I was introduced to Hugh’s work mainly through my young sons love of superhero’s. He wasn’t really on my personal radar. I then had the privilege of working with Hugh on the movie Chappie. The first day he came into the makeup truck he greeted the team politely and asked us each our names. Bearing in mind there were over 100 crew. He breezed in the following morning, greeting each one of us individually BY NAME! I have loved and admired him ever since. What an inspiration he is! He reminds me that it’s not about what one does but how it makes someone feel which counts. Thanks for the great conversation.
This is a great testament to how important it is to treat everyone with value, especially if you are widely known and respected. Many people secretly (or subconsciously) feel less important than others for any number of reasons. You never know when a kind word or kind gesture of true care will change a life. 😊
"Pay attention to your eulogy more than your resume" was a very striking comment I heard during Peter Attia's podcast w/Hugh Jackman so I couldn't wait to hear more!
I'm just copying the show notes from Tim's website: 07:25 - Hugh and his wife have a tradition of reading books - sometimes to each other - every morning. From whom did this idea originate? 11:44 - What books has Hugh gifted most? 15:22 - What does Hugh’s regular meditation practice look like, and what benefits does he enjoy from it? 9:42 - How does Hugh summon and maintain the emotional and physical energy necessary for performing - particularly when he has to give his all multiple times per week on stage in front of a live audience? 27:34 - As someone who’s performed across countless stage and screen productions, why was Hugh nervous about coming on this podcast? 29:41 - What lessons did Hugh’s father teach him about being an example to others by way of action, making decisions, and always keeping his word? 39:16 - To what does Hugh owe his eloquent (or, as his wife might say, “too verbose”) communication skills? 44:13 - Hugh’s relationship with journalism, journalists, and a newfound love for the work of Ken Burns. 46:28 - Hugh talks about the contract he made with himself at the end of drama school about pursuing acting - and being wary of the word “career” in relation to that pursuit. 51:26 - Some of the best decisions Hugh made in the first years of being an aspiring/working actor. 57:02 - Why does Hugh think he was extended the kindness of auditioning for Sir Trevor Nunn - one of his idols - even though he had no intention of accepting a part in the musical he was directing? 58:52 - How has Hugh learned to trust his intuition - even when it leads him in unexpected directions? 1:06:29 - Can Hugh recall any times when the purpose of a nudge from intuition wasn’t easily fathomed - when the dots didn’t connect in an obvious way, but paid off in a big way when it was heeded? 1:10:57 - Am I talking to Hugh Jackman, or Perfect Tommy? 1:12:16 - Hugh elaborates on one of his daily morning practices - the design of the day - pondering the efficacy of manifestation and how it played into a major career decision. 1:18:33 - Hugh puts discipline in perspective, talks about the importance of incorporating relaxation into physical activity (or possibly __any__ activity) for best results, the types of exercises he’s found to be most effective, and a Viktor Frankl quotation that he finds especially inspiring. 1:27:46 - Hugh is a connoisseur of puzzles and games. So what does he recommend for someone who needs to unwind from taking themselves and their work too seriously? I put this on while I was organizing my inbox and tidying up my study. Ended up dropping everything, listening attentively and taking notes. What a fantastic conversation! I had never paid any close attention to Hugh Jackman. What a humble, spiritual, wise man! I learned a lot (and my to-read list increased quite a bit). Thank you!
"I've always followed my gut on stuff even if it doesn't make sense." Following the path you are shown without asking why or how is incredibly difficult but it will ultimately lead to a greater destination that the universe has planned beyond your comprehension. Synchronicities are everywhere for the guidance. The essence of what he says are universal spiritual truths.
Appreciate that Hugh was very generous & deeply honest about himself, life lessons & his practices. Not enough people are like that & instead put on airs or retreat from sharing important life lessons & best practices that we can all learn from. Good interview!🙂
Love this interview soo much! I had the privilege of seeing Hugh Jackman live two years ago at my acting school in person and can definitely say he has the most amazing energy and presence! He truly is an amazing man with a beautiful outlook on life! 👌🏻🙌🏻
What a kind, brave, compassionate, honest, intuitive and incredibly humble man he's. Thank you so much for this podcast, Tim. It's absolutely brilliant 💜

