My issue with exclusives is that he makes the figures people really want as exclusives. Let Target have the Jokerized stuff. That is what an exclusive should be. A figure that looks interesting, but is not needed to complete the line. Classic versions of characters should never be an exclsuive.
honestly i think Todd listens pretty well, it takes a second for him to get it to us but he has listened fairly well. now i absolutely agree with the harley and poison ivy point. we need more comic versions or at least close ones. like the suicide squad version was her in a dress. we couldn’t get the cool suit she had in the first 15 minutes of the movie?? or at least a variant? idk. sometimes his picks just don’t make sense but who knows if thats him or dc
He's doing a lot more right than wrong. Unlike the competition that is too stubborn to learn the easy way, he listens to fan criticism. Got rid of ball joints and side eye. He needs to release COMPLETELY painted figures. No more Supermans with unpainted boots, especially if you're going to charge $30. Looks like his figures in very recent history have included more gesture hands (both movie and comic Blue Beetles, and Riddler, and kid Dick Grayson), he has less reuse on accessories than Legends. Beyond the lightning effects, how many unique swords, guns, and batarangs have we gotten? He needs to make accessories a more common thing, and start giving us them with Mega Figs. Keep Page Punchers going. Those are some of the best figures, and each wave is improving, BUT make each figure include part of a 4 part comic story! Start making diorama pieces like Fortress of Solitude, Batcave, Atlantis, etc. And FULL STOP with all these damn exclusives! It's even hard in America. I shouldn't be sweating over whether I'll be able to get the best Flash figure maybe ever made! I'm lucky as hell I managed to get the Supes/Doomsday 2 pack! I had to order my New 52 Ocean Master off of Amazon because both my local Targets decided "nah....". His ever improving character selection is the aspect that's growing the quickest, I believe. We're about to get Hawkman, Sinestro, Firestorm, Brainiac, and later Steel and Cyborg Superman. There are plenty of female characters we need from him. There's still a little bit of Superman's main rogues gallery to dive into. A good bit of Batman's. Plenty of opportunity in Flash's. Could have some real interesting ones in WW's as of yet untapped rogues gallery. Not that anything in her's is going to outclass the Storm Collectibles Ares I have, but still. Need the remaining four Lantern Corps leaders (Larfleeze, Saint Walker, Iroque, and Star Sapphire) with Kilowog as the BAF. See? This isn't so hard. If McFarlane says female figures don't sell well, then do some that we're all waiting for and make them part of a BAF wave where the BAF is irresistible! Do a wave of Perez era WW, New 52 Tony S. Daniel Cheetah, Kapatelis cyborg style Silver Swan, and Circe with Perez style Ares in blue armor as BAF. Weather Wizard, Mirror Master, classic comic Captain Cold and Heat Wave with Girder as BAF.
Thanks SO much for this extremely helpful video for this newbie collector. I’m energized by your enthusiasm and attention to detail for such a great and nerdy hobby. I also appreciate you showing up on camera, too. It really personalizes the viewers experience and just feels so much more… dare I say… human! Keep up the fantastic and fun videos, fellow collector!
In terms of REUSE, I think it has something to with the DC license, we have to remember that this is supposedly the last year of their contract (before the renewal) and it takes months or even a year of planning, prototypes, manufacturing before a product is released to the market. So Todd is probably considering that and the cost of tooling, that's why he opted to reuse lot of old figures/mold just in case the license doesn't get renewed.
All great points. I love this line but I do think it's hit and miss with some figures, but I love the figures I do have in my collection. My main gripe with the line is how hard it's getting now to get certain figs. Some people miss out entirely unless they pay above the odds to scalpers.
@@thenotoriousunc yet those same people who are defending Todd MacFarlane by saying that the reason he makes so many Batman figures is because he’s a top seller yet you can see a bunch of Batman figures warming the pegs in Walmart and target because the Batman figures that are selling off the shelves are the ones are comic accurate like the bronze age Batman or the ones that you call “Knightfall” or Michael Keaton Batman Todd McFarlanes idiotic interview and his sickening fetish, for Batman has made him look quite pathetic So yeah take that as you will
How many Spider-Man figs do you own ? How many thors ,captain America or iron man has hasbro made ? They just sold you a 3 pk of Spider-Man the excact same figure and now selling it again 😆 so it is hypocritical to speak of what McFarland does when all these companies sell endless tmnt, endless power rangers or dragon ball figures all the same way . Stop it @@Christian_Ada1
Case in point, basically anything exclusive to the McFarlane online store sells out immediately due to scalpers and then just never shows up on secondhand sites except for very occasionally.
With the Jokerized and line art stuff if it pays for new molds later and others like it I'm cool with it because I'm not forced to buy it. There's one question with more accessories is would you pay I higher price point to get them if needed and for me a lot of them end up in a box of parts so I wouldn't but I know some would want to pay more. They're always going to give variants first before a classic because it makes good business sense and every line does this and you know it's coming especially like the Robin, patience. Like I said these things pay for what we want and give some options.
