash of anger, and then total devastation, was really emotional. I really love the themes and juxtapositions in the visuals and song. That awesome sequence during "Mario's World" where Mario's beating down Bowser and Luigi looks downcast and then gives a supportive thumbs-up but he can only feign so much enthusiasm after being there to cheer his bro again and again for years. And yet, the lyrics convey he feels boundless adoration for Mario. This was a tricky balance for the characterization, and you succeeded, to show both Luigi's pain and his longing for recognition, while reigning in Luigi's more destructive feelings like outright jealousy. The other juxtaposition that popped out for me was how Mario fights during the day, Luigi fights at night. Luigi has an noticeable relationship to literal shadow. Luigi's initially afraid of the shadows that settle much easier on him, like when he holds up the paper saying that he won the mansion half of Luigi's face is covered by shadow. He looks resolute, ambitious, and totally looks like he could take on King Boo right then and there, until Boo shatters Luigi's illusions about the purpose of the mansion. When he actually takes on King Boo, Luigi is lit so the shadows play around and on him to maximum effect and he himself looks scary. He is fighting evil, but he himself being in the shadows perhaps subconsciously, draws strength from them. I enjoyed the performances of Toad, hilarously shrill, E. Gadd, good rapper, and Clairvoya's actors---who behaved creepy and unsettlingly although a protagonist and enjoyed the performances of King Boo--imperious, taunting, theatrical, and the performances of the ghosts, appropriately menacing but in a forlorn way. This musical is top-notch, thank you for putting it into the world!!!
Unemployedscholar seeing this comment truly brought joy to my heart. Being a film type myself, having someone so thoroughly analyze one of my works is truly one of the greatest honors I could ever know. You went above and beyond a regular comment and broke down tons of little details. A few things, such as Luigi’s symbolism to a shadow, I had never even considered despite the fact that I filmed all of it! Seeing you make these connections gives the film more of a rich subtext than I had even imagined, you’re putting ideas in my head about my own movie so that’s impressive 😂 All in all, it was a truly wonderful joint effort between dozens of people. I’m so glad that you enjoyed it, and that you kindly for taking the time to comment and make my day like this. Maybe someday soon, you’ll be able to leave another in-depth comment on our next musical! :) Thanks again, and I wish ya the best! -Blake
Thank you so much for reading and replying, and that you liked my thorough analysis of your production! It's those details that keep me coming back to obsessively watch and re-watch a particular work, whether the author intended for the details to be symbolic I usually don't know, so thanks for sharing that you weren't thinking of the Luigi shadow symbolism when you filmed it, that's somehow even cooler, that your lighting and camera work produced certain visually striking effects but the character symbolism was unintentional! The connections I made aren't wholly original but based on certain parts of canon where Luigi has been introspective, caustic, tough-love, hostile/aggressive with seemingly little provocation, and/or jealous. Luigi has usually been the deeper thinker of the Bros., and vulnerable to somewhat darker moods even in canon. In your film/musical Luigi was deeply introspective and really got to reveal his thoughts and aspirations in song--which is another strength of your musical: there were no unnecessary songs, each moved the plot forward or served as character development. And King Boo's song was very classic musical theater, that wickedly jaunty piano! So my making connections was part of figuring out what kind of Luigi is the version of Luigi in this musical, and so I concluded the kind who is energized by the shadows but never lets himself be consumed by the darkness. He has been prone to some extent of darkness even in the first live-action episode of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show. (No joke! Luigi deprives Mario of food by drawing a line in their apartment that Mario has to stay on one side of until he learns to be less of a "slob"!) Nowadays, the most common kind of independent video focusing on the Bros. is jealous/villain/borderline villain Luigi, but I think this is the first one I saw which focuses on introspective Luigi, which stands out because when Luigi's introspective he can't filter his vulnerability through anger, but he is still a character comfortable in the darkness. In your work we get an emotionally complex Luigi, as well as a Luigi who is entirely sympathetic, and without villifying Mario which makes your production unique, refreshing, and respectful to canon. That's great you were able to collaborate with the many people who contributed to the film/musical. I'm so glad I was able to make your day with my analysis of your film/musical. I'm looking forward to commenting on your next one, is it still Super Mario Sunshine? Welcome and thank you!
I know how you feel when I was a kid I was to afraid to even look at Mario. For some reason that floating head of his used to give me nightmares every night. So I refrained from playing any Mario games for a while. But the more you do something the less scary it is. Other times it just slips right by you.

