Hey Emerald, I think I discovered ACG back in late 2015 and he had way less subs then. People are starting to catch on. I've seen his audience grow over time and it couldn't have happened to a better channel/person than ACG. I've been a fan ever since I joined and am glad to see ACG's sub base grow.

Most honest and in-depth review I've watched so far. While I don't agree with a few of the points you've made, I am definitely subscribing to watch future reviews before I purchase any games. Reviewers that's are passionate and professional seem to be few and far between.

ACG As you should, you pick the game apart with a finite eye and scrutinized it much more than I will on my play through. I hadn't noticed the difference in inflection between sentences when I played the 10 hour pre-release, but I may have not delved deep enough into the dialogue options to notice the differences.
I appreciate his perspective more so than most other reviewers. He doesn't compare games to the "golden children" of their genre (Witcher 3 in this case), and his opinion seems unadulterated by remarks I hear often in reviews like " Well I'm here for the story so their faces don't matter" or "It's better than ME3, so that's all that matters." I agree it is sub-par for what a 2017 AAA title should look like, but that doesn't mean it can't be enjoyable as well. Unfortunately it doesn't come out for another 6 hours for me :/

Yeah well... ACG gave Ghost Recon Wildlands a "deep deep sale" if I remember correctly and I absolutely love that game. I'm not saying he was wrong on that game, but personal preference is something you have to consider when it comes to reviews.
On topic: I think everyone that previewed- or reviewed Mass Effect that I've seen came to pretty much to the same conclusion, so the first signs are not that great; which is a shame. I was looking forward to it for a long time... Damn it.
He's the best there is man! He gave a good reason to purchase Alien Isolation and I've never regretted it! Only for my nightmares though xD.
Well all the pro's and cons he listed were fair points. It is his opinion to wait for fixes/patches/buy later. It's still up to you to decide if the pro's are more important to you than the cons. imho the game could have used a month or two more polishing, but since i've got nothing else im playing the next few weeks, i'm sure it'll keep me busy.

Another case of Developers desecrating a great formula in favour of fast combat to appeal to a larger audience and adding more micromanagement to chew up time. Mass effects strength was always the Story itself and the characters you were so invested in. Facial animations have always been on point and Ground breaking. The bugs were secondary to the immersion this once great game had.
Dragon age inquisition absolutely dropped the ball for me compared to the previous titles and this (Mass Effect) tragically has gone the same path.
Big thumbs down to the directors of this latest iteration for getting it so wrong. The blame rests squarely on Bioware's shoulders integrity should have been your first priority.

The combat was great, the problem was nearly everything else. You're right about Dragon Age Inquisition, that's when Bioware started to die. They are now officially dead as a triple A developer as far as I'm concerned. I'll never pay full price for one of their games again.
Another case of EA destroying a developer because, hey lets not finish the game, lets get it out so we can start micro transactions and make some money. What, you want to polish the animations, nah no need, what you have is fine. In fact, just take what you got and run with it, here is your release date. Bioware/Mass Effect fans will gobble it up anyways. Just like Star Wars fans will gobble up whatever we put... Wait what?

God fucking damnit what is Bioware's problem? On top of everything else, they also do the whole DA:I thing of not playing the fucking soundtrack through like 70% of the game? Maybe for some people it's not a big deal, but the music in a game (especially open world/exploration) is so crucial in immersing me and making it memorable.
I mean what would Skellige in TW3 be like without that epic and beautiful soundtrack playing as you make your way through the forests and mountains? It's so stupid and lazy.

Yeah I noticed the lack of music even in the 10hr trial. What a bizarre decisionto exclude it. Did the original ME trilogy Music guy get fired along with the Halo music guy from Bungie? Dont these guys know its not Space Opera without music. How iconic were those cheesy synth tunes from the original trilogy while running round the citadel, or the sweeping orchestral score everytime a ship took off/landed, or shepherd gave a rousing speech, or socked some bad guy in the jaw. Crazy omission.