I'm find with the Jokerized stuff and line art as if they sell it means there's an audience for it. I wish they were better executed. I just strongly dislike figures like King Shazam and Jokerized Nightwing being wide releases while proper versions are locked behind multipacks and store exclusives. That's absolute nonsense. It's also a little frustrating when more obvious recolors are being used or those get locked behind multipacks or exclusives. The Platinum label stuff has a lot of these figures that should have been wide release as well. Patience when it comes this is not really wise. Wait and then you find that first figure go out of stock. Wait just to learn the correct figure is a Walmart exclusive. As a simple form of respect, just release the classic/most wanted version first and then announce the variant. Reward customers as opposed to blackmailing them. Money can still be made and you get happy customers as a result(and probably happier retailers not left holding pegwarmers). Accessories - I'd pay a higher price if these accessories were above and beyond. Not basic accessories everyone else gives you like alt hands, heads, an a power effect.
@@DesignIncase true, I did miss out on some like the Azrael Batman for example and had to pay in the aftermarket for being patient. I might miss out on this new Doomsday too if they don't rerelease it's the risk I'm taking for playing that wait game. It's been case by case personally and how bad I want a character or find a release interesting enough to have a different version. It is shady to put out varients first I agree because they are hoping to get people double dipping to make more money. It's been a fun line to collect overall though and like a lot of what McFarlane is doing.
Fair points. I enjoyed your video. I loved the Shazam 2 WW. Yes the tiara should have been sculpted to the head but I like the head sculpt for an un helmeted Golden Armor figure. The tiara as an accessory was nice. As a collector you definitely make valid points and I definitely appreciate your critique. Making it make sense for collectors is important. Especially with comic media. I love McFarlane figures and they are definitely improving and there is always room for improvement.
Just facts. McFarlane Toys NEED to see this. They really need like a collector consultant or so to just help to solve this issues. Maybe for Atom for example a new body for spandex buff guys would be good and flash a spandex slim guy
INCREDIBLE video!! You touched upon each and every single valid point in regards to the DC Multiverse line, with things that I like, as well as the concerns that we have with collecting the line. I felt like you had reached inside my head, pulled out each and every thought I had for the line both pros and cons. I love this line, however there are things that needed to be corrected. Great job dude👍
Very good video, level-headed, fair and when it seemed like it was mostly a very personal view/opinion you acknowledged that. I usually see these rant videos on TH-cam and quickly let the algorithm know not to recommend that channel again, but this was was quite good.
You are 100% spot on The thing that’s pissing me off is now Classic Supergirl is a target exclusive, and it is now a pre-order sold out. Like why? I’m a huge Wonder Woman fan since the 70s and now I’m afraid that the classic Wonder Woman won’t be found anywhere and the action figure it’s gonna probably cost $100. Like why??
I mostly agree but with some points like the reuse, like you said a lot of the first 3 years was a lot of brand new molds and tooling on almost every release. I even knew there was no way he could keep that up as consistently. That’s why instead of reuse for grey scale variants that he was doing more so around that time, I much rather have reuse for brand new characters. Just like every other domestic line, reuse is inevitable and even with the reuse hes still pushing more unique sculpts than most other retail companies. Also with being a long time legends collector and even dabbling in dc universe classics, I’m well accustomed to repaints. I actually want more of that blue beetle/booster gold buck. It’s like you said it’s a matter of cost and being able to pump out new sculpts he’s gonna release any possible variant he can. Which also bleeds into your other point of why he does release a lesser wanted version of a character first and the the most wanted one after. That’s the toy business practice 101, you can’t release the wanted one first then the lesser one after that people might not purchase as much. It sucks for some but it’s just how it is. That’s why we don’t get waves of just A list characters, you have to keep the customer wanting more.
