I saw him in concert when I was 22 yrs old... a few years before he was killed. I can TELL you what the audience was doing... we were just standing there slack-jawed in amazement.... completely mesmerized by what we were seeing. Kinda like a stunned silence or a trance. It was unbelievable.
Got to see him live as well. It was like being plugged in to a 50,000 kilowatt circuit for 2 hours. You couldn't move and felt the electricity flowing through your body for hours afterwards. So greatly missed. RIP to the GOAT...SRV!
Truth. First SRV song I heard, I didn't move and just stared at the screen trying to process what I was witnessing. The moment the song was over my first thought was, "Welp, guess I'm learning to play the guitar now, where's the nearest music shop!"
Also remember that this was recorded for television. The audience is warned before hand that if they leave their seats while the performer is playing/singing for any reason, they'll be escorted out of the venue and not allowed back in. There wasn't anybody willing to be booted out of an SRV gig.
Absolutely. When Clapton was in his real prime, noone would say a word. Saw eric many times. Sadly I didn't get to see srv That makes me so sad. Gone so young.
John English yep. Hopefully a concert where SRV and Hendrix play together, and we are all there to witness it. Maybe playing voodo child or little wing together.
@@ryanelison4539 🤠Abso-freakin'-lutley!!! Wouldn't that be grand!!! 🎸🎸🎸 (Let's throw Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, etc...in there as well for good measure!!!) 🎙🎤🎼🎵🎶

NO Tatts. I know a guy who whos was at the El Mocambo concert. He said the audience was in a trance - they had no idea what they were in for - only that he was a guitar slinger for Bowie. He said he could not sleep fo 2 days
This is my fave SRV Voodoo Chile performance and I'm mesmerized every time I see it. Not all concerts are for dancing, especially when you are fortunate enough to see someone this great perform live and in person. He's amazing to watch.
Hey dude, i loved seeing how FLABERGASTED you got when you realized you were witnessing a virtuoso, and you been missin it all these years! . RIP SRV.. Takin his place in God's House band, he is. . Peace!
I'm from Austin, Texas 🇨🇱 and started going to clubs to see Stevie in 1975.Last time I saw him was 1985 on the Texas 🇨🇱 Flood tour. He hypnotizes you when you see him live!😲 You just stand there watching his fingers in total amazement!😲🤯 RIP Stevie and thank you for the music you left us.😢💔🇨🇱✌️❤️
The audience is not up dancing because they are respectful. They're giving these artists (remember, besides Stevie are Tommy and Chris - Double Trouble) the attention they deserve. Would you want to miss any of those AMAZING guitar licks?!!!!
That was austin city limits show back in the day. I'm 56 got to see Stevie quite a few times...kicked ass EVERYTIME!!! JIMI HENDRIX was his idol that's why he did this song. Glad to have you aboard brother!!!!
I saw Stevie play twice back in the day, and it was awesome and the audience was the same - the audience is not being disrespectful they are simply not wanting to miss a bit of his guitar work, everyone including other guitar players are watching and studying his amazing work. They come to hear his playing, in fact its the opposite they are paying him respect and homage, thats how I felt as well didnt want to miss a note-!!
SRV did not "play" the guitar. He owned it, tortured it, whispered to it, commanded the guitar. Watching him play was so hypnotic! RIP brother, you were the GOAT!

Stevie’s brother, Jimmie Vaughan, wrote the song “Six Strings Down” about his brother’s death in Alpine Valley on his album, “Strange Pleasure.” The line goes, “Heaven done called another blues-stringer back home.”
Check out life without you or Ain’t gonna give up on love both live at the Capital Theater or Tin Pan Alley with Johnny Copeland either one you will enjoy either one you choice there is no bad Stevie video.
Not every concert was chill like that but when you had a musician performing solos at that level you gave them that same level of respect that you would at a classical pianist concert. It's pretty amazing considering most folks there are high as a kite. Many concerts back when were more about having an experience than crowd participation and being active.... Pink Floyd and others come to mind. Great reaction!

The audience often reacts this way because theyre transfixed on his guitar work, watching SRV is all about his amazing guitar work and ya dont want to miss a lick, I saw him twice and it was the same both times but the applause at the end was huge
Hendrix started a movement but SRV brought it to church. One of the few covers that far exceeds the original. I am always in awe with how relaxed SRV is while playing. His sense of rhythm gives his Blues sound some Soul IMO.
