    never thought I would sit through 30 mins of technical video - loved it. Ok - i fast forwarded a little once I got the hang of what you were doing. But as I am mechanically seriously disadvantaged and know nothing about engines this was a real education. Thanks :-)

    Love video and your terminology, brill. The noise sounds like exhaust resonating against floor or chassis member. Always thought tappets were adjusted when engine is cold...perhaps triumphs, jags, daimler are different from the rover.

    • @Alexsassets
      @Alexsassets  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      1yr later And I have still not found out what the noise is.... lol

  • @francis2811
    @francis2811 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    They should always be adjusted hot. With side valve engines you can start the engine and insert an old feeler gauge above the spring, and if the ticking stops, you know that rocker the gap is too large.

    Nice, but I also understood that the clearance should be checked with a cold engine, as in theory the clearance should be zero with a hot engine. The metal shrinks when the engine is cold, hence the clearance.
    But in this case I’m obviously wrong ..🤔

    Another great video. I would remove the fanbelt and then run the engine to see if your noise disappears. It sounds like a loose pulley somewhere.

    Some leave the gauge under the tappet while they adjust. So that's quicker!

    Recall the "magic" number is 7: you deal with #6 and #1; then #5 and #2; then #4 and #3. And the reverse!

      My friend Liz wants one too now because of me haha . I picked this one up at the NEC restoration show last year or year before. Was only about £20. Don't know what size it is, but it fits me over a jumper and I'm size 14/16 . Keep looking. X

      Never thought of using ATF I was told 3in1 oil but I had none so used 20/50 in Agatha 😂

    • @Alexsassets
      @Alexsassets  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AgathaAndAnything 20/50 is a bit thick really. Apparently 3 in 1 has an abrasive in it ? And can over a long time cause damage to the carb? Only one person told me this, so don't take my word for it.
      ATF seems to be a nice one to use x