You took the words right out of my mouth in regards to the concept of why they don’t release the classics first then the alt variants. As much as we don’t like it, that makes sense. A company would be very unwise to pump out all the best figures and then risk the alt variants out after. Although I do feel like Mcfarlane should try a bit more with the variants. First example I can think of is the Red Tim Drake with short sleeves molded, and the circular logo slapped on the oval mold. Had those been fixed to match the figure I don’t think anyone would’ve been upset, it was just so obvious that the classic variant was eventually coming However, I do appreciate that they made the Belt, Cape and Mask different (aside from the color palette). They made those changes, so I’d like them to just see it through
3 minutes in: “welp done with the good points” lol I wanna get the scale thing out first because I’ll die on this particular hill lol A 6’2” man in 1:10th scale is 7.4” tall. Every single Bruce Wayne figure should be about as tall as Hush Batman. He’s not too big. Most scale issues revolve around all Batmans & Supermans being too short. If they made a tall Superman and scaled all Batmans up to Hush the line would be 90% corrected. But instead people will choose their personal favorite Batman (this month it’s knightfall) and get angry not everything scales correctly to their way too short fig. Then get angry at Hush for being correct, because he towers over a Superman barely taller than the teenagers. 🤷🏻♂️ I agree with most of what you’re saying, just kinda lost me when you descended into the classics must come first nonsense. This is a super common misconception about the line where the regular classic comic versions *must* come first dammit. I very much disagree. This is the DC Multiverse line. By it’s very definition it denotes various versions of characters. The loudest collectors want 80’s-90’s versions first and foremost because we’re all in our late thirties and that’s what we like. Unfortunately that’s just one sub-line of DCMV and not the main one, which is modern Rebirth. I absolutely reject the notion that Mcfarlane is “tricking” collectors by “making” them buy other versions before a comic version. If you don’t want Red Suit Robin, don’t buy Red Suit Robin. Don’t buy Arkham City Riddler to go with your comic group, it’s Arkham City Riddler. You can’t proudly call this an adult collector line and in the same breath complain you’re all being tricked like children. There’s this frightened scarcity mentality among collectors that this is the only version of a character we’ll ever get when everything that’s ever been done says otherwise. We got 3 completely comic legit Kyle Lanterns in like 3 months for example. That classics mentality is also what’s getting you all the reuse. And it’s the same reason Marvel Legends has so much reuse, whenever everyone is identically naked with a spray painted costume, there’s no reason to not reuse bodies. Like none. This is why Death Metal & Arkham etc are always unique sculpts practically 100% of the time, they’re not the spandex crew. I also respectfully disagree that this is a collectors line. It’s not. It’s a mass retail line which is absolutely also targeted directly at kids from Todd’s own mouth. Mezco and Mafex are pure collectors lines. DCMV has bendy big weapons and a low price point for a reason. My point is yes there’s a long road ahead, but when compared to the first 3 years of literally any other toyline its practically unheard of what’s been accomplished. Anyway love your channel sorry if the post seemed negative lol Keep up the great work 👌
No, not at all i appreciate your perspective. I probably overstated it a bit with the “classics must come first”. I just feel like we need a bone thrown at us sometimes. For (the most egregious) example, to get so many Wonder Woman figures before we get anything resembling “the one” we all want feels a little bit exploitative. It’s got to be a healthy mix. I think McFarlane is getting better with this but I still think there’s room to improve.
@@DCMultiCollector I always think it’s a double edged sword because the figures drastically improve year to year mechanically. So it’s almost better that something like classic WW came so late lest she suffer the same fate as the first Gal WW, yknow? Lol That’s how I feel about Thomas Wayne Batman like I find myself wishing he was designed now from his awful legs.
Yeah actual collectors lines solve these issues, but they put out 10 figures a year and charge $150 plus shipping and maybe import tax. Maybe they don’t do returns if there is a problem xD. God bless Todd mcfarlane
I absolutely think Mcfarlane is "tricking" collectors. ZSJL Darkseid- - They announced the shirtless version first and didn't announce the normal armored look until after the shirtless version dropped and it was a Target exclusive. Customers were not well informed. In contrast the variant exclusives for Batman and Cyborg were announced at the same time as the others. Customers were well informed. Should have been alt heads in the one box but people were informed. Movie Blue Beetle - Both versions were announced at the same time. People were informed. Robin - I don't think the green costume had to come out first. But Mcfarlane didn't announce the green figure until after Red Robin shipped. Customers were not well informed. They had no reason to assume they'd get the green suit. The next Robin announced was the Dick Grayson exclusive. Riddler - At no point did Mcfarlane announce before the Arkham Riddler dropped that there would be a comic Riddler. It's easy to say skip it in hindsight but we didn't know if Mcfarlane will make any comic version. Same for other characters. Is Ra's and Penguin a sure thing? Supergirl - A comic version announced long after the Injustice 2 version dropped. Well it's still subject to approval. Superman Lex - They announced two versions. One in the Superman armor and one from the one panel Lex had the darkseid head. Customers were well informed..........until they announced the Target Exclusive Superman Lex with a cape after these products had shipped. That one being how he actually looks in the comic. How is that not a trick? Dark Metal Batman - Had two versions. One with a guitar plastic man and the other with a Scythe. They were not announced together. Endless Winter Wonder Woman, Kyle Rayner, Flashpoint Batman, Movie Black Adam.....and so and so. We see too many releases where the customer is not adequately informed. They have to hope that they don't waste their money on a close enough product as Mcfarlane releases the one they want a few months later. Worse when it the difference between a few accessories.