Hi Tim, I heard this on Google Podcast yesterday while cycling. Absolutely loved it especially on 1. 30MinsMorning reading ritual of Hugh 2. Transcendental meditation 3. Solving puzzles 4. Being humble to everyone 5. Going with gut feel for major decisions in life 6. Not indulging in alcohols or parties right after a long work shift I am gonna try these all, Thanks for having him :)
It was so good to listen to this episode. Sounds like i spent time with two genuinely good people. Hugh Jackman seems to be someone who is doing his best to live an upright life. A fulfilling life. Refreshing.
This was absolutely incredible. I listen to "From Now On" every single day, knowing this is how Hugh thinks and how it synergizes with my perception makes it infinity better, thank you for asking all of these important questions! Especially regarding intuition! Wow!
Wow this interview is amazing. Hugh is amazing and what a mindset. Life goals to be as grounded and aware as this man. Can’t get enough of him. Thanks Tim
What a great listen. The first time I saw you @HughJackman was on the Beauty and the Beast stage in Melbourne as Gaston...what an amazing life you have built with intention and integrity.
No doubt one of the best shows of this brilliant podcast. Tim Ferriss long talks with all these stars always reminds me my grandfather telling stories. Don't stop this long format conversations, because it's when your awesome guests can show their deeper self's. Thank You!
Hugh has learned to hear the music when everyone is uncertain what they are listening to until it’s too late to figure it out. He is engaging in full depth living - from his ability to know who he truly is. Inwardly, he lives and listens to the invisible and unseen real world and then manifests that as true creation. “...and it is good!” ( now I’m going to go buy a puzzle!” 😊
Thanks Tim ! I've heard him before on movie interviews and how especially his meditation helped his focus. He just's get better over time. Favorite is the Prestige.
This is a great listen. I have never met Hugh, but know his brother the barrister well. We played Rugby together and opposed each other in debatse as young guys at uni. I am also friends with the guy that Hugh's family begged to intervene so Hugh would see that acting was a futile and wasted ambition. We all laugh about that. I've learned a lot from this podcast.
Wow!!! You guys are such a great team! Awesome questions...awesome considered and generous answers...I love the depth and time you both took too. I got so much out of this and can relate in so many ways. Isn’t it cool that we have the opportunity to learn from each other in forums like this? Deep gratitude and blessings 🙏🏻🌏🌿
Wow, as an Actress this post touched me profoundly. I feel really inspired and grateful that a talented actor like Hugh Jackman lives the life I am living. He clearly is connected to Infinite Intelligence, loves connection and understands that we are all one. It reassures me that this industry is nothing but plagued with great artists and teachers. Can't wait to dive in deeper and yes why not believe that one day I will work with him!!!🌸🌈🚀
@ashawuaska I had the same feeling! How fun and exciting it is to make a spiritual connection in an unexpected place and medium, right? How cool it is to honor the feeling too. 🥳
Each time Hugh mentioned it , I just kept thinking that Tim should give Hugh some ideas for stopping his restless leg syndrome. Hugh, have you tried B vitamins? Then again, it seems he's already figured out that puzzles stop his restless legs. I also read ( or maybe heard in a TH-cam video) recently that Tim takes metformin for longevity and I find myself wanting to caution him on that. I don't have superior knowledge but I do have an intuition about it based on some personal experience. "If it ain't broke don't fix it." But Tim's a smart guy, and the choice is his.
I listened to the whole interview while driving but I'm sad to see Tim didn't include the name of the book that Hugh recommended in his description notes. If anyone out there can time stamp the part where they discuss it and/or tell me what the title of the book was I'd greatly appreciate it!

Hugh jackman seems he is not only a great actor but a great person as well I've never seen him be rude to anyone.
He sets the bar REALLY high for men everywhere to aspire to!
What a truly decent person.
He's a phenomenal human because he's his best authentic self. Don't aspire to be like him rather aspire to unlock your best authentic self.

Today, among other things, I learnt how humble a man Hugh Jackman is.
Despite being a huge, jacked man
He wouldn’t have made it out of Australia if he wasn’t. 😜
Right?! It’s nice to know really nice because it’s unexpected.
He credits his wife for that.
Humility & vulnerability are rooted in strength.
This is by far the best interview of Hugh Jackman, ever. Thank you Tim!
Hugh is such a class act.
No pun intended
I'm just copying the show notes from Tim's website:

27:34 - As someone who’s performed across countless stage and screen productions, why was Hugh nervous about coming on this podcast?
29:41 - What lessons did Hugh’s father teach him about being an example to others by way of action, making decisions, and always keeping his word?

Furthermore, what is it about puzzles that keeps him occupied all night if he doesn’t remember to set an alarm for himself?

My fave point: greet the janitor; greet the king.
This quote somehow always makes me cringe. I mean, the idea behind is very noble which is to treat everyone with equal respect. The premise, however, is that if you are a janitor, you are inferior and people should greet you with equal respect out of benevolence.
Tanya Y I don’t think it’s about being benevolent, but instead not letting someone’s perceived status influence the way you treat them.
