- I show how to fix the lockout on your SR Suntour forks. These instructions are for Suntour forks with a blue speed lock lever (hydraulic lock-out). These are the instructions Suntour has on their site to adjust your lockout when your lockout is not working. If these instructions do not fix your lockout, it's possible your lockout cartridge is damaged or broken. I have seen some replacement lockout cartridges available online. You will have to determine what type your fork needs. Not sure if a non-working lockout cartridge can be repaired. If I get one, I may give it a shot. The forks in the video are Suntour XCR forks.

You're a lifesaver. I was about to contact the vendor for selling me a fork with a broken lockout and after watching the video fixed it in two minutes :D.
Is the blue lever part in 2 pieces ? I have XCR but the lever looks different to that

HELP ME OUT ! I have a cube hardtail. And the lock(red dot) and unlock(green lock) fork indicator for the fork. I noticed that my bike mechanic put the cap in the wrong way bc when i lock it it is green and when i unlock it it is red. Can i fix this by just removing and puttin the cap back on
I've been repairing bikes since I was a child. No-one taught me, and over time, mainly through trial and error, II earned a reputation for being able to fix almost anything. I don't drive because of my (adult) ADD, so have cycled almost everywhere in my life. Consequently I consider myself something of an expert. Not being arrogant or 'owt like that. It's just accrued knowledge over the last 45 years (I'm 51 now but like I said, been repairing bikes since a child).
But dang it, this bloke always, and I mean *always* teaches me something I didn't know before. Brilliant.
So thanks RJ, and I really mean that. I can imagine that something that took just a minute or so to fix in reality then becomes an hour or two when you add in setting up the camera, various tripod positioning, working the camera itself, all the way through to editing the video and posting it in here for us all to watch, be entertained by and learn something from. Nice one, thank you. 😊
Thanks! Yeah, shooting video adds a lot of time. Reshooting a single shot over and over, just because I didn't like it, or flub what I was saying. In this video I had it shot, was editing it, and didn't like one shot, so went back and reshot it.

Thanks RJ you really saved me a few years back I moved to the Netherlands and needed to earn extra money for my family and fixing bikes to sell really saved me as I knew nothing about bikes.

I'm glad that thru your video, you are able to help a lot of people. I also have the same issue with my suntour fork but unsuccessful so far to fix it.
I had a hard bump with a rock on a rough road and since then, the lock out no longer works.
When I watch this video, I though this would be the solution but no! the nut at the top could not be tightened, it just turn and turn.

This was exactly what I was looking for! Cap fell off on a ride and when I tried to put it back on the lockout wasn’t working at all, needed a lot of tightening and now it’s perfect again. Thank you 👌

Thanks for the great video! The bike store said they couldn‘t repair it because it was very rusty and they told me to by a new one. I just sprayed some WD40 and I could repair it at home. Now it works perfectly fine :)
I have this fork. I have this problem. I couldn't work out what was wrong and was going to buy a new fork. Your video popped up. I watched it. I still have this fork but I no longer have this problem!

Thank you for this video I was able to repair my folks that were lock in a few minutes. Saving me money for replacing forks as the bike mechanic recommended.
Dude thank you!!! My Raidon fork started making weird noises yesterday (unbearable to ride with) every time I compressed or released the fork. It was like a clicking / creaking with a bit of play and sounded like something needed to be oiled. I contacted suntour and was told the noise was normal and to keep riding. Naturally I took the whole fork apart (which I needed to do anyway to increase travel to 120mm). I put the fork back together and still had the same noise! It was so bad that I really contemplated not being able to ride with this fork and if I should look for another one. After watching every video online about this fork I came across yours. Sure enough the Allan key bolt under the lockout wheel was completely loose and there was grease all over. I tightened it and the noise went away. Thank you!!!!
I've just bought a new Whisper electric bike and lockout has stopped working just days after purchase. Blue lever flicks back and forth like it's not doing anything, very loose. Hoping this easy fix solves it as it'll be a trip to the bike shop later today.
You are a life saver - I somehow lost the lockout lever and my forks have been stuck on no bounce - managed to sort it - Thankyou.
Absolutely unblieable from bikeguy, I was just started the maintenance on this very same fork with my exact intention to service the lockout. Just went to turn on your channel and here you go... absolutely amazing and thanks again for your good work.
the blue lever is hard to remove ...while using a plastic thingy and also tried with screwdriver ..the lever almost got cracked and broken trying to remove it ..any other ways to remove it sir?

Thanks for the video! Saved me some time and money. Thought I would have to buy a new lockout lever. Now I know I can just use a 4mm allen wrench (shown at 1:00). No need to purchase a new lever just to have it fall off again.

What do I do if the 4mm is tightened (in lock out position) and it still does not lock? what is broken?
This allowed me to unlock and get the cartridge back into fork, mine is a simpler cap which is annoying and it just button fits to allen head...at least I will leave it in the unlocked position now till U upgrade the forks.

I dont even have suntour forks but this vid helped me fix my trek bike forks

Fantastic thanks; fixed my lockout. Spindle was tricky to get out, as had rusted in. But coaxed out after few drops of light oil.

Nice fix but should do a vid on fixing preloaded forks because they are common and sometimes they are real hard to turn but I know how to fix that but you can help the others who don't know how to do it out nice rj

Thanks for posting RJ. I think I may have made an expensive mistake. I think I may have over tightened the interior 4m bolt because now it just turns freely in either direction and there’s no travel at all in the fork. Any advice?
While I was riding my hard tale the front suspension got stuck so I took it to my local bike shop. The man who waited on me told me it couldn’t be fix and to replace it would be $190 to 250 depending on the fork plus labor. No way Would I spend the much on a $700 bike. Fortunately I came across your video and it took me less than five minutes to fix my fork. Thanks

But unfortunately, I think the issue is with the cartridge inside. Let me give it another shot to see if this works. Else, chuck it. The suspension anyway works. It's only the lockout that is not working

I did exactly what the video said, but still the broken lockout (and harder to turn blue knob). Is the cartridge broken?
Good info for the people who need it. For most of my life, "bike" was what I called my motorcycle. Now I'm back to using a bicycle as my primary transportation, in a developing country where the roads vary from pretty decent to mostly imaginary. My bike doesn't have a suspension. That may change.
I would love to get another motorcycles. I had dirt bikes when I was a kid.
@@RJTheBikeGuy My first motorcycles were worn out small bore street bikes that came home in multiple boxes. I had to put them together before I could take them out in the dirt and pound them to pieces again. I sold my last motorcycle when cell phones got popular. The traffic around me just wasn't paying attention.
Yeah, one of my motorcycles came as a couple boxes of parts. Didn't even know if it was a complete bike, or parts from multiple bikes or what. Turned out to be most of one bike. Bought a few parts and had it together. Fun.

Thanks for the video! I have the same shock but there doesn't seem to be anything the 4mm allen key attaches to when I insert it. The fork is completely locked out and I can't unlock it.
I have been looking for a guide like this for a long time.
The bike I am currently prepping is missing the right cap of the XCR fork and what may have been underneath it. Both the 5mm and 4mm Allen screws can be tightened clockwise without stopping. Since I got the bike the way it is now, I don't know if the fork is locked out or just has rough suspension. 🤷♂
I don't know what to do.

Hi all. My suspension won’t lock. Have taken it all apart and the only thing I can assume is the canister is shot. I’m quite new to this so is that a thing?