I am a collector from China and while we can get more exclusives than you guys, there is still plenty of them, mostly some target, that we can't get. I paid more almost triple of the local MSRP for the Kyle Rayner, and in order to get the last 2 years' target BAF wave, I have to ask a friend in the state to buy them and ship them to me, which will also cost me a great deal of hassel and money. Although, I do know that Mcfarlane decides which region get the certain exclusives based on the total sales of the region. For example, outside of US, 3 countries can get this year's SDCC exclusives: China, Canada and Brazil, because they sold the most amount of mcfarlane figures outside of US. This seems pretty unfair because that mean countries and regions with lower population probably never going to get certain exclusives. Retailer exclusives on the other hand seems more to do with certain retailers. Target is really hard to deal with but we get every single walmart exclusives and they are relativey easy to order. I don't collect much Hasbro stuff, nor do I like ML very much, but one thing they are better on this front is that you can get every exclusives here without paying international shipping or scalper.
I've been collecting this line since day 1. I currently own roughly 160 figures so I feel like I have a good sense of the line as a whole. I have to say that overall, I am still enjoying collecting this line and am excited for what's to come. Over the 4 years Todd's had the license, he's given us some amazing figures and a relatively good breadth of characters. While the line is heavy on Batman variations, I personally have no qualms since Batman is my favorite character. There was a period of time, first of last year, that I really fell off the line. I think I was just overwhelmed with the amount of releases and the characters were a little too obscure for what I'm looking for. I have picked up most of the collectors edition line and while I think they are good, they are using this as a way increase prices of figures without doing a traditional price hike in the main line which I think is sneaky. I do have some major issues with the line as a whole that they don't seem to be addressing or at least we'll get one here and there where the issues aren't present. My #1 biggest complaint is the lack of any up hip rotation and detents in the ankle making it difficult to stand. I customize almost every figure I get by cutting off some of the plastic on the "butt cheeks" and melting out the depends with a hot small screw driver. My second biggest complaint is the lack of paint that we're seeing on many figures, I started noticing this alot in the 2nd year of the line and it's still something that I'm seeing in many releases. My third biggest complaint is lack of accessories with many of the figures, I've gotten over the no guns mandate, but there is no reason why figures can't come with alternate hands. My favorite release of 2023 was the Riddler and it simply came down to the boat load of hands that allowed you to express your figure in so many different ways (along with Riddler being my favorite batman villain. My fourth and final biggest complaint, which you touched on, is giving us variant versions of highly sought after figures only to release the version everyone wanted months later. It seems like a sneaky business tactic and is honestly insulting to collectors. To wrap up this essay lol, I love this line, it's one of my favorite to collect. This line is still very young and it seems like Todd is listening to the fans and making improvements/adjustments along the way. I appreciate these kinds of videos, you're my new favorite reviewer for the DC line!
Great video. I agree with a lot of this video. However, I do differ on some points. Like some other mega figures like Anti-Monitor, Carapax doesn't need more accessories. I am glad they included the open hands since the fists were too hidden on the figure. However, you mention that Carapax's weapon isn't included but I have not found a picture showing the weapon. With collector edition, I too am a little dismayed about the extra cost with no real accessories like flight stands (wave 1 and 2 are all flying characters except Abyss). I feel that the Blue Beetle figure should have been one figure as a collector edition with all of the accessories of both figures. On live action vs comic styles, I think of Arron Eckhart when I picture Two-Face. If they would come out with a comic style Two-Face, I don't know if I would pick it up. The Arkham Riddler is better than the Tights version imo and look forward to the Uma Thurman Poison Ivy (at least it looks like we will not get the hair bun version). Lastly, I understand your point of view on re-use but I am fine with the re-use when it is done correctly. I feel that we would not have gotten a lot of the character figures if it wasn't for the planned re-use. Again, great video and look forward to more.
I thought the ring on Alan Scott was wrong too and to be fair it's usually is on the right hand but when I Googled images after hearing someone's comment there's some with it on the left and that one had the same design as what he gave us. It's annoying when the box uses different images but there's only certain ones he can actually use and what he's pulling from can't be put on the box for artists copy rights. I like the sculpt on the Doomsday more then the Death of Superman one but the Superman was an easy repaint unfortunately and should have used the other cape design with the symbol. He cut cost and used the infected torn one instead. I understand how others complain but I get it. Would we even have gotten it or for the same price is hard to say though. I skipped and hoping for a single release of that Doomsday. I've learned to wait with the line and have patience now. If I wanted the other Doomsday it's been made already. The thing with cloth capes is I could buy a custom one but can't go the other way if wanting a plastic sculpted one which I prefer. Not everyone is unanimous unfortunately.
