When trees become friends : Woodland Photography in the Fens

- I often refer to the trees in my local Fen woodland as characters, so I thought I would introduce you to a few of them. Was lucky to get a nice couple of hours of fog to show them off too

A new Shimoda V2 25L or 30L by the look Sir. I have the 25L in black & the best backpack I have ever owned. You can actually get the rain cover on over bag & tripod attached, win, win & the rain cover has loops to fit through the waist belt so it can't blow off. No more wet bag. Hurray.
Great images & a wide smile to boot. All we had here from Wed- Sun was cloudless blue dam skies & I had a few days off. Errrrrrrr. No Mothers day fog for us. Bring on the fog we say!
Yes Shimoda Explore, new one. Getting on well with it so far, 30l so perfect for my type of photography/exploring. Kept the messenger for summer trips and the Osprey for hikes (every now and again!) Thanks Nicky - hope you’re well

Great look at your favourite location and i can see why it is. Some lovely images there Jamie and great conditions . The Jester at 5:30 is a fantastic image , looks great in the fog, also liked the image at 9:57 . Really enjoyable watch that , hope your keeping well.

It’s my favourite place Neil, and lucky to have it on my doorstep. It’s interesting, I often sit in envy of the stunning mountains and Fells that some of my friends have on their doorstep but I should be thankful for what I have really!

That first tree reminds me of one of those inflatable “men” you see flailing around (usually at garages) advertising whatever, with air being blown up each trouser legs :- ) - great video - thanks - Peter
I know exactly what you mean Peter!! It does! In fact the position of it to greet people as they walk in it could well be trying to sell something!
Without the leaves you can really see the characters in the trees! I think my favourite is the large birch at the bottom of middle covert - I call that one the elephant because of the sawn off branch at the bottom looking a bit like a trunk.
Absolutely. I think I know the one you mean, on the main path, near a Scots pine?
@@JamieOverland It's on the southern perimeter path near the railway line in a clearing - just checked your website and you have nice image of it there - "Birch Fountain"!

@@JamieOverland Yeah we did, I'd just set up to grab a quick shot of the ballerinas - they definitely needed more fog though!

Jamie - I loved this video - was fortunate to be able to pop into Holme Fen yesterday on route to a customer in Cambridge & as luck had it had lovely misty conditions (for a change) & thks to your excellent vlog was able to capture some of the many 'gems' of the wood - so thank you for that. In fact I was re-watching this vlog whilst parked in the layby waiting for it to get light... You are so true - the wood/ shapes etc. come alive with a bit of mist. thks.
Excellent John! We’ve had some lovely foggy mornings this week which have been very frustrating given I have been working! Sod’s Law that the conditions don’t appear in the forecast for the weekend!! Look forward to seeing your shots somewhere on social media!

Haha, I was literally thinking Rob just before you said it! Honestly, what a brilliant collection of images! I think my fave is between the first pines image and the last one with the colour so perfectly composed around the edges of the image. Great stuff mate!

I've not got a favourite tree although I've got a favourite copse on the ridgeline of a hill that looks fantastic from all angles even from miles away. I get the Jester (favourite Danny Kay movie) but I think Kink looks more like The Grinch. If only it was misty on a regular basis, I've got a shot list as long as the Jester's arms.
Now when you refer to the Grinch I immediately think of James Burns rather than a shapely silver birch! Mind you this birch has claws so there’s similarities 😁
