I believe that the missile registers the thermal signature of the initial target and its position, that's why it is able to return to the old target, this makes it practically impossible for it to hit the aircraft that shot even more so that the thermal signature of a Flanker will be different from a GripenGripen, because of the two engines vs one There are certainly other factors that must guarantee safety to prevent the missile from returning against the aircraft itself, but I don't know how to stipulate about them

From what I've seen in this video, the Gripen has shown to me that it's a very dangerous fighter for opponents. In my opinion, this aircraft matches some of the high tech USAF and USN aircraft such as the F-15, F16, F-18, and maybe even the F-22, in a dogfight that is. Also, amazing video GS! You inspire me everyday to keep my goal of becoming a fighter pilot. Keep up the great work!
There is a reason why the Gripen didnt perform against the F-35, Eurofighter, Rafale and the F-18E/F in the recent evaluations (e.g. Switzerland and Finland).

@@dreaminknight While I will be the first to admit that Gripen is overrated, I would not think that was necessarily due to poor dogfighting ability. With HMD and HOBS it should be able to match those fighters. BVR is of course a different matter where its weak radar would put the Gripen at a disadvantage (and hopeless against F-22).

I constantly hear the roar from the Jas planes above me. I literally live in the city Saab was based in, well at least the part of Saab that makes the planes. That Saab that made cars was based somewhere else.
9x is all aspect seeking, and can launch high off bore axis, but yes, it had no target memory, or guidance routine to turn around if it registers a miss. The fact that an a2a missile does this is telling me there have been significant advances in missile energy endurance, becauae acoustic homing torpedoes have been programmed with such search patterns since ww2, and their only advantage is endurance.
Would be awesome, but unless they do with 39C what they did with RB-15 I don't think that will happen any time soon. And I really hope they don't do that, for Sweden's sake.
Thailand's Gripens up against various Chinese fighters including flankers showed that it was evenly matched in dogfights- but in BVR the Gripen absolutely shredded the flankers.
Thailand has Gripen C/D, lets not confuse the matching of different models. You can't say that Gripen was evenly matched with anyone without stating what model, it gives no inclination of anything. It's like comparing an F15 from 1972 with an F35 without saying that it is an older model. Having that said, I would argue that BVR is where it's at with the next gen fighters generally speaking. F35 was not really made for dogfights either etc.

Gripen C can dogfight any of those fighters.