Pavel Hristov Inquisition you mean? I played it on the Xbone mostly and also a bit on the PS4. Both were the exact same. Just... dead silence with some ambient sounds going on in the background. It's so painfully boring. By the time I got half way through the game I just usually listened to my own music or a podcast while I explored the "open worlds", since the game didn't care to immerse me I didn't even bother to try.

Thanks for saving me some money. I was on the line about it having played the trial. Was almost gonna buy it out of haste. Going to wait for patches/sales now. Subscribed because you and Angry Joe are the only ones that put out (imo) the most well rounded reviews but Joe takes too damn long sometimes (I know it's because he does all those special effects) and doesn't even do a large amount. Keep up the great work. You deserve more than 200k subs.

Lol honestly tho have you ever worked 12 hours in retail or customer service where you talk a ton and at the end of the shift your face literally HURTS. The one line in the whole trial that I can actually relate to.
Well structured videos of reasonable length with considerable effort going into the making, as well as an active effort to respond to any queries, criticisms or complements, no matter how numerous they may be, all that apart from one of the best reviews and narration I have ever witnessed on TH-cam and elsewhere. Persona is a 2016 Game though so.. it doesn't count since it came out in Japan less than a year ago
Zelda BoTW is personally my GoTY right now, but we'll see what other games come out in the meantime

Edit: Just in case anyone else is reading the comments and on the fence... Even as a die hard Mass Effect fan I regret buying this game. Isn't worth sixty dollars. It becomes so boring that it becomes hard to finish it (I stopped playing it) and there is more time in loading screens for side quests than anything as they make you hop from planet to planet for one line of dialogue. Waste of money, time, and the Mass Effect brand.

Bossk749 I would suggest playing it, I played it, and though it has its quirks I still thoroughly enjoyed the game. There are times where I think the writing was good and parts of the game made me laugh. I watched a streamer play it all day today and I enjoyed watching him. It just depends on what you want, Horizon Zero Dawn seems to be a great game, I never played it but it looks amazing. But I'm personally getting ME:A because it was fun for me to play. So take the review into consideration, watch streamers play the game, and try it if you can.
Die hard fans should sure as hell not get it, at least not right away.
Bioware will never bother to improve their development if we aren't prepared as consumers to show with our money that we won't just buy any product they throw at us. This game is clearly half the effort of the old games and that is not good enough for an AAA title. Being a fan doesn't mean you have to blindly buy what they make.
Yes I've been blind because I knew it was a new Mass Effect game and knew I'd buy it and wanted to enjoy learning everything and seeing it all with my own eyes, but I'm also not one to buy dumbly, I just love the series so much I thought it'd be okay, but obviously it's not. I don't have any renting options anywhere near me I always look to see if something new comes along but I can't find anything. This is very concerning, I've had series after series ruined for me, from Halo to Dragon Age everything I've loved has fallen and Ubisoft, EA, Microsoft, etc. just failing and wasting my money over and over is really getting old. The game is actually going to be a gift if I say the word, but I feel bad if it's going to be a dud... =/
I don't want to wait considering how much I love the series, but I honestly need to take a massive step back and see what's happening. Thank you.

Remember how in the original Mass Effect there was this tone of horror and fear? How high and desperate the stakes felt? Remember Dragon Age Origins with it's horror-fantasy mix? Remember how strong the tone of fear and sickness and filth was? Now it's uhhh this looks cool, right? right guys? Bioware is threatening to go full EA-tarded and forget what made them great in the first place.
hell I'd play with the same graphics for me3 if i got a good story and memorable characters. maybe i'm weird, I dunno, but to me the graphics are just like special effects, it's' great but it's not more important than the story and gameplay.
I'm guessing you haven't played this game. It's more mystery than horror this time but like why would a new trilogy have to have the exact same tone as the old one? Trust me this game gets pretty damn dark, you still are choosing to save one or the other, damming entire races to war, betraying party members, watching countless bodies pile up etc

can't remember the last AAA game In the last 10 years i have played that has such large issues with VO and animations. completely ruins the immersion for me as one of the most important aspects of immersing myself in a game is the dialogue. thanks for your time on these videos

Was always planning on at least waiting for a sale on this, but glad to check out this review. And fair point on the fun factor. Just because something can offer a lot of hours of gaming....doesn't mean it's worth getting on release. Those have to be fun hours.