I think mcfartlane will do more than challenge the imports if the company does soft rubber midsection parts . It would lend more to the overall engineering achievement of the body. Instead of engineering more plastic parts that make the figures more cumbersome and grotesque ❤😂
Just wanted to first say that I enjoy your channel and love your displays in the background. Something sadly North America doesn't really have. So a few things on your rant. I agree with everything you've said ! So I work for a production company and just wanted to share some info. Basically at the end of the day it's all about profit and making deadlines. I'm sure Mcfarlane wants to do a lot but he has to go through channels to do so. For instance. WB. Since they own the rights and renewed his contract he still has to work under them. Which falls in things that we want may not come to fruition. I'm sure he and other companies have the same recipe. They give his team a deadline for production and finish and debut. I think that's why sometimes he ends up rushing the job. He is after all the creator and not the QC part of the job. As for colors. I agree with you as well! Sadly, North America has their own color chart that doesn't match with Asia's Color wheel. That's why they do test runs to best match the color they want for a product before agreeing. But with his times table and the amount of figures he has to make im sure he can't do it for every character. Also the cost of that would be astronomical. Also, he doesn't want to give us all the classics right away. He wants to show his creativity and aspirations of his versions of DC Characters to kind of imprint his own designs instead of just copy/pasting other artists work. Let's say if he did give us the entire classic line. Once we have that collection who would want to buy his other stuff? He spreads it out enough where we buy a little of everything and sales remain up for business. Another thing about sizing is that it's work under different teams of artists/sculptors which im sure they don't even have time to communicate with one another to get the portions correct. Think that's why they can just throw the word "Multiverse" as an excuse of why he's taller and that guy is shorter etc. At the end of the day most companies don't give the materials, designs, sculpts on time for production to properly get QC'd. They just expect factory companies to produce magic in the time they give them to make and finally for exclusives. I hate them as well even living in North America I never can find the ones I want forcing us to pay double price for the rarity. Sadly since it's through distribution it helps them in sales and work load. That way they don't have to bare responsibilities in sales and ship since it is sold buy other billion dollar companies. This is just my opinions and experience working in a factory. I hope this helps!
This is so fascinating and it makes sense. I instinctually understand that there are always logistical and practical reasons for these issues and it’s not just down to “laziness” or whatever. I just hope that some of them can be ironed out a bit over time.
@@DCMultiCollector I think what annoys me more is that WB has the say in things and in general i feel they are the main culprits … I mean look are their current movies thus far… Not exactly best choices. Hopefully their toy line and James Gunn can turn things around!
These are very valid points💯 The thing is i belong to the official McFarlane Toys discord and a few employees are on there. They say about the collectors edition that even though the first three offerings or a little lackluster in the accessories department, moving forward they said this line will have more bang for your buck for the $29.99 price point which is good news to hear
All valid points and agree 100% although I do love the Jokerized varients. I would be very happy to pay more to get these addressed. Also I'm in the UK, although not as bad as you Aussies (you poor folk seem to have it the worst!), we do get screwed over in the distribution process a lot
Hate: I hate the McFarlane stopped with the “weight, height, & source” on the cards. Not every flying character comes with a flight stand. Flight stand can’t be tightened Art on card is a mess. Live action should be the characters in the suits & this character should have the same art on the cards Nitpicks: Not enough alt hands & heads. MLs are $30+ now. McFarlane are an inch bigger so maybe it’s possible to reuse some molds. Or they might lose money in the first half then if they sell enough, more than make up for their losses
Overall, I'm still a fan but you're 100% right and echoing sentiments from myself and so many others collectors. When you look at their IG posts, the comments are all basically saying the same stuff. The most frustrating thing is how easy it would be to course correct. When I see an amazing new sculpt with an amazing paint job like the Jaime Reyes figures it makes some of these other figures even more egregious. But even that release was idiotic, 2 separate figures and no flight stand? Like what are we doing man?
Since movie tie-in toys are most likely mandated by WB Discovery as part of the license, I would think that the budget for them is probably higher than for standard releases in the line. That's why we see more original sculpts and detail in movie figures.
One thing I really hate is.... WHY MAKE CLASSIC ICONIC VERSIONS OF CHARACTERS EXCLUSIVE!!!!! Deadman Blue Beatle The Atom Azreal Batman Catman Classic Flash All exclusives 😞
On the subject of color, both green lantern kyle rayners have the worst green ever for some reason, really puts a footnote on them being some of my favorite figures
As a spawn fan, it bothers me greatly that I keep seeing all these Superman, batman, and “jokerized” dc figures and yet there is no news on an actual individual spawn figure. I’d love to see the classic costume as well. There are several characters that don’t have figures as well, such as Wanda, chapel, and Jason Wynn and ole Todd didn’t announce anything to do with spawn figures at the summer showcase. I hope the company improves!
The Flashpoint Flash figure passes me off. I buy all Flash related McFarlane stuff, but buggered if I'm paying $150 on eBay!! Finally got the regular Jay Garrick too. The Metal variant was released first which I wasn't a fan of.
Totally agree with everything you said! Great points overall. I live in Russia, imagine me getting some exclusives :D But i do actually have the Azrael Batman though
The difference with mcfarlane to other companies is it’s privately owned, not a corporation having to pay stock holders. The reuse isn’t that good but it helps to pay for new sculpts.
I am all for sensible reuse, for sure! I just feel like maybe it’s become a tiny bit too prevalent lately. I don’t wanna open figure after figure and they all feel the same because they’re using that Jon Kent or Booster Gold body buck.