Hello. My kids recently discovered this through Apple Music and they absolutely love it. We want to thanks you for creating this entertainment rendition of Luigi’s story. You did an amazing job.
Infinity War cost about $400 million, so I'm guessing this cost one gaztrillion dollars to make cause it's so freaking good. Seriously, every part of this was great. I loved Ghost Bustin' and Brothers Ballad especially!
We love YOU especially! You are not only the nicest person at Yale, but the smartest person at Yale, AND the CUTEST person at Yale... Your wife is pretty cool too
Toad is the GOAT. Loved this guys, really great job on the songs on top of the camera movements and lighting. The final two songs really brought it home.
Thanks so much Nick, we're glad that you enjoyed it! The lighting scheme was something entirely new to us while shooting, so we're happy to know you liked it!
This is pretty great! I think it's kinda funny that Mario gave Bowser a noogie during their fight, and I loved the wordplay in some of the later songs. Luigi using picture metaphors and Mario telling Luigi not to look a*ghast* in Brothers' Ballad, King Boo making the (fairly obvious) pun of "not a *ghost* of a chance," and the fact that Luigi flashes his light on King Boo as he says "spotlight." And is Luigi saying that he's been in the shadows before referencing him being in Mario's shadow all this time? Again, great work!
Seabass the Gamer you caught a lot of references. good eye!! And yes, we were referring to Luigi being in Mario’s shadow. There are more references to find, but you’ve found some good ones!!
The fact that Cal looks like he is about to crack up after every line is my favorite thing! I love this so much! You are all so amazingly creative, and I hope you continue to do these things!
This is incredible! The writing, acting, camera work, and music were all so great. I loved the nostalgic throwbacks to the game (one of my favorites of all time), and I also loved the creative liberties you guys took. Now I'm even more pumped for Luigi's Mansion 3!
This whole video was pure gold. MY SON LOOK AT MY BOY GO!! The cast did an incredible job, the songs were awesome, and it was filmed so well!! Nice job guys, you brought my childhood to life!!
I have commented on this video with 3 different accounts. I just always keep coming back to this video. It's So beautifully made and reminds me of my childhood. I've been here since the beginning and I just wanted to say I really love your stuff. I literally know all the words to all the songs from this one and Mario sunshine. I feel like I have put half the views on this video which is sad because it deserves so much more credit.

