The Pink Trellis
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 10 เม.ย. 2021
Hi! I'm Gena. This plant channel was brought to life to share my experiences as a plant parent, with other plant lovers, here in the USA and around the world. Let's be plant friends :). We can share our joys and, let's face it, sometimes failures, and learn from one another.
I live in the very dry and very beautiful state of Colorado, in the USA. Because of the dry weather, and my desire to keep things as simple as possible, I "try" to limit my houseplant collection to those plants that I can easily care for in my climate. Some of my favorites are: Hoya, Dischidia, Anthurium, Rhipsalis, Succulents, Cacti, Carnivorous Plants, Scindapsus, Begonia, and Syngonium. That's a lot right? I have a plant addiction LOL.
I am also currently having a love affair with terrariums and building terrariums in glass jars.
My goal is to bring you planty content (at least once a week), that "leafs" you with a smile on your face :). Thanks for being here!

I love those hoyas! I put a few more on my wishlist. :) the aceh air and publicax (sp) splash. The caudex are cool! It will be good to learn about those. Gena all of those crazy vines, you are amazing with that grow tent. Everything is gorgeous. I need to start over on the serpens silver. Mine isn't doing well at all. I will be watching your shop for my wishlist plants. I need more hoya! :)
I've been watching this on and off today 😍I am obsessed with all the pottery in the beginning, too.
Macrophylla Red. I would love to purchase a prop of it!
It will definitely make it into the shop at some point 😊
Waw your home is so beautifull, you have many Hoya's and cat so perfect ❤❤❤
Thank you so much 💚💚💚
Love seeing all your finds, even non planty stuff. Thrifting is so fun!
It sure is….thank you!!!!
How much humidity in ur grow tent...excellent growth on hoya, esoecially ...cause u and i live in Colorado...would it ok with u to visit ur grow tent, sonetime in spring...beautiful hoyas
The humidity level fluctuates throughout the day. When the exhaust fans turn on it drops, but the range is 60%-90% throughout the day and night. Higher at night of course. I wish I had a store-front to do something like this, but these grow tents are in my house so I'm just not comfortable with tours. Thanks for asking though :).

A m a z i n g!! Wow!! Had to watch in 3 segments but loved every moment!!😂❤
It was LONG. Thanks for watching Cherie :).
Your room is so cute! I wish I had this kind of space for myself!
Thank you :).
Hi Gena. I'm noticing a theme with deformed new growth. It could be a sucking insect. Do you have a jewelers loupe? Another possibility is some very specific nutrient deficiency. Maybe a boost of micronutrients might help. I have a loupe with a white light and a black light. White pests like mealies will glow under the black light.
Hi, Sue! I have looked under magnification but haven't seen a thing. The wacky weird growth started almost immediately after receiving the plant so that makes me think it was part of the adjustment to the new conditions. I'm just going to keep a close eye on it. The new leaves seem to be normalizing now so that's good news :).
@@ThePinkTrellis Plants can do some weird things while they acclimatize.
Hi Gena, what an amazing collection of Hoyas! So many gorgeous plants to admire. Love your channel and all your videos. Wishing you much success with your shop in 2025!💚. I haven’t been fast enough to purchase from your shop yet but that’s a compliment to you that your inventory moves so quickly. 😊Very happy for you! Take care. 👌🪴🥰
Thank you so very much! I appreciate you watching and hope you will be able to snag a plant from the shop soon :).
💚 💚 💚 WHOA! That’s alot of Hoya. Your channel is goals.😂 I can’t wait to see some of those pop up in your shop and hope I can make it before they’re all gone, lol. I got my Panda and Passifolia from you last week and they are just perfect. I was nervous since I didn’t get a heat pack but I figured it’s just from CO to Vegas. It did take 5 days but whew, they made it. Tysm 🤗
It is a lot LOL. But somehow manageable for me. I hope to get a lot of those listed in the shop this year :). That's excellent that the plants arrived safely. I had so many delayed packages last week. Probably the worst ever but as far as I know everything survived :). Thanks for the order!!!!!
Oh my goodness, that grow tent looks like a little slice of heaven! I am also in awe of all the patterns you have combined in your home. Every inch looks like a magazine layout!
