    In fairness, I'd be a bit miserable too if I was running up a mountain!

    I was faced by the same comment on a local ride, on my return route (on a cycle path) from some local trails, I encounter an oldish couple, I made them aware that I was passing 3 times, I had no reaction from them, so I passed them slowly on the left, well the lady (used lightly), shouted ****ing bikes. I stopped an had a toe to toe, explained to her it was a dual purpose path for both cyclists and pedestrians...…..more potty mouth language from the so called lady, I told her to turn her hearing aid up ,and she might of been aware of my intensions to pass, and to pay more notice of her surrounding's and carried on...… some people eh!!!!
    Anyway, it didn't spoil my day, great video again Andrew.

    Done Ben vorlich on Sunday spoke to loads of walkers who were brand new and said fair play for pushing a bike to the top only one solo lady from south of the border stopped me and asked why I had took a bike on to the hill I told her it was a hobby I bike on mountains she told me it was stupid think everyone has their own opinions but sometimes they should keep them to themselves

    Being a Walker at heart I've always believed the wilderness is for Everyone. I'm happy to hold a gate for 4 wheel drive groups, motor bikes and mountain bikers. Ramblers groups maybe not!! I've been stuck at Stiles and gates while large groups pass without one person letting me through first. Its there to share, people need to get used to it. Worst thing is picking the right side to go to when you get the shout from behind. Keep riding.

      I’ve found that generally stereotypes don’t really hold up in the hills, you get good and bad people irrespective of the activity. That being said, there are more walkers in the hills than any other sport, so the chances of meeting a grumpy one are higher.

    Shame to hear such negativity from other path users, are they not aware of SOAC? An observation I've made over the years is that the vast majority of hill erosion and path braiding is due to walkers not sticking to the path because they want to walk on the soft vegetation. This is especially noticeable on long distance routes like the WHW when they're getting tired feet. I cycled the WHW a couple of years back and was staggered at how many walkers were not on the path and they weren't just making way for me either. Same on Conic Hill the other day not one walker on the path.

    It looked to me like it was one or both of the two women running up the mountain who were whining about you being there on bikes. They didn't look like stuffy old hikers, which suprised me, as it's usually those types who don't like bikes, not the more active sportspeople. Fair play for taking it as well as you did - I'd have struggled to hold my temper. That kind of illogical, mindless ignorance and sense of entitlement winds me up!

    • @McTrailRider
      @McTrailRider  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was just the one women shouting at us. I don’t get it either, she clearly isn’t well informed on our access code.
      Don’t be fooled though, every bone in my body wanted to stop and confront her about it. The two women that were in our group actually did stop to speak to her but soon realised that she could not be reasoned with.
      I very rarely come across people like that though, and was by far the most vocal.

      Riding is getting a bit dodgy here in the Peak just now.. Lot of trail sabotage going on, people throwing nails down and sticks with nails sticking up, blocking the trails with stone walls, wood.. Had a nail go in my rear tyre the other day, dented my rim.. 😡

    The woman on Meall a' Buchaille clearly doesn't understand access rules in Scotland. However, I'm not sure there was just one blind corner on the Larig Ghru descent. I'm surprised the speed you all went at , especially considering that you nearly wiped out some walkers right at the start. Remember its "responsible access". The rules can and do change. Please be careful not to give all mountain bikers a bad name.

      @@McTrailRider Please don't take my comments personally. I'm a forthright old git. Also, the older I get, the faster I'm not - so I'm also probably slightly bitter! But be aware these incidents are not unfortunate as you state - I've seen this more than once or twice in my experience and had my own incidents. It's surprising how well walkers can conceal themselves, particularly if they have a flask of tea. In this regard I don't share your confidence about continuous 20ft visibility, although most of the trail was fine. Love your videos btw, particularly the in flight commentary. Keep going!

    While the vocal lady was obviously misinformed, I have noticed you rarely slow down for hikers in your videos. In fact, in this video, you only slow down when slamming into the group of men walking up the trail. Remember it is "responsible access" us bikers have here in Scotland especially when meeting other users like hikers and horse riders.

    • @MTBScotland
      @MTBScotland 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      every time I've ridden with Andrew he has been nothing short of polite and aware of other people on the trails (riders included). When you ride on the road do you slow down for everyone that is on the pavment a few feet away?