@@MTB214 But then they pay for all new tooling for a Batman in knights armor that showed up for a panel or two. But the Mcfarlane Collector Edition Superman can't get a proportionally better torso or new lower legs to match the comic. It's the same body as Infected Superman. The Jon Kent body has articulation issues with the torso but it's real problems are the sculpted cuffs. Great for that Superboy body but.......then it shows up on Nightwing, Impulse, Kid Flash, and Beast boy who all don't have those cuffs. Those probably should have been floating parts or new legs and arms made. Then the BG buck. Not as problematic but a lot of characters wear gloves or don't wear boots. But this body is being used without modification. Paint app logos vs a sculpted one. There are ways for them to design more customizable bodies with more reusable parts. Mcfarlane isn't exactly doing that.
The exclusive figures are bad I work at Walmart in California the exclusives for that store most of them I have gotten except for Vampire Joker I still have yet to find that figure. The Target exclusives I have had ok luck at finding those i missed out on Owlman never found the figure in stores. I did find the Flashpoint Flash last week at Target just one haven't seen any since. And as for a figure I would like to see is Hawkgirl Mcfarlane needs to make one she is one of my most favorite characters.
Well thought out points. 100% agree. I hope Todd sees your video. I would just add, would like to see a little more paint like a simple wash/dry brush where appropriate and also the diaper piece on some figures are ugly e.g. Captain Atom.❤❤❤
I agree with your episode about the dc multiverse. They make too much of what no one really wants. All these multicolor figures is just too much .also not enough accessories . Now these other elseworld wonder, woman figures with the sword and shield, and lasso the mainstream version only comes with a lasso ? That’s not right.
I agree with your stated issues. All valid complaints. Have you brought these issues up in his socials? He supposedly listens. Otherwise, you’re just preaching to the choir because while most would likely agree with your points, the only one that can change anything for the better is McFarlane himself.
They can't and they won't stop. Batman is the driving force of their sales. And collectors can't get enough of Batman variants. Mcfarlane is just doing fine with all the Batman they are churning out. I just wish that they also produce more of other DC characters.
@keithp7794 not entirely. Todd Mcfarlane himself pushes all Batman. He likes the character, and he knows that Batman sells. He already said it on his interviews.
@@coricschronicles no kidding. He's running a business. He puts out Batman because he knows it sells, and it sells because it's the only character DC promotes.
Most companies release the alternative version of the figure first... because they know if they released the version you really want first ...you'd be less likely to buy the other version. Hasbro does it as well....its annoying but its business. My advice....do what i do...just wait for the version you really want...and skip the rest.
I agree with you about exclusives, getting Flash was a nightmare and I shouldn’t have had to pay as much as I did for it which is disappointing. I kind of like the Booster Gold/Blue Beetle body, I think it works well for a greater range of characters, and allows for cost cutting from a business standpoint. The main problem I have with the line is the character selection, I remember that interview Todd did where he said he didn’t like making female figures because they’re disappointing for young boys who only want to play with Batman and Superman toys. I think a lot of the character choices bowl down to Todd’s weird opinions. I’d love a Hawkgirl, Wonder Woman, Giganta, Cheetah, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and more females, but for whatever reason he sees no profitability in them.
I don’t buy all the stuff he does but when he makes a hit it is definitely superior to anything hasscum or Mattel does . Currently I’m hunting in vain for that doomsday 2pk and refuse to pay the scalpers on eBay .Got 3 targets by my home and never saw it so the main beef I have with McFarlane is exclusives but all of the other companies do it too. However,I speculate we will see doomsday again with better paint and tighter joints so I’m not too worried if I don’t get the current offering. But I must say I’m not a nerd and not everyone who collects is .I have very little in common with nerds
@@DCMultiCollectorthey’re good. I feel like some of their later stuff was looking too legends-y but when they were in early multiverse/dcuc era those figures were peak
I think you guys complain too much. here in Brazil, to be able to collect this line we pay an average of 50 dollars per figure, if I paid only 20 on average I would buy much more...
It’s not much better Australia. We don’t pay $20. Price is not really a huge issue for me, though. More about some annoying little issues that could easily be ironed out.
Ehhhh I'm a small artist. If you're a multimillionaire making products for mass market, I feel like it's not unreasonable to expect a bit higher quality and more reasonable product release practices.
McFarlane's figures look and feel extremely 'cheap' to me. They have a real 'hollow plastic' feel to them and always look poorly produced and wonky. THEN there's the ridiculous proportions and things like Hush Batman's shoulder(s) being down around his waist FGS! There's NO excuse for sh#t like that! It just seems like a big money grab, like he's trying to get away with the absolute bare-minimum and focusing on quantity rather than quality. Like what was said, these aren't children's toys but they TOTALLY seem that way! He needs to start making 'Adult Collectibles' for the collector, made by a collector 🤬
@@DCMultiCollector Wouldn't have a clue and I'm not going to waste my time justifying my thoughts on McFarlane's figures to you. I stated what I thought and that's that. If you don't like it then you can go f#ck yourself 👍👌 Figures such as ML have a harder, more solid, quality plastic whereas McFarlane's feel soft, hollow and cheap imo. People make excuses for McFarlane because of the 'price point' - They would obviously eat whatever was dished up to them. Anyway, I would much rather pay more for quality figures of my favorite characters than buy cheap kids toys.