Aww...thank you so much!!!! So sweet of you to say :).
Thanks Gena for this fantastic video; I’ve been having an obsession with Hoya. I’m glad you’ll be doing a video on propagating hoya; I’m looking forward to it. Have a great week 😊 ….Roz
Thanks Roz!!!! My obsession with Hoya is cyclical LOL. Right now I'm pretty obsessed :). I'm planning to film a propagation video tomorrow for Sunday. I have so much I need to propagate for the shop. Thank you!!! You too :).
I don't think I ever saw the Amarillo. Did I miss it? I was excited to see the parent plant to my new baby. I'm so excited ✨🧚🏻♀️🌿
Hi, Tina!!! I'm pretty sure I showed it. I remember looking at it while making the video...hopefully I didn't skip over it :).
@ThePinkTrellis ok I may have to watch again 🤣
Hi Gena, thank you for doing one of my favorite type of videos. Your Hoyas are doing absolutely amazing. I have about 100 inside my house and the other 50 or so are in the greenhouse 🤦🏻♀️. I don’t think I’ve ever counted. I can’t wait to see what I’m able to snatch from your shop. I wish you a wonderful week. Much ❤ and success
Hi, Sylvia!!!! Ohhhh....you have a BIG collection!!!! I bet it's beautiful!!!! Thank you and I wish you a wonderful week as well :).
Hi there…….new follower here! Kindly share what kind of clips you are using to hang those cups in the grids. Thanks
Hi! Thanks for joining 😊. Here’s the Amazon link for those clips: amzn.to/3BWb9hz
Hello!!!! Thank you so much!!!! I just ordered a small cutting of the lacunosa variegated...looking forward to giving that one a try :). I hope one day you will get a grow tent. I really enjoy the two that I have. Big WARM hugs sent your way. I know we are in for some cold temperatures next week and I'm not looking forward to that. Looking forward to a spring warm up. Have a great week!!!!
@@ThePinkTrellisdankjewel lieverd ❤
💚Love your videos Gena 💚
Thank you so much!!!! I appreciate your kind words :).
The Macgillivray likes to be drier in the fall and winter, and more moist in spring and summer. The leaves on my plant are all larger than your largest leaf. I have it in a smaller 3 inch self-watering pot. The vines are all 4 feet plus long.
Hopefully mine will start shaping up and stop throwing a fit LOL. That's a plant goal for the new year. Get it looking as nice as yours :). Thanks for the tips!!!!
Did you have a Hoya hellwigiana? It sun stresses beautifully. Did I miss that? I need to rewatch 😊 🌿
I don't have one. I looked it up and it does sun stress incredibly. I love the super rich dark burgundy shade it takes on! Thanks for watching :).
Love love the collection tour!! Eager to watch the propagation videos 💚
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it. Those propagation videos will be coming up soon!!! I have so much to do for the shop :).
Hi Gena! Love, love, love your Hoya collection! Thanks for sharing it with us - I know it was a ton of work to make this video. 💚
Hi, Cheryl!!!! Thank you so much!!! It does take time but I really wanted to make this one to document what I have and see how many different types I have as well. It was fun to make :). Thanks for watching!!!!
What is the big leaved one with round dark splashy leaves? Is that your Aceh something or other? It looks similar to the obovata splash. I love big splashy leaves!💚
I have a couple of big roundish leaved ones. It could be the Sarawak? Or possibly the Michele Splash? The Aceh variety I have has more narrow/pointy leaves. The macrophylla red is also kind of roundish. Those are the big ones that I can think of :). Thank you!!!
😊🥰
Thank you :)
Love your Hoyas especially the silver Wilbur graves and the other one that is silver and starts with a c I think.
Thank you!!! Probably the coriaceae...it's a stunner. I adore that one :).
How many years have you been growing your hoyas? I can tell that they're well established❤❤
My oldest in this collection is from 2020. But years prior I've had them, I just no longer have those plants due to moving and not bringing all of my plants with me, or purging some. My oldest plants in this video are 4 years old...actually almost 5 years old now this spring.
Thank you for starting off the new year with a hoya collection tour! Really enjoyed seeing all of your hoyas 💚
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!!! Thank you :).
