Out of all the year end videos different plant TH-camrs made this was my absolute favorite 🤗 Hoya is my favorite genus too! So I’m definitely looking forward to all the Hoya content 🎉 Over the last three months or so I kind of “redid” my houseplant collection. I sold a lot, gave away a good bit and considered on my Hoya more. I’d say my collection is 90% Hoya now and honestly I’m the happiest I’ve ever been with my collection.

I absolutely love this video! It’s so nice to see so many of the Hoyas are more common and easier to find. I love Hoyas but I’m not able to purchase the rarer more expensive varieties. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful plants! One question I have, is do you fertilize your Hoyas year round? Thank you in advance for your response.
Thank you sooo much!!!! The common easier to find Hoyas are ALL amazing. You can’t go wrong with them 💚💚💚. I do fertilize year round. During the growing season I fertilize every two weeks. The rest of the year it’s once a month 😊.
I was so sure your Hoya Caudata Sumatra would be one of your favorites!! LOL😂😂. My Hoya Retusa was one of the first hoyas I got last spring when I moved to Colorado!! I have 21 now, I think, but my Wish List for 2024 just got much longer!! Haha! My number One Hoya for 2023 is my Hoya Pubicalyx!! Hi, Cherie!!!! Nope!!! Because the darn plant hardly grew for me this year LOL. It's a gorgeous one, but it was stubborn this year LOL. Hoya Pubicalyx is a great one. I recently moved mine away from the window so I think it's going to be awhile before it gets happy again. We'll see if it adjusts to the new location. I hope I gets some flowers this summer again. I water mine once a week, so once every 7 days. But it's also in a very chunky mix and terracotta. Plus it's a fairly large plant so it does go through the water this way. Another thing I think it doesn't like, is any direct sun. In the previous locations I've had this plant, it did get some sun exposure. Since I've moved it to my office, it only gets artificial light (grow light) and it has really done so much better this way. Thanks for sharing your experience with this plant!!!! :)
Wow I’m crazy about your Callistophylla; it looks so healthy. Mine is still tiny.. Also your Macrophylla. Mine is like yours, getting pretty big and in a growth spurt presently.. It was stuck at first, for a long time. I think it must’ve been treated for flat mites before it came to live with me.
Love this video so much! My 2 favorite hoya are super common! I think I love them because they are pink though 😅 H wayetii variegata and H Krimson Princess! So pretty 😍 i really want a nice pot of retusa though! Happy New year Gena 🎉🥰 Love your videos so much!

Hi! Thank you!!! So I believe I got that in summer of 2020 so it will be 4 years this year. The first time it flowered was last summer I think so it did take a few years to settle in first. I’m not sure how old they have to be before they form peduncles and then hopefully bloom. I think it’s individual for each plant. I do sell my plants at thepinktrellis.com. Thank you so much!!!! So the oldest is about 3 years old and that would be the Hoya Carnosa Compacta...any that look very large. The others anywhere between 1 and 2 years old. I'd have to go through the video again to see and give you the exact ages on them but this is a general idea for you. So basically they are 1-3 years old depending on the plant. I can't remember if I have younger ones in this video or not :). The bushy and long ones are the older ones and about 2-3 years old. It doesn't take long!!!!! Hoya are amazing :). Hope that helps!!!! What a beautiful collection! I love hoyas and most of them I keep in semi-hydroponic. But what I also noticed that you have a plant from my wish list- euphorbia lactea White Gost! 😍 Greetings from Poland!
I was thinking just the same that you were when you said most of your favorites were not the more expensive rare hoyas. It was really nice to see your large plants. A lot of u tubers that share their collection have not been collecting long and their plants look newly purchased. Not so impressive in my eyes. I was surprised that you didn't have a bella on your list. My green one has grown so fast, and is a large hanging plant now. Also, the same for my polyneura. My sheperdii which used to be common is also big and flowering. I have a breviolata that has grown incredibly in a wall pocket that I think might bloom. Also, thanks for the chinchungensis advice. Mine has been dropping yellow leaves. I will try terracotta. Its leaves are so succulent that I am thinking it does not need high water. It was in pon and I move it into medium coco coir, but it is still in a glazed pot. I might need to change that. I have a serpens that is thriving even in terracota?? Anyway, maybe I should visit your shop again soon. Here for you, from Idaho.
Hi Kristie!!!! My Hoya grow so well for me…..I have so many large plants 😊. I think my house just has the perfect lighting for them. They thrive here. I have quite a few new Hoya in my grow tent and they are really starting to take off. But those are specifically for propagating for the shop so they’ll never reach the size of my upstairs plants, most likely. I do enjoy growing small Hoya plants into big show plants 😊 I do have a Hoya Bella that was gifted to me. And then I have a couple of small variegated Bella plants in my cabinet. My chinghungensis I have to water twice a week since it’s in chunky soil in terracotta. That seems to be a good combination for my home conditions. Mine will still occasionally get yellow leaves and drop them. I find it to be a bit finicky. Thank you 💚💚💚
There's a reason some hoya are common. They're usually beautiful and easy to care for. Most of my favorites are really common. About retusa. I think they need to be seen in person to appreciate. I didn't know I needed one until I saw some in a local shop. They're funky nd adorable.

