The ridiculous idea that people have concerning downtown Dallas being a tourist destination never ceases to amaze me. The business people that ran downtown Dallas in the 60s and 70s had the brilliant idea that they were not going to do what the East Coast cities head done. Downtown was for business and nothing else. It wasn’t until downtown was pretty much the way it is now that they realized that it was a terrible idea to have an empty downtown after 5 PM. By then it was too late to change it. Ever since then the city has been trying to get people to move downtown. In 2005 there were about 200 people living there. Things are changing with the construction of new apartment buildings and condominiums in the last 10 to 15 years and there are more than 15,000 people now living in downtown but it’s going to take time to have downtown Dallas population density high enough to have people in big numbers, living and walking the streets. If you don’t see any people in downtown Dallas when you visit, it’s not because they are hiding. It’s because they are working in all the tall office buildings and have better things to do than walk around for no reason.
it is sad that as cars continue to dominate the landscape of major cities they don't offer opportunities for pedestrian traffic. Philadelphia, NYC, Chicago, Baltimore are a few exceptions. but overall too many US cities are poorly planned. It is a hassle to drive and find parking in many cities where the main attractions are located.
@@jdmcmul0325 Very sad and poor planning. All this sprawl just alienates people and communities. It's why people take pride in their neighborhoods that are more connected.

@@XTRABIGThat's been the problem with Dallas since I have been here 33 years. Hardly no foot traffic. Sadly.