Wow, what a fabulous collection. I also love the mint leafed hoyas. How beatiful. I wish I had room for all those babies. I will live vicariously through you and your collection 😂. A question for you - would you ever consider selling unrooted cuttings?? I have put quite a few of my hoya in leca and they seem to acclimate better for me when I start them in water or fluval has worked well too. You have a great day. Loved the video. You have expanded my wish list ❤❤
Thank you so much! I totally could do fresh cuttings. That's how I purchase a lot for my collection. Although I put my cuttings in soil when I get them. But I like getting them small like that and growing them out myself. It also reduces the risk of pests which is a good thing for me :). Which Hoya are you interested in?
@@ThePinkTrellisoh my goodness. I rewatched the video. I wrote down 26 must have hoya (eventually). A suggestion to add to your shop is a mystery fresh cuttings of 3 different small leafed hoyas, medium and large. I would definitely buy. I love the silver hoyas, sigillatis, silver lime, luisa's silver and moonlight and of course more. If you are seriously interested let me know. I can email you if you are.
🌱💚 l love the Hoya tour, looking forward to seeing the caudex plants.
Thanks Paul!!!! The nice thing is they really aren't that expensive. I got 4 from one shop. I hope they do well!!! I'll show you guys them soon.
💚💚💚💚💚💚
Thank you :)
That was great. It sure seemed like there was way more than 132. I tried counting my plants and just got my living room dining room and sun porch done and was up to 105. Then I gave up. There are so many in my studio jungle cactus room and hoya bathroom I could not face dealing with it. And I also did not count propagations. I think I want to get some more hoyas and Rhipsalis but I also think I need to see how the ones I already have will grow out.
Thanks Chris! I know you have a LOT too :). I purchased a few more Hoya oops LOL. We have a window of decent temps this coming week...not that cold weather ever really stops me from ordering plants. I feel like I purchase a lot of Hoyas this time of year for whatever reason. I guess I get the Hoya bug this time of year. And in the summer too LOL. I go in cycles. You should do a Hoya collection tour video and then I'll count them up for you :).
@@ThePinkTrellis Months ago I counted 64 hoya. Most in my master bath. I know I bight a few more and lost a few. I did not keep very good track . Ok If I do a hoya tour I will be happy to let you count them for me. 😂
Not normal for the MacGillvaray spelling lol
I'm pretty certain it's just an acclimation thing. It seems the newest growth is sizing up so I think it just had a big adjustment. Hehehe...that's a tough one to spell :).
So right hoya don't need to dry out completely!!
Yep!!! :)
Your collection is amazing! As a fellow vintage and plant lover it’s always a treat seeing your collection and bits of your home
Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoy it :)
Love all your Hoya or is plural Hoyas lol I think I have a Hoya you don't have a Hoya Fungi hahaha, Have a great week Gena xox🌿💚
Thanks Duncan!!! I say Hoya and Hoyas...I think either is fine :). And here's me sticking my tongue out at you and your fungii comment :P.....LOLOLOL. It's supposed to be a fungii splash but who knows. The shop I got it from on Etsy is no longer in business. Thank you!!!! You have a fantastically, wonderful, splendiferous week too!!! xoxoxo
I think your McGillivrayi might have a type of broad mite, typical signs is that the new growth either dies back or is small and misshapen. Rare with hoya in my experience but worth treating for just in case 🙂 Love your channel and seeing ll your hoyas!
Hi!!! I suppose it's possible. I have looked at it under magnification and never seen any pests. I'm leaning more toward it was early growth from when I first got it and it had a hard time adjusting to my grow tent. The newest leaves coming out are normal shaped. I'll just have to keep an eye on it. Thanks for the suggestion :). And thanks for being here!!!!! Have a great new week!!!