My issue with exclusives is that he makes the figures people really want as exclusives. Let Target have the Jokerized stuff. That is what an exclusive should be. A figure that looks interesting, but is not needed to complete the line. Classic versions of characters should never be an exclsuive.
Nailed it!
You are 100% correct!!
Particularly if it's Walmart exclusive, my Walmarts are phasing out the toy aisle and have been since before COVID.
honestly i think Todd listens pretty well, it takes a second for him to get it to us but he has listened fairly well. now i absolutely agree with the harley and poison ivy point. we need more comic versions or at least close ones. like the suicide squad version was her in a dress. we couldn’t get the cool suit she had in the first 15 minutes of the movie?? or at least a variant? idk. sometimes his picks just don’t make sense but who knows if thats him or dc
Thank you so much! 🙏
It’s strange how many people claim to despise mcfarlane so much but you can’t find the toys in the wild . Hypocrites
@@thenotoriousunc yet those same people who are defending Todd MacFarlane by saying that the reason he makes so many Batman figures is because he’s a top seller yet you can see a bunch of Batman figures warming the pegs in Walmart and target because the Batman figures that are selling off the shelves are the ones are comic accurate like the bronze age Batman or the ones that you call “Knightfall” or Michael Keaton Batman
Todd McFarlanes idiotic interview and his sickening fetish, for Batman has made him look quite pathetic
So yeah take that as you will
How many Spider-Man figs do you own ?
I love the line but it feels like the love and attention to detail isn’t *always* there.
A Nerd consultant would bankrupt the company. There is a word for getting exactly what you want-custom. Support artists!
Thank you so much
Very good video, level-headed, fair and when it seemed like it was mostly a very personal view/opinion you acknowledged that. I usually see these rant videos on TH-cam and quickly let the algorithm know not to recommend that channel again, but this was was quite good.
Thank you!
You are 100% spot on
The thing that’s pissing me off is now Classic Supergirl is a target exclusive, and it is now a pre-order sold out. Like why? I’m a huge Wonder Woman fan since the 70s and now I’m afraid that the classic Wonder Woman won’t be found anywhere and the action figure it’s gonna probably cost $100.
Like why??
I agree...!! Very good points...!!
Had those been fixed to match the figure I don’t think anyone would’ve been upset, it was just so obvious that the classic variant was eventually coming
However, I do appreciate that they made the Belt, Cape and Mask different (aside from the color palette). They made those changes, so I’d like them to just see it through
3 minutes in: “welp done with the good points” lol
I wanna get the scale thing out first because I’ll die on this particular hill lol A 6’2” man in 1:10th scale is 7.4” tall. 🤷🏻♂️
I agree with most of what you’re saying, just kinda lost me when you descended into the classics must come first nonsense.
You mention the flight stands if you look back we used to get flight stands with flying characters but then they stopped
I don't collect much Hasbro stuff, nor do I like ML very much, but one thing they are better on this front is that you can get every exclusives here without paying international shipping or scalper.
well said. great look into the pros and cons of the line.
It’s hard to argue with these points 🙏
Oh amazing! Thanks for this insight. I do hope they can adjust accordingly!
All valid points and agree 100% although I do love the Jokerized varients. I would be very happy to pay more to get these addressed. Also I'm in the UK, although not as bad as you Aussies (you poor folk seem to have it the worst!), we do get screwed over in the distribution process a lot
I wish they would re-issue older figures that are no longer available, like Mega Fig Bane or some of the early Dark Knights
Agreed.
Hate:
I hate the McFarlane stopped with the “weight, height, & source” on the cards.
Not every flying character comes with a flight stand.
Flight stand can’t be tightened
Art on card is a mess. Live action should be the characters in the suits & this character should have the same art on the cards
Nitpicks:
Not enough alt hands & heads. MLs are $30+ now. McFarlane are an inch bigger so maybe it’s possible to reuse some molds.
Or they might lose money in the first half then if they sell enough, more than make up for their losses
But you do have some valid points.... My main gripe is scale, shouldn't all Batmans be the same height ECT....
I just bought a clearance Superboy Prime on Amazon just for the flight stand for my Alan Scott 😂
LETS GO DUDE 1K!
!!!!!!!!!
I agree with everything you said bro, preach!
Deadman
Blue Beatle
The Atom
Azreal Batman
Catman
Classic Flash
All exclusives 😞
100% - this practice is absolutely lousy.
