My favorite part was how when Emma couldn't get something on the first try, Mary just explained what to do instead of stepping in and doing it herself. And then Emma would get it right away! I feel like if Mary's health permitted she would make an amazing child life specialist because she's so good at explaining everything in a way that kids understand without it sounding "dumbed down".

This actually brought tears to my eyes. When I first got my tube, my little niece was about 5. My husband and I lived with them on and off and we see her almost as a surrogate daughter with her older brother as our surrogate son (we won't/cant have our own). She had her own medical issues but was struggling watching what was happening to me. We found that one of the most healing actions was teaching her how to perform everything necessary for my care. She learned to prepare my medications to go through the tube (and learned how to slowly push them and flush) and prepare my pump and bags for my feedings. Because I have a genetic condition, her diagnosis and the discovery that her medical issues were caused by the same underlying disease process was no surprise. It was so difficult to discover that one of the people I love most in the world had the same progressive/terminal disease and would follow a path similar to mine but it brought us together and bonded us. 8 months ago, she got her own feeding tube and her nurses and doctors were shocked by her bravery, comprehension, and independence. If any one asked, she'd reply "My Auntie Chelsea has a tubie and I know all about them because I did everything for her." She is now a teen and lives over 1000 miles away but we frequently Skype and our bond has only solidified with time. Because she saw everything she's experiencing happen to me first, she has a strange peace with the process. I'm so incredibly proud of her. Anyways, I didn't intend to blabber on so much but I did want to thank you for the gift you gave to her. Although I don't watch your channel daily, you and Peter never fail to impress. In solidarity and love, -C

So great to spend time showing Emma your feeding tube. I remember shortly before my Aunt passed away she took time to show me about her IV fluids and O2 tubing. I am now a nurse. I doubt I was much older than Emma so even though it may not seem like a big deal it truly is.

My mom worked at Dolly Madison hostess for over 30 years. She worked on line 1 which was mostly zingers and a few other products. But working there she hated the smell of everything (and of course seeing what goes in them) she would never let us eat them. One year for my birthday she brought home fresh ones for me to take to school. And when there were shrek twinkies (green filling) she brought us each home one. Other than that I never had anything except little Debbie oatmeal cream cookies. Fun fact, at least when she worked there the workers could eat any product they wanted in the plant, but couldn't take it out (mom snuck is out the shrek twinkies though lol)

Sorry you didn't get the drone out of the tree Peter. Hmmm, wonder if you went to Home Depo if they have anything they can suggest so that you could use to get the drone. Wonder if anyone has a cherry picker truck in that area that you could possibly rent? How about landscaper? Or a tree cutting service?? Not to cut down the tree, but to have someone who's experienced in climbing up the tree.

you would make such a really great beautiful mom Mary. Your so sweet to her. And so much patience to, althought that's not hard to do with such a good little girl as she is. Shes to cute to. Is she family? Shes a sweetie by the way. I watch you all the time and I think your such an inspiration to many in the feeding tube community and also the terminally ILL community as well as I'm in both sides and also the port community to, You just take all this with stride and keep on keeping on and that great. And your right we have to spend as much time with our loved ones as we can cause we never know when it will be our last moment with them. So to all reading this spend your time wisely and spend it with those you love and also spend some time helping those in need. God Bless you and Peter. And may Gods mercy and blessings come upon you both and bless you a lot....

Your so positive :) thanks for your stories with your portacath. I'm currently at home waiting for the bruising to go down and for it to feel more normal. :)