I have been waiting and waiting for this video. Even Jen has a wish list now LOL I really thought you'd have closer to 200 also. Jen says I have between 50 and 60 Hoya we will let you know. We are both going to have to get the egg beater Blossom plant when you put it in your shop. After four years, my Hoya kerrii variegata has got a peduncle neither one of us can wait. We got the candy stripe begonia in the mail yesterday and it is even more beautiful than we thought it would be. It's in with my propagations right now before it goes into the cabinet. Looking around the room it is surprising that so many of my plants either came from you or are here because of you. We will see when we count. My Hoya krohniana black finally has a peduncle Jen is excited about more propagation videos and I'm looking forward to them myself.💚💚💚
Hi you two!!!! hahahah...love that Jen has a wish list now too :). I will eventually have to propagate the decipulae (egg beater plant) but I have been putting it off. I just enjoy those blooms so much. But eventually it's going to have to be done. I'm so glad the candy stripe arrived safely. So many of my packages shipped this last week were delayed. I think the winter storm and then a postal holiday on Thursday really screwed things up! I'm excited for you and your peduncles. I have to warn you...Hoya kerrii blooms are super MESSY. They drip like crazy and it's a dark colored sap. Don't have anything nice underneath it LOL. I have so much propagating to do so those videos will be coming up soon :). Thanks Lynn!!! Have a great new week :).
Hoyas are my all time favorite love them❤❤❤
They are amazing :).
💚💚💚💚
I love the round shape of your Hoya Kerrii.
Thank you :).
I just love Scindapsus plants, i have a differen type, have to get the name right 😅😅😅
I love them too! 💚 The colors, the texture of the leaves. They are just gorgeous!
I really enjoy plant-related thrifting. You really inspired me, and I have found some really nice things for my plants. :) Michele
Wonderful!!! I really enjoy the hunt for unique planty related things. Thank you, Michele :).
For the more succulent leaved Hoyas, the full plant can be rerooted if you have good growing conditions, like a light, warm and humid spot (I have done it with Hoya kerii and Hoya carnosa Krimson Princess in room conditions and with Hoya heushkeliana variegated, Hoya krohniana silver and Hoya wayettii variegated in a tent after doing a root mealy treatment a bit too agressively and basically all the roots died back, hardly lost any leaves) It does take a while and it is more risky than cutting up the plant… but it can definitely be done The propagation is safer in most circumstances Personally, what I would do with harder to get plants… is try and reroot most of the plant as a whole.. and take maybe a few cuttings as a backup just to be safe If you like rehoming/selling plants… chopping up might be a lot of fun, I don’t like having lots of the same plant to find new homes for 😅
Hi! Oh yes....good lighting, warm and humid location. I have a grow tent where I do this daily for my plant shop thepinktrellis.com :) I'm a chop the whole thing up gal these days and the propagations go in the shop! Thanks for sharing what you do!!!!
Hi Gena, thank you so much for this fantastic and informative video. I am fairly new to hoya collecting. Absolutely love your idea of putting them in little plastic cups. I am in Australia so everything is massively more expensive here. I had a look on Amazon Australia for Pon and for an 18 L bag it is AU$118 which is about US$87 🙈🙈🙈🙈. Then I looked for the ingredients you used to make your own item was almost as expensive as the made up Pon. Never the voice I am going to buy some and give this a try. Thank you again. I really appreciate it ❤❤❤ Cheers Leah
Hi, Leah! The price has gone up considerably on pon and the items to DIY. Since making this video I have learned that I do prefer using a very airy soil mix with my Hoyas. I haven't lost any Hoyas in pon though so it does work very well. I just prefer soil :). I'm so glad this video was helpful and welcome to the wonderful world of Hoya!!!! I have a Hoya collection video coming out tomorrow (Sunday) morning where I'll show about 132 different Hoya in my collection! Thank you!!!!
@ Hi Gena, thanks so much for taking the time to respond to my message. That’s so interesting about the price in the US, and your preference for soil. I use a mix I make up of orchid potting mix, perlite and a bit of good quality potting mix and orchid specific Osmocote. Oh I’m so looking forward to your hoya video 🩷🩷🩷 I’m sure there will be some serious hoya envy 😜😂🩷 Cheers Leah
@ sounds like a nice soil mix!
I love the concept of giving the cookie recipe on the end of plant video! thank you very much <3
Thank you! I thought it was fun 😊.
Great video Gena, I loved the baking part. You and your husband are too cute!! The Hoya countdown was pretty cool too.. my fav was the Walliniana. Merry Christmas
Thank you so much!!! Happy New Year!!!
