"A POCONO PERDIGON DAY!", Nymphing the Brodhead Creek

  • Ok guys, never fished the Brodhead up at this level. The flow was around 140cfs, the water was really moving and, to me, it kind of spread the fish out. My usual flies weren't cutting it, so since the flow was up and the water was fast, I chose to go with perdigon style flies, good choice! Wading was even more trickier than usual, so I had to be patient with every step. Slowly I'm learning when to use the perdigons to my advantage.

    Very nice outing for your annual broadhead video. I have to get up there….drive by it many times on morning commute..couldn’t fish at my cabin west beach pine too low and warm and my mtn streams were barely a trickle …waiting for late September now. Again, very nice video and some interesting fish…

      Hi Phil! Sorry for the late response. Oh yes, you gotta try the Brodhead, make it a whole day trip though, plenty of areas to explore but a little tough wading, need studs and a staff. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Hi Scott. I love all your videos. Before Covid hit my wife and I would go to the Poconos every October. I fished the broad head in North Stroudsburg. I did ok. But would love to know where you were fishing. Mike from buffalo NY.

    Nice video as always Scott. Love your annual Broadhead video. I was going to go to that exact spot Saturday morning but got lazy and didn’t go. Looks like I should have. Decided I’m gonna give it a shot tomorrow morning as it’s only 30 min from my house. It’s truly crazy how much the stream changes. Last years flood changed it a lot. I also noticed the lackawaxen river changed a lot too from the flooding. Crazy the power water has.

    Good Stuff Scott as usual, I few of my buddies have been fishing the BH a lot this year and as a New jersey guy, I'm spoiled. Not fishing NJ much these days as this is better then anything we have here. The fish are strong and healthy. Water temps on the BH might drive us to start hitting the Catskills and CT more.

From my limited experience with the Brodhead, seems as long as we have decent rain and good flows, the Brodhead holds it’s temps really well. Scott, what a beautiful day you had! Curious what the flow was running that day, if you knew? I was up there fishing back in the middle of May when everything west was blown out, and while I did ok and it was fishable, it seemed a little faster then your current trip. Hi scott, mike here from whitehall, pa. New to your channel, was told by a friend you do alot of explaining of tactical setups for high stick nymphing. When fishing 2 or 3 flys with sighter material, which way do you find is best to tie off your flies? Currently i use a dropshot off the bottom fly with splitshot to adjust for water flow an depth. It seems you not use that setup at all. Also do you tie the upper fly on a tag or right to the line? An how do you come off that fly to the next? Thank you for considering a reply

    • @pawoodsnwater7551
      @pawoodsnwater7551  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi buddy! Well, I do a form of tight lining but with a traditional fly line and leader setup. My tandem rig is an in-line rig, most times I tie off the eyes but sometimes I’ll tie off the bend of the hooks, I have the flies 16-18” apart and I build it top fly the heaviest and lightest fly on the bottom and my splitshot I place above my top fly. Lately I’ve been using 5x Flouro for my tandem rig but usually I use 4x Flouro. Please watch my video from a couple weeks ago called My Leader Setup, I show it there in detail using the same leader for dry fly fishing and nymphing. Thanks for watching and commenting.