I'd like to add that they removed the narrator from the codex section which was an inmersive feature, took me a while to remember why I use to spend so much time in previous ME titles in the codex. Narrator was why! And the music... they removed it as well, and left some stuff with a few harmonies and rhythms, but not a single melody or emotion was included
So Nier it is, was waiting for the reviews to hit for ME:A, and is not great. I will take the advise and wait for a sale.

It's really sad to see how far EA has let this franchise fall..instead of giving it to Bioware Edmonton (who actually made the trilogy) they gave it to a B tier studio just to make a new Mass Effect game because "there had to be one".
Thanks for the review Karak, but this time (in my case) I already preordered it "because it's Mass Effect game". I have tempered my expectations and my hype has deflated to an all time low, but deep inside I still kinda want to play the game myself.
With that said, I think EA got greedy on this one and it's even more baffling that after 5 years in development Bioware haven't managed to create something better than their previous games or even the ME trilogy like a better character customization creator and facial animations (in DAI).
This is always what I feared it will be..."DAI in space".
PS: Remember when they said side quests will be akin to Witcher 3? How true is that Karak? :P

I'm still gonna buy it, but just because I love RPG's space, aliens and exploration. Ill make it wor despite the glaring issues. But yea, I don't EVER pre-order. Not worth it these days as DEVs and Publishers just cant be trusted (aside from the obvious ones - CD Projekt Red, Rockstar, Arcane Studios, Team Ninja and Square Enix, for me anyways).

I was hopeful. Ignored the negative reviews. After watching rooms full of dead-eyed NPCs move around like puppeted corpses...I returned the game. It reminds me of a 20 dollar independent game. Not a 60 dollar AAA game. The team-mates randomly fight or run. Mission fails because both of them combined can't stop 1/3 of the mobs your character wipes the floor with..and so on. Add to that skin textures that look like everyone just stepped out of a sauna? They had better animation 10 years ago and better fps mechanics since ME2.

P R I don't get it either. Wtf is up with the scenes hat look like their is literally skipping frames and the jerky fast speed body movements and shit. Wtf? I still like the game so far because the other space ship scenes and playing is great so far but damn those dialogue scenes. Clearly they were not done buy the same people.

Ditch Bank Bandits Witcher 3 did it fine in my opinion
CDProjekt Red did a lot of stuff fine, so it's not really saying much. Comparison between sex scenes in the original Mass Effect to all the sequels is more interesting. Whenever devs decide to sabotage their own work for the sake of PG-13, the product seems to suffer. It's the same way with female Ryder being made deliberately ugly, while male Ryder is basically ported from the IRL male model, for the sake of satisfying feminists. Is anyone surprised?

Damn this guy just destroys all other supposed "reviewers". Very little to compare too. Articulate, honest and realistic. ACG should have more subs than the likes of Gamespot, IGN and whatever other pseudo-reviewers out there. Jim Sterling and ACG are the best there is to find on YT. Well in son.

Great review man. I already preordered and preloaded the game for PC. Hoping they fix some issues with patches down the road but I pretty much bought it for multiplayer. ME3 mp was the best part of it in my opinion.
Sad to hear about it's issues, I think I'm going to stick it out though and hope the issues just don't bug me significantly. During the 10 hour trial I wasn't really pulled out by the animations and voice acting as much as others seemed to be. Thanks for the honest review, as always.