I can't believe I'm just finding this now, this musical was an amazing watch. A 42 minute musical must've been no easy feat to make, glad people like you guys are on youtube willing to put in this much effort to make something great.
The only time where I felt sad for a portrait ghost was when you gave the last item to Madame Clairvoya. She said that she can finally rest, and she taunted Luigi (which was a stark contrast to her previous encounters) before getting the painting treatment.
@@RaptureFilms I saw omg I was so hyped that there's more coming. I have no idea how these aren't more popular! I've been showing a bunch of people this one and everyone loves it :D
Came here after I was linked to your trailer for sunshine- this is amazing. Thank you for this, I am very depressed this year and this is a truly wholesome labor of love to witness
@@batnick4433 So, it was a combination of props actually. I spent about $150 buying paint, glue, screws, leather, and old vacuum pieces from Lowe's and a discount vacuum repair store. I spray painted it all myself, and assembled it with contact cement. The majority of the parts that look like the Poltergust were already there, like how the vacuum was shaped, but I had to paint it and glue the vacuum tube and handle to it. Then we taped a flashlight to it, and added the green piece from a broken Rick and Morty Portal gun. Hopefully that helps! -Blake
I had trouble sleeping, then came across this at around 1:00 am. Unbeknownst to me, I was enveloped in an exciting and heartfelt story based off of a creepy game I loved as a child. This film obviously shows a lot of effort, and since it makes me smile, I'm 100% liking and Subscribing. I can't wait to see more Mario movies hopefully in the Future, since this is probably the best thing I've found on TH-cam
John_ 5716 this comment nearly made me shed a tear. Thank you so much for checking out our video and subscribing! What was your favorite song from the musical?
Rapture Films I honestly liked Mario’s World, it sounded like something straight from a Musical, it’s absolutely awesome. The tone and the lyrics match so well, I could listen to it all day
John_ 5716 so glad you enjoyed it! I like that one a lot because it features most of the main cast. It’s fun! If you are interested, all of the music is on Spotify
Luigi may not be as experienced or as brave as Mario but he runs faster and jumps higher also he has longer arms and legs so he's able to hit from farther distances
Fito Catso thank you so much! We plan on doing more projects like this in the future (cough, Mario sunshine, cough) so maybe subscribe and stick around? 😉
Are you guys planning to do a super mario sunshine musical if so you guys rule thank you so much for making a musical out Of Luigi's mansion. The best game ever
We don't want to make any promises we can't keep just yet, but we're very happy that you enjoyed the musical! If you'd like, you can stream the album for free on Spotify now! :) open.spotify.com/album/6MBP7MQMECyF4LhsVBkdSh
Retro Luigi gamer thank you so very much, your comment means a lot to us! We worked very hard on all the music, and at the moment, we’re considering doing a Super Mario Sunshine Musical in the future!
Storyboard Sketch good question! We’re incredibly proud of how well it’s done, but excited for the possibility of more. Feel free to show some friends ☺️
The writing supporb. The acting just perfect it actually tore at a couple heart strings of mine. Especially the part where they sang “I need you!” It just really makes me glad especially considering everything else he still cares about his brother besides the fact of being under his shadow still. And the matter of the fact that Luigi gets all of the attention he deserved after 3 decades. I hope to see more from u. U definitely deserve more likes, subscribers and views and I wish on ur luck of getting a million subscribers, you definitely deserved it. This project probably took you alot of time and effort, thanks again for making my day.
Miku Lover the chemistry between Mario and Luigi wasn’t all acting (pretty legit bromance there.) so glad you enjoyed it! Mario sunshine the musical coming in the future!
8:23 Peach used teleport :3 Brother's Ballad and Luigi's Mansio were awesome while all the songs were great these 2 are my favorite! The credits theme is rocking as well! I'm super glad I randomly found this vid today it is easily the best live action mario parody I've seen and maybe the best mario parody I've seen period 😄
agr0nianTV so glad you enjoyed it! Those two songs are some of my favorites (Mario from the musical) as well! We are currently working on the sequel if you are interested in sticking around 💁🏼
@@RaptureFilms Oh I will be, you'll see me on your parody stuff for sure. To think I only found you guys cause I was looking for a specific Luigi's Mansion theme remix.
Honestly, i never played the original Luigi's mansion, only the second because I was borned after the first came out. And I was able to play the first one on 3DS 2 months ago. I never knew there was a first Luigi's mansion until it was announced in october 2018. Ive seen videos of the portraits ghosts and even tho I didn't had the game at that time, I fell in love with these. Ive tried to find a Musical of Luigi's mansion and didn't found until now.
Man, Luigi deserves more credit and have more games for him beside luigis mansion and new super Luigi U, because new super Luigi U was basically just new super Mario bros U but you only have 100 seconds on each level and a hidden Luigi.
You have just earned a sub. This video was awesome. Keep up the great work. This is definitely one of my favorite adaptations of this game. It’s faithful to the original game, which I love. Great job.
@@nickizor So, that Poltergust is totally custom-made. I spent about $200 in parts all together! I went to a vacuum store and bought old defunct vacuums, then tore them apart for different pieces. Once they were all off, I used masking tape for it all and spray painted them, then started the assembly. I had to hand paint the E-Gadd symbol, and then used contact cement to attach the green test tube and the nozzle and vacuum head. Finally I used some wood screws to attach leather strips as backpack straps, and VOILA. A Poltergust! Hope that helped, it was quite a challenging, but fun project to take on. -Blake
This is so inspiring!! I love this. The acting(especially Toad!), costumes, and music are all great! My favorite original is Mario's World. I love all the talent and passion that went into this. It really shows! You've gained a new subscriber!
Dorothy Davis thank you so much! This comment means so much, as well as the sub! Mario’s world was fun for us since it featured so many cast members. Glad to have you as a part of the rapture films family! :) - josh (Mario)
I love this!!! are you going to do a follow up? like make a dark moon musical? that would be great! I love how you used your surroundings to make Peache's castle and Luigi's house and of course Luigi's mansion
The possibility is certainly out there for us to do another musical, but we don't want to get your hopes up with a promise we can't keep!
Just wanted to drop another comment to let you know we're doing a giveaway! You should check out our latest upload if you're interested :)
Luigi was sad, he always lived under his brother Mario's shadow & the green sad plumber who never got the spotlight.☹️😔
Thank you so much! We worked very hard on this, and we are happy to see people enjoying it. I'm also incredibly excited for luigi's mansion 3!
This whole video was pure gold. MY SON LOOK AT MY BOY GO!! The cast did an incredible job, the songs were awesome, and it was filmed so well!! Nice job guys, you brought my childhood to life!!
Mintea In Space this is so kind, thank you!
Super production, guys! The pacing and singing was really top-notch, and the sound direction was great!

The only time where I felt sad for a portrait ghost was when you gave the last item to Madame Clairvoya. She said that she can finally rest, and she taunted Luigi (which was a stark contrast to her previous encounters) before getting the painting treatment.

Barely 4 minutes in and already I want this to be done live
We'd be happy to perform it live if ever given the opportunity! Lol
That would awesome. I’m also wondering how the Poltergust was made?

Rapture Films It is?? Alright I’m downloading it now
Luigi may not be as experienced or as brave as Mario but he runs faster and jumps higher also he has longer arms and legs so he's able to hit from farther distances
Luigi has proven that he is a capable hero in his own right, for sure! The Mario Bros are not to be taken lightly!
a numbers guy
Actually Mario and Luigi run at the same speed but in some games Mario is faster and in others luigi was faster.
WOW Legendary
Is it normal that i just fricking cried at the ending when Luigi saved Mario and they hugged. Just one thing...
ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE
The crazy thing is I'm dressing up as Luigi from Luigi's Mansion for Halloween this year.

"I don't want the ghosts to hear me!" -Starts Singing-
Admiral Ackbar oh my. This. This is a gaping flaw. We must REDO THE FILM WHERE HE SINGS IN WHISPERS

Rapture Films Of course. Glad to see my favorite game in a very faithful (and amazing) adaptation.
Also, I do have a question about the Poltergust. Is that a custom-made model, or is there a place you bought that from?
Nick Izor it was a pre existing model that we customized to look like the poltergust
