Sweetie, Daffodil, and Iris Bear Play

Sweetie, Daffodil, and Iris are 17-month-old female black bear yearlings. They’re residing in a Wild Enclosure at Appalachian Bear Rescue until they’re returned to the wild later this summer. In the wild, bears their age would be living alone. Our three yearlings have learned to coexist within the confines of the Wild Enclosure. When they’re released, they’ll revert to living a mostly solitary life.
At present, we have 8 cubs of the year and three yearlings in residence at Appalachian Bear Rescue. You can follow their journey back to the wild on our Facebook page.
Appalachian Bear Rescue (ABR), founded in 1996, is located just outside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Townsend, Tennessee. It is a rehabilitation center for orphaned and injured black bear cubs, two years of age or younger, with the goal to release them back to the wild as soon as possible.