@ThePinkTrellis I'm watching your DIY Hoya Soil Mix video now. Question for you: I potted both Hoyas in nursery pots and ceramic cover pots. Are there certain Hoyas that do best in terracotta pots? I'm not a fan of terracotta pots but prefer the nursery/cover pots.
@@simplydee4522 I think the best thing is to use what you like. And if you start to have problems, try something else. I wouldn’t suggest changing things unless you are having issues. I have lots of Hoyas in plastic nursery pots sitting in a cover pot and they are doing great. I have others that have been in terracotta for their entire existence, in my care, and they are doing great. Do you what you like first and then go from there 😊.
Your hoya chinghungensis is beautiful. Mine is not growing its living in a pon. Now that you mention to put in terracotta pot I will try to do that. I love all your hoyas. Thank you for sharing ❤
Thank you!!! How long have you had it? I’ve never tried one in Pon. I started this plant as a cutting in moss and then transferred it to soil. If the only thing wrong is slow growth, I would suggest taking a cutting and rooting that. Then transfer it to a different medium like soil and see how that grows. It’s also a good idea to have a backup like that in case your mother plant doesn’t react well to the change to soil and terracotta. My plants issue wasn’t slow growth, but rather not getting enough water and drying out too quickly giving me wrinkled leaves. I solved that by watering twice a week. Hope that is more clarification. Happy New Year!!!!! I hope the new year is filled with many positive things and happy days 🥰. The only thing that I can think of as to why mine is growing so much is that I keep it in its original 2-3” nursery pot. So instead of working on root growth it is concentrating everything on the leaves. Otherwise I can just suggest a nice chunky soil mix and bright lighting. Mine isn’t kept in high humidity so I know that isn’t a necessity for it to grow. I hope this might help. Thank you again so much!!!!! Lots of love to you xxoo 💚💚💚

I feel like root rot isn't as devastating as we see and hear it talked about. DON'T GET ME WRONG .... if you have a severe case of mushy roots and it stinks .... then yes .... chop the plant up and try to save it, but I have had lots of plants that here and there I'll notice root issues. Like the classic stringy root thing with dry rot etc. I use to flip out and proceed to check all my plants roots. However more then a few times I decided .... hey I don't want to chop up my plant because it still looks healthy above the surface. So I left it, and just kept an eye on it .... and that method seems to have worked. I don't think I've ever lost a plant to minor root rot. Aloha plant channel was the first youtuber I've seen discuss that roots do die off and people mistake it for root rot but when a plant is healthy and the rest of the plants root system is well established it will survive. All the other channels talk about root rot like its a total killer if you don't repot and sanitize your whole plant immediately. Kind of reminds me if you Web MD random symptoms and come back with cancer for everything lol.
Haha yep! I feel exactly the same. I guess it helps that I'm not as afraid with Hoya because they are soooo easy to start over with. Yes it sucks to start over if it's a BIG plant, but at least you typically aren't going to lose the entire plant. All you need is one node :). Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)

Hi Gina. You did well with your hoya babies! Love the compacta green. I had to call my husband in the room to see the size! We purchased one three months ago, 4 arms about 7 inches. Can't wait to see it grow more. It did get mealies twice! 😏 My h. Chelsea is two years old but a slow grower. I think it's also an underrated hoya, beautiful thick dark green dimpled leaves. It's in my top 5 fave. I had my last order for the year for 5 hoyas but won't be here till next week. Do you still have a hoya wish list? I get a hefty 30 -40% off with my senior discount, which helps a lot. However this trip I found a vintage pottery cache pot. It has a USA stamp with I think a 490? And I only paid $1.59, but I think it is worth more than that. I am so informed now when I go to thrift shops, because of you and Derick. If you ever visit Vegas, I am a member of the LVAG and Boulder City Artist Guild, and exhibit at the BC Art Gallery at the Dam Hotel on Arizona Street. I also exhibit at the BC Hospital and if you ever stray over here I’d love to show you some of the wonderful galleries and plant shops in Boulder City and Vegas.

I have also had issues with the H. Curtisii. The Viola, Retusa and Chelsie are all so pretty. My Retusa is crazy growing like yours is.My Retusa bloomed late fall pretty single flowers. I can't wait for my Shepherdii to bloom.
I keep looking for those retusa blooms but maybe I missed out this year. I know I didn't see them so for some reason it's not doing it. Oh well LOL. The Shepherdii is non-stop for me in the summer. So messy!!!! LOL But the flowers are very cute.

But those are specifically for propagating for the shop so they’ll never reach the size of my upstairs plants, most likely. I do enjoy growing small Hoya plants into big show plants 😊
I do have a Hoya Bella that was gifted to me. And then I have a couple of small variegated Bella plants in my cabinet.
My chinghungensis I have to water twice a week since it’s in chunky soil in terracotta. That seems to be a good combination for my home conditions. Mine will still occasionally get yellow leaves and drop them. I find it to be a bit finicky.