On the subject of color, both green lantern kyle rayners have the worst green ever for some reason, really puts a footnote on them being some of my favorite figures
I like them but I agree it’s not quite the right shade
As a spawn fan, it bothers me greatly that I keep seeing all these Superman, batman, and “jokerized” dc figures and yet there is no news on an actual individual spawn figure. I’d love to see the classic costume as well. There are several characters that don’t have figures as well, such as Wanda, chapel, and Jason Wynn and ole Todd didn’t announce anything to do with spawn figures at the summer showcase. I hope the company improves!
That is a different line which I don’t know much about. I’m sorry to hear that fans of his spawn line aren’t too pleased!
I like to say....... there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG with the Arkham City Catwoman. Nothing. Every MAN should know this
Those legs are absolutely nonsense even tho I like the figure overall 😂
@@DCMultiCollector though you could have mentioned Batgirl from the first build a figure wave (batmobile). Now her legs went on for days!
@@that-one-dude23 lol yes and she had hideous ball peg ankles
One thing I would really like to see is pin less joints.
The Flashpoint Flash figure passes me off. I buy all Flash related McFarlane stuff, but buggered if I'm paying $150 on eBay!!
Finally got the regular Jay Garrick too. The Metal variant was released first which I wasn't a fan of.
They do see through glasses on impulse but nothing for beetle or gold even the re release beetle
It’s very weird
Totally agree with everything you said! Great points overall. I live in Russia, imagine me getting some exclusives :D
But i do actually have the Azrael Batman though
The difference with mcfarlane to other companies is it’s privately owned, not a corporation having to pay stock holders.
The reuse isn’t that good but it helps to pay for new sculpts.
I am all for sensible reuse, for sure! I just feel like maybe it’s become a tiny bit too prevalent lately. I don’t wanna open figure after figure and they all feel the same because they’re using that Jon Kent or Booster Gold body buck.
@@DCMultiCollector I didn’t get either of those figures.
It is a line at retail so not just for collectors.
All points here are valid. Well said!!!
Absolutely true! More paint, please!
Totally agree!
Agree across the board
On that action 1 superman with the dumb card holder look at his boots why not atleast match the colors as on the card/comic smh 9:35
100% agree my complaint with Mcfarlane is stop making to many Batman
They can't and they won't stop. Batman is the driving force of their sales. And collectors can't get enough of Batman variants. Mcfarlane is just doing fine with all the Batman they are churning out. I just wish that they also produce more of other DC characters.
You have to blame DC for all the batman stuff, not mcfarlane. Batman is the only character DC push.
@@keithp7794 absolutely right
@keithp7794 not entirely. Todd Mcfarlane himself pushes all Batman. He likes the character, and he knows that Batman sells. He already said it on his interviews.
@@coricschronicles no kidding. He's running a business. He puts out Batman because he knows it sells, and it sells because it's the only character DC promotes.
100% facts. But Mcfarlane’s Flying Stands sucks. Those molds are expensive like $100k per mold.
Most companies release the alternative version of the figure first... because they know if they released the version you really want first ...you'd be less likely to buy the other version. Hasbro does it as well....its annoying but its business. My advice....do what i do...just wait for the version you really want...and skip the rest.
He needs to make a better body for Superman as well
Absolutely.
He is doing the same thing but the two pack death of Superman doomsday is a reuse of devastator Superman has no S on the back of his
I agree with you about exclusives, getting Flash was a nightmare and I shouldn’t have had to pay as much as I did for it which is disappointing.
At least we've got a Poison Ivy now, she's the Uma Thurman version.
Darkest knight BAF is by far THE BEST ! figure DC multiverse has released imo.
Hahah oh no don’t make me track it down!
@@DCMultiCollector well if you do track it down, then prepare for flash figures 😅
@@ivanosatriani5533 haha I have my flash family sorted, I don’t need the crazy speed metal versions!
I'm telling Todd!
I come from a place of love

@@nickryan4126 YESSIR PAPA TODD
you hit all the points that i also have. i hope todd actually hears us out
Artificial scarcity
Legs are too long short bodies and half the time the arms are way too long they look stupid
I don’t agree that this is true for every figure.
I am definitely a huge nerd
I wish Mattel had the dc license back
I’m curious why? I don’t own any DCM from Mattel but from everything I’ve seen they look pretty poor?
@@DCMultiCollectorthey’re good. I feel like some of their later stuff was looking too legends-y but when they were in early multiverse/dcuc era those figures were peak
@@DCMultiCollectorif you had to pick ten dc characters who haven’t gotten a figure who would it be.
@@JacobMignano167. oh man maybe that’s my next video!
@@DCMultiCollector I agree that they miss the point in some figures that would be very easy to get right
So wouldn't you want a better product for what you are already spending more money on?
Hearing these complaints over and over…. You guys don’t support artists.
Extremely strange take.
I don’t agree that they feel cheap. I think they are petty good for the price point.
@@DCMultiCollector Good for you but I don't care sorry - to me they look and feel cheap. Like, cheap, soft, 'hollow' plastic.
@@searcher7478 okie dokie. Be curious to know which figures at this price point you think don’t feel cheap.
