  • Video of Michael Evanko fly fishing the Brodhead Creek in Monroe County, Pennsylvania. The majority of this video was shot on public water that is accessible from Creekview Park near East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. This video was shot on December 9, 2017 during the first notable snow fall of the season. The stream was last stocked by the state on October 17, 2017. The trout caught on this video were caught on Evanko's Green Dot Squirmy and Hare's Ear (with J:Son Nymph Legs) patterns.

    Great video Mike. I really like how you take the time in every video to discuss your setup. I also think it's great that you always share the name of the streams. So many fly fisherman get worried about "spot burning," but I've never thought there was much harm in giving the names of bigger streams like this. Went up to fish the Oak Orchard for the first time (by the archers club) after seeing your video from October.

    • @WoolyBugged
      @WoolyBugged  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      MarkRambo1 how'd you make out on the Oak? Thanks for the nice words and for watching! I've entered you into the beanie giveaway for this week.

      We didn't do very good, timed it about a week or 2 too late. There were some zombie kings left, but the browns had already started their spawn so they weren't really feeding either. The guys who were catching the salmon and browns were flossing them and setting the hook. Only saw a couple guys land steelhead.

    AWESOME DAY!
    Thank you for taking us along.
    Appreciate the experience.
    I live in NYC and have been driving around 3 hours to the Catskills for most of my Fly Fishing. Last few years mainly in and around Roscoe NY.
    Places like the Esopus are just too far for a 1 day trip.
    But I'm super psyched that there are such great public streams even closer to home. East Stroudsberg is like 1.5 hours away from Brooklyn NY.
    I'm definitely planning a trip to Brodhead!
    Thanks again

    A bunch of us used to fish the Broadhead when we attended East Stroudsburg University. We fished a little downstream but a sewer treatment plant was installed. Upstream in town it's still a very nice stream. After years of graduating it's fun to go back to fish.

    Glad to see you finally got up there, the brodhead offers lots opportunity throughout its accesses. The gorge can be very rewarding, with striper and shad opportunities in the spring and summer

    • @WoolyBugged
      @WoolyBugged  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wanna fish that gorge some time. I was surprised by the number of homeless camps I ran into near East Stroudsburg on the Brodhead. Is that your experience? Thanks for commenting, you are entered into the beanie drawing!

      Wooly Bugged yeah, they've always kept to themselves. I've pulled nice browns out of the gorge as well as the FFO section, that's where I see most of the wild fish

    Best part of the video was a weekend afternoon and you're the only angler on the water. That is what it's all about. Love fly fishing on a snowy day....not the drive back home though! Those 'Bows definitely spent some time in that water. Almost look like wild or at least hybridized fish. Entertaining video, thanks.

    Great video Mike. I have watching a lot of Pennsylvania fly fishing on You Tube lately. You guys have some great trout fishing up in Pennsylvania. We don’t have any snow down here in North Carolina, but it definitely can get cold with snow up in our mountains. The rainbows you caught were absolutely beautiful.

    Michael, I like that beanie too! (lol) I went fly fishing once about 6 years ago my first time ever on the gunpowder up from the Monkton station along the rail trail.and caught my first trout it was maybe an inch bigger than a sardine on a dry fly. I caught a few that size. Life got in the way so my fishing adventures ended, but I'm retired now and getting my gear ready. I watched about 5 of your videos so far and enjoyed them all. Thank you for taking the time on Christmas eve 2017 to show how to prep the line. I will watch it again soon to learn the barrel knot. I live in Baltimore an never thought about Deer Creek. I was remembering as a kid going to Broad Creek Scout camp and catching pan sized trout one after another on a hand line and a black widow fly under the dam that was 58 years ago i was 9 or ten. It was the first time I had the opportunity to fish. I don't know if you have done a video on whats in your pack and how you secure your net on your back as I didn't see a magnet rig on your net. What waders do you use Michael? I have a million questions to ask but its getting late. I liked your videos more then any of those pro fisherman video's I've watched over the years. I hope you catch a trout so big you don't have to lie about it and I hope I'm around to watch you do it. Good luck my new friend! John

    Love the video ! Little tip about ice in the eyes , when you get to your fishing spot rub a little bit of extra virgin olive oil on your rod guides and eyes , its natural for the environment and repels water hope this tip helps.

    Those rainbows look a lot nicer than Pa. Fish and Boat Commission standard issue hatchery rainbows. I wonder if a local sportsmen's club is purchasing a better quality of trout for the Brodhead, similar to what Slate Run Tackle did in Pine Creek before the stretch below Slate Run became a Keystone Select water.

    Great video Mike. Been there often. Big Jim fished there, it was like you said, maybe the first go to stream in this country. As for the big ones they do come up from the big D. I have done well in there with what else? an Olive Wooley Bugger. Hope I run into you sometime. Merry Christmas.

    • @zenbooter
      @zenbooter 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey Mike, Yes, as much weight as it takes to get to bottom. gold cone, 6xlong streamer , fine[1/64 ] lead wire, from bend to eye, blood plume, SLF, spun in a loop, finegold tinsel, sometimes a long fiber wet fly hackle behind the cone. the color leans to gold but it is olive.

    • @zenbooter

    New subscriber here and I'm really enjoying your videos. I had a question about the Squirmy Worm. I just tied a few for the first time and notice you use a bead with yours. Do you know if I could still use it as a tail fly without the bead or where to put it on a two fly rig if it's just plain. I will get around to tying the beaded version. Keep up the great work.