There's a reason some hoya are common. They're usually beautiful and easy to care for. Most of my favorites are really common.
About retusa. I think they need to be seen in person to appreciate. I didn't know I needed one until I saw some in a local shop. They're funky nd adorable.

@ThePinkTrellis I'm watching your DIY Hoya Soil Mix video now. Question for you: I potted both Hoyas in nursery pots and ceramic cover pots. Are there certain Hoyas that do best in terracotta pots? I'm not a fan of terracotta pots but prefer the nursery/cover pots.
@@simplydee4522 I think the best thing is to use what you like. And if you start to have problems, try something else. I wouldn’t suggest changing things unless you are having issues. I have lots of Hoyas in plastic nursery pots sitting in a cover pot and they are doing great. I have others that have been in terracotta for their entire existence, in my care, and they are doing great. Do you what you like first and then go from there 😊.
How often do you water your compactas?
It usually ends up being every other week. I only water them when my moisture meter reads dry in the pots.

Your hoya chinghungensis is beautiful. Mine is not growing its living in a pon. Now that you mention to put in terracotta pot I will try to do that. I love all your hoyas. Thank you for sharing ❤
Thank you!!! How long have you had it? I’ve never tried one in Pon. I started this plant as a cutting in moss and then transferred it to soil. If the only thing wrong is slow growth, I would suggest taking a cutting and rooting that. Then transfer it to a different medium like soil and see how that grows. It’s also a good idea to have a backup like that in case your mother plant doesn’t react well to the change to soil and terracotta. My plants issue wasn’t slow growth, but rather not getting enough water and drying out too quickly giving me wrinkled leaves. I solved that by watering twice a week. Hope that is more clarification. Happy New Year!!!!! I hope the new year is filled with many positive things and happy days 🥰. The only thing that I can think of as to why mine is growing so much is that I keep it in its original 2-3” nursery pot. So instead of working on root growth it is concentrating everything on the leaves. Otherwise I can just suggest a nice chunky soil mix and bright lighting. Mine isn’t kept in high humidity so I know that isn’t a necessity for it to grow. I hope this might help. Thank you again so much!!!!! Lots of love to you xxoo 💚💚💚

I feel like root rot isn't as devastating as we see and hear it talked about. DON'T GET ME WRONG .... if you have a severe case of mushy roots and it stinks .... then yes .... chop the plant up and try to save it, but I have had lots of plants that here and there I'll notice root issues. Like the classic stringy root thing with dry rot etc. I use to flip out and proceed to check all my plants roots. However more then a few times I decided .... hey I don't want to chop up my plant because it still looks healthy above the surface. So I left it, and just kept an eye on it .... and that method seems to have worked. I don't think I've ever lost a plant to minor root rot. Aloha plant channel was the first youtuber I've seen discuss that roots do die off and people mistake it for root rot but when a plant is healthy and the rest of the plants root system is well established it will survive. All the other channels talk about root rot like its a total killer if you don't repot and sanitize your whole plant immediately. Kind of reminds me if you Web MD random symptoms and come back with cancer for everything lol.
Haha yep! I feel exactly the same. I guess it helps that I'm not as afraid with Hoya because they are soooo easy to start over with. Yes it sucks to start over if it's a BIG plant, but at least you typically aren't going to lose the entire plant. All you need is one node :). Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)

Hi Gina. You did well with your hoya babies! Love the compacta green. I had to call my husband in the room to see the size! We purchased one three months ago, 4 arms about 7 inches. Can't wait to see it grow more. It did get mealies twice! 😏 My h. Chelsea is two years old but a slow grower. I think it's also an underrated hoya, beautiful thick dark green dimpled leaves. It's in my top 5 fave. I had my last order for the year for 5 hoyas but won't be here till next week. Do you still have a hoya wish list? I get a hefty 30 -40% off with my senior discount, which helps a lot. However this trip I found a vintage pottery cache pot. It has a USA stamp with I think a 490? And I only paid $1.59, but I think it is worth more than that. I am so informed now when I go to thrift shops, because of you and Derick. If you ever visit Vegas, I am a member of the LVAG and Boulder City Artist Guild, and exhibit at the BC Art Gallery at the Dam Hotel on Arizona Street. I also exhibit at the BC Hospital and if you ever stray over here I’d love to show you some of the wonderful galleries and plant shops in Boulder City and Vegas.

I have also had issues with the H. Curtisii. The Viola, Retusa and Chelsie are all so pretty. My Retusa is crazy growing like yours is.My Retusa bloomed late fall pretty single flowers. I can't wait for my Shepherdii to bloom.
I keep looking for those retusa blooms but maybe I missed out this year. I know I didn't see them so for some reason it's not doing it. Oh well LOL. The Shepherdii is non-stop for me in the summer. So messy!!!! LOL But the flowers are very cute.
